Question about April 2021 Question

I'm so excited to finally be a DVC owner and ready to book my first reservation!

I will be booking an Aulani reservation for April 2021 using banked 2020 points with a March use year and the only room available for my stay is an ocean view studio (78 points). However, I would like to try to waitlist an Island Gardens view studio (63 points).

If the waitlist comes through, what will happen to the 78 points used to make the original reservation? The DVC website says that the normal cancellation/holding rules will apply as May 1, but I couldn't find any info on what happens before May 1.

Right now, holding penalties are being waived, So, if your waitlist fills and your account returns those 15 points, they will be returned without any penalty.

If you were traveling after May 1st and a waitlist filled within 31 days that was for less, then holding penalties would be applied.
