Probably a dumb question but here goes... When becoming a AAA member,do you have to get insurance through them-car, home, etc.- or can you be a member for the $48 that's shown on their website and still take advantage of the travel and room discounts?

Nope, you don't have to get anything from them except pay the membership fee.

No, insurance is just another offering they have. You can be AAA member with travel/roadside benefits independent of insurance. We did that for 17 years before we picked up their insurance through our agent locally, who was discontinuing our former ins. co. due to other reasons.

Thanks.
If I'm looking on joining just for the travel discounts, does each member of my family have to be a AAA member? Saw something about primary member and associate member on their site.

Is being a AAA member worth it? In terms of disney room discounts?

Just on person needs to be the member. I am the only member, but we get discounts at hotels, etc...

Yes, only one person needs to be a member to get the discounts. But, if you have other drivers in your household, they could not use the towing and roadside service. Just, FYI. I would hate for someone to find this out the hard way.

I'm really just looking into it for the travel/room discounts.

Does towing/roadside assistance come automatic?
That would be nice too!

Yes, it does. There is a mileage limit on how far they will tow - I can't remember on far it it, but far enough to get you somewhere that can help. Can't remember what services it covers, but it certainly is a good for piece of mind when I am driving with the kids.

We pay extra for AAA Plus, which gives you 100 miles towing. Very handy when our transmission went out 130 miles from home. We had to pay for the extra 30 miles, but saved our annual fee easily with the first 100. The shop where we broke down wanted $2000 MORE to fix the transmission than the highly recommended folks at home, plus we would have had additional lodging expenses while we waited for it.

The AAA call center also tried very hard to find us a rental car to drive the rest of us home when only two would fit in the tow truck. They weren't able to find anyone to deliver one to us on a Sunday afternoon, but they definitely made an effort.

I drive ancient cars that I never get more than 100 miles from my favorite mechanic. Well worth the extra money for me.

My grandmother gives my mom, dad and I AAA memberships every year for xmas. She started giving me mine once I started driving. I broke down twice in the car I had from my mom when I was 18 and I had never been so happy to have the AAA card!!! I think it was like 3 miles free and then $1 or 2 each additional? It was so long ago I can't remember.

Also, whenever we are on vacation we stop in any AAA building and get maps and travel books for free! Very helpful.

Before you pay for membership online, call or stop it to your local AAA and ask how much for membership. If I pay for it locally, the membership is only $35 for the year as opposed to the $48 that's listed online. I'm sure it varies by each office, but it can't hurt to ask.

AAA membership costs are determined locally. Here in north NJ I paid $61 for one year. Beside the hotel discounts and auto help, I love the Trip Tiks maps. They're free and the route your entire trip. When you book a WDW package thru AAA there are other perks too - like Diamond Parking lot, a few restaurant discounts and the AAA lounge pass at MK.

Also check with your local chamber of commerce on discount memberships - there was just something today in our local paper about getting a discount membership from them :)

Oooh, forgot about the AAA perks :goodvibes

My DH got his membership yesterday and I was hoping to have it applied to my WDW room reservation. My question is, since the ressie is in my name and the CAA membership is in his name, will I be able to use it or will I have to make a new ressie?

Does anybody know?

Thanx.
