Do the shops in and around florida open on the 4th July or is it a total holiday and everything is shut?

Thought i'd ask all you american's what do the locals do for the day as were not keen on going to a park that day as i've read they are MEGA busy?! What would you suggest - are there any large gatherings/parties/celebrations which happen??

Your help is very much appreciated.

well, I'd have thought that as this board is normally full of helpful suggestions i'd have lots of ideas by now, or at least an answer to the question about shops :(

take it everyone on here does go to the world on 4th july no matter how crowded it gets!

We go to the parks because it is exciting just to be there. I-Drive in Orlando never closes, and there is plenty of shopping, and food to keep you busy all day. Get an I-Trolly pass, and you can ride all day from one end of I-Drive to the other. :thumbsup2 How's the weather over there?
