Quell my fear about FOP and GOTG...

For FOP, if you start to feel sick, close your eyes. I can't do "spinny" things anymore very well. But I have days where FOP doesn't bother me at all and there are days when it does. I gave GotG a try twice. First time I had taken Bonine in the morning, but we didn't end up doing the ride until the evening. I was uncomfortable after the ride, but I recovered shortly after. The second time, I took the Bonine in the mid-morning and we did the ride in the early afternoon. I faired better the second time around.

The ride is smooth, but fast. There is a vortex. The music is loud and if you can distract yourself in the music a bit, I found that helped a little. They really did do a good job with this ride (except some of the pre-view, imo), so I think it is good to experience it once. You will only know how you react to it if you ride it. :)

Also, I kept my eyes closed for most of the first ride. I tried opening them a little more for the second ride. I'm not sure that made much of a difference.

Good luck!
Great points thanks! For me, the music does distract me and that's a good thing. I normally wouldn't ever do Rockin' Roller coaster however the music added another element to distract me and I was enjoying the music without thinking about the speed and inversions. Maybe a Dram before bed and then one in the a.m. prior to both FOP and Guardians, thanks all!

I get motion sickness. I take meclazine at the beginning of every park day just to be safe. It is the inexpensive generic equivalent of Bonine. No sickness, no tiredness. FOP is very easy. GotG has more spinning which can really get me. I took a second pill about an hour beforehand and was fine. I’ve ridden it four times now and really like it.

For reference, I did fine on Harry Potter Gringotts and did fine on Everest and typically ride Big Thunder, Test Track, Millenium Falcon, etc with no worries. I really can't do much 'spinning' on rides and a swing or even teacups would get me, I don't like that back and forth motion. Soarin doesn't bother me either.

Never been on FOP and will be there later this month...I typically take Dramimine in the a.m. and it seems to help even on an airplane. I really want to ride it and understand 'following the leader' helps on the screen along with picking the upper row vs bottom row.

Re: Guardians, huge Marvel fan and I would be remiss if I didn't ride this after seeing the movies and being a massive fan of the Galaxy characters. Any other tips and tricks, what's a good row to pick from?
Sit in the middle of GoG. You'll be fine on FoP. I am inclined to say you prob wouldn't need Dramamine if you don't need it on Soarin. There a few short parts where closing your eyes for a second might be helpful. It is usually the fake drops that cause motion sickness- your brain knows you are not dropping, so it doesn't match what your eyes see. Since you aren't actually dropping, closing your eyes is enough.

For GoG, sit in the middle cars. Also helps to relax and get into the music. For one tiny portion in the beginning same suggestion: close your eyes for a quick second, or just focus on your hands instead of looking up. That way you still see the gist of everything with your peripheral vision.

If you instead decide not to ride either, you can at least go through the queue and pre-show, then use the chicken exit. Both are worth seeing at least once.

My husband gets motion sick, but FOP is his favorite ride. I love it, but I struggle with "falling" sensations. I closed my eyes when FOP got to be too much, let my body reset and then opened them again. Even with that, it was one of my favorite rides on our trip to WDW a year ago.

Thank you for this thread. I feel sick riding Soarin or even just watching the movies in France and Canada. I also felt sick after riding Space Mountain (because it is dark) and Everest (going backwards). This has made my decision that it is best to not go on either of these.

Any thoughts on Rise or Tron? I can't do spinning (like teacups either)? I think I might be fine on Rise (I am just worried about the screens they use) and I am thinking not for Tron (most of it is in the dark).

My advice is try to do them at the end of your day. I realize its really hard to pick your time with those two. However, if you go at the end of your park day at least it won’t ruin your day if you do get sick.
