Thanks for all the festive holiday pictures and links!
Another friend is at Disney right now and sending me beautiful pictures directly. I love them! Glad you had a good birthday, Snowysmom!
We managed to finish our indoor holiday decorating on Friday, and cleaned at the same time, which felt good. DH unexpectedly wound up getting the day off, which was nice. Now, in the coming days, I have to get a card done, wrap, and send a few packages out.
My friends that I grew up with were so good to me this year, I got a big care package from them once a month or so (I guess they had a chat without me just for planning these gifts) with all kinds of fun things to do while I was home not feeling well and lots of feel good blankets and creams, etc. So, as a thank you I got them all a nice pair of “pink” drop earrings so I want to get those out this week. I was a little disappointed in the company I bought them from because part of what I really like about them is their packaging. So even though I bought eight pairs of earrings they squeezed them all into one package instead of sending eight individual boxes. Grrr. I wrote to the company and they sent me seven more velvet bags, but no boxes
saying, essentially, they were doing me a big favor sending the bags “just this once”.
But I got some cute little Santa tins and will wrap each velvet bag in nice paper and put it inside the tin with a double size Ghiardelli caramel chocolate. I sent a couple of things recently at the post office (sunglasses in one pkg and a necklace in another) and each small package cost $8 to send in a padded envelope, so I’m expecting around the same this time. Crazy, but I want to do it. (I might ask to see if there is a cheaper way.)
I visited my elderly friend the other night. Didn’t get home until 1am, we were talking and laughing so long! (Granted, I didn’t get there until 6pm or so.) I brought some corn chowder for us which she enjoyed (and amazingly said she’d never had before) and each a slice of cake (she chose the white on white and I had the white on chocolate). Yum! I also got her a little Christmas candy but not too much, and a decorated evergreen plant which she loved. She looked well but big problem now is that she’s having tremendous pain in her legs and feet. It reminded me of my mother, she used to make the same grimace-y face as she was talking when the pain hit that my friend is doing now. (Maybe neuropathy.) So we brainstormed about pain management and she’s going to talk to her doctor more about it. I wound up ordering her a nice covered water cup (since she doesn’t have one this type) that she can keep by her beside which has her Scottish family crest on it since she’d reminisced quite a bit about her family ancestry. (My DH and kids have a clan, too!) I’ll bring it over before Christmas with a nice meal. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, she’s a great lady who had a tough life and still has it tough, with not a lot of support. She’s been good to me, too, she was my neighbor for 30 yrs before she moved into elderly housing.
Toto is doing ok on his antibiotic tick medicine, an NSAID for pain and glucosamine for arthritis, but he’s been quiet. I mean, he’s game to go out and come out with us and go on walks and all, but at home, he mainly sleeps. He was always so active. He still looks up with me with that loving little face though and he’s so adorable. I’m a little sad he’s aging so. I didn’t mention it in my post about his illness but when the vet was examining him he had quite a few benign lumps (lipomas, which I knew he had, but not as many as she found), some growths on his gums, and arthritis issues (she showed me in his rear end), etc. I think you guys might remember that two of my German Shepherds were on wheels so this is an emotional issue for me. She said he’s not there yet, but I can see that he’s limping in the rear, it was very noticeable on our Thanksgiving walk. Hopefully the medication will help him. He might not be feeling well on the antibiotic as he hasn’t wanted to eat too much. I slipped him some of my turkey today that I had for lunch, though, and he ate it. He doesn’t beg for food but I do have to watch his weight.
That’s about it. I’ve been freezing cold today. It’s 38 but chilly in the house. And, as if on cue, Toto just came and snuggled up beside me.
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend and has a good upcoming week.
I have a couple of appointments coming up this week as follow up, and tomorrow my SIL and I are going out for lunch as she has an appt near my house. We’ll eat at a nice place by the water.
