Have a better rest of the day dear Lynn.

Thanks dear Bobbi. Extra prayers all around including, of course, for Gus.

Vivian if she comes will do so early afternoon tomorrow. I need to tell her that dad has a cold and I think I caught it. I have a warm throat and runny nose. Dad is more light coughing but also needing more Kleenex. I will ask her again about ibuprofen cream. The very low liquid dose isn't doing much. I would rather get an opinion on the cream before upping the liquid.

Afternoon hug to all.

Lynn I hope your day went better after the issues with your computer.

Flyingdumbo127 Hopefully Vivian can give you some advice on what to use for pain. I hope you and your Dad feel better soon.

Good Morning. It is 35 and rainy. Some areas just to the north and west have icing. On Monday it is supposed to be 57! But rainy. Crazy weather lately. Yesterday I walked at the lake again. It really is a nice place to go and meditate as I walk. Quiet weekend for me as everyone is busy. Today I will most likely go to the gym to use the treadmill. Kenny is coming by later in the afternoon, after work, to start to set up a water sensing system for the basement and around my washer. His Christmas gift to me. I have wanted one so I can know if there is a water leak issue starting. I do turn off the water when I am away for more than 24 hours but this will give me peace of mind for every day. I have housework to do and I will do some work work.

Have a good Saturday.

Good morning. Rained a bit overnight, but the temps have started climbing. Near 60 today and tomorrow, almost 100% chance of rain tomorrow.

I'm heading for Martins (Giant), the closest grocery store. The milk I bought that was 'good sell date 1/3/25' is no good. I had to pour it all out. I don't want to go near Walmart until Wednesday.

Have a good Saturday

Good afternoon! Rainy here. Not overly cold, though, thankfully. At least yet. Ice is the worst. DD’s boyfriend gave her ice skates for XMas, though, so they are going ice skating today.

The floor guys finished the flooring Thursday night, we were so happy! Once that was done we were able to move some furniture into the apt and clean everything up from all the work being done. It looked so nice afterward! Today DH and DD are putting up the kitchen lights and installing the thresholds. The countertops are coming in on Friday, and the bedroom set she ordered is coming that day, too. The only thing left before she’ll move in is the shades, for privacy. And to put on the cabinet handles so she can start putting her dishes and things in there, etc. DS is going to help her pick out a big screen TV and they’ll install it. She borrowed some of our small end tables (I get a lot of them cheap on Amazon as we have a lot of seating between our living room, sunroom and family room and I like every seat to have a table) and is picking out her own today and a coffee table (ordered). Yesterday we ordered the undercounter lights and the towel hooks and such for the bathroom as well as a new bathroom faucet. DD ordered a cute little mouse toilet paper holder (she has the hamsters, remember, so is partial to rodents!). Sitting relaxing in her living room right now. :lovestruc

Last night we had our family Christmas. It was nice. I’d worked long shifts this week and was tired so decided to do paper Hefty plates and order from a local Italian restaurant instead of attempting to cook. I knew it would be crazy enough. Was a little disappointed, one of the pasta dishes (chicken broccoli and ziti) was watery and too oily, I could tell no one liked it. It’s actually what DS always orders when he goes out and he said it just wasn’t good. Ugh. (Tray for ten wasn’t cheap, either; we also got a tray of chicken marsala and I made the Caesar salad and cut up a baguette.) DS had actually called there on his way here to see if they could get it ready an hour early, as the lady on the phone I’d ordered with on Thursday said we could, but the guy who answered was gruff, said no, and hung up on DS! What the…? DS is usually pretty even keeled but he was p’d cause the kids were antsy to get going and DS had worked a double overnight and hadn’t slept much. That response ticked him off. I’m going to write to the owners as we’ve been regulars for many years and it just seemed extreme to be talked to that way, on our Christmas (because five of us had worked the actual holiday) especially when the food costs were high and then it wasn’t good quality. Big disappointment. {rant over}

DH and DD wound up going to pick the food up and they saw who they think was the little gruff man, lol. Other than that we had a good evening! Disney gift cards all around, the kids didn’t really understand them as they don’t know about the winter trip yet. (“Look Mom, I got another one of these things!” 🤣 ) Clean up was pretty easy, then they all went to play games and make bracelets downstairs in the family room and DH and I plopped down in our living room - and fell fast asleep, both exhausted from a long week!

I hope everyone has a good Saturday, and a relaxing weekend. 🐥🥱

Flyingdumbo, I’m concerned you’re ’going in the wrong direction’. You are supposed to be improving, with baby steps to getting better and being able to walk again! Not getting worse. 😟

I have mentioned this before but I’m going to mention it again because it’s what my gut sense is. I take care of people with fluid build up and not only have to help them to get rid of it, but help them understand how to keep it off. What none of us realize is that fluid build up can be quite painful. I didn’t understand it myself until I had surgery and developed pockets of fluid which were extremely painful. True lightbulb moment. I am wondering if you’re developing lower extremity edema from your legs being in a dependent position as well as the salty broth you have for lunch every day. (Sorry, I know you love it.) It’s concerning because it’s affecting your Dad now and is not good for you, either. You have to be able to move! You’re young!

Thinking about it I would really like you to try a two week challenge, of giving up the broth for two weeks. And making sure you don’t replace it with anything else salty/high in sodium. Sodium causes fluid retention when it seeps into the tissues and fluid follows it and gets trapped there. For most people it moves around when walking and bending and all that. But your legs are fairly stagnant so naturally it would stagnate there. This can be what the pain you’re experiencing is from. Bilateral discomfort of both lower extremities is a sign that something systemic is going on. (All over.)

And motrin won’t really help it; at least not the cause. Nor will cream, really. What will help the most is to get rid of the fluid.

This week I ate some ham that I’d baked, and I’d bought some new cottage cheese with pineapple because I love that, and had it two days in a row, then we got McDonalds for a quickie meal when we were working in the apt, and guess what? My ankles became a little swollen from all that sodium! When I got home from work and took my socks off I was like, uh oh! I had to take one of the tablets I keep for that (prescription) and had to spend the day near a bathroom as lots of that fluid came off! (I don’t take this every day but only when fluid build up happens, with my doctor’s blessing. Just filled a new prescription last week as a matter of fact, but it will last me for years.)

It’s also why I think a trip to a PCP could help you get a better handle on the big picture here, rather than just focusing on the feet. It would be good to have your overall health evaluated and get to the bottom of what is happening. BPs can run high with fluid retention. You are at high risk for falls and you could break something. (We had a lady this week who fell flat on her face and broke her nose!) And Dad could become injured if you slipped or something and he tried to catch you. These are things we see all the time. I hope you don’t mind me posting this but I really want to try and help you and my gut is that this has a lot to do with your pain.

Hugs, I know it’s very hard for you. But you can get better! :flower3:

Here is the Campbell’s Beef Broth label. 860mg sodium per serving and 2.5 servings per can. So if you eat a whole can, that’s 2,150mg of sodium just in that one meal. The limit for a whole day’s sodium on a low sodium diet is 2,000mg. So having this day after day, there isn’t anyone who wouldn’t start retaining fluid from it! If you enjoy that can you find a way to get one you like that’s lower sodium? I know you like certain brands and all that but if it’s hurting you, you need to look at it and see if there’s an alternative. This could potentially be a relatively easy fix if you can bring yourself to try it. You also need to look at the foods you’re eating the rest of the day and make sure they’re low sodium content, too.

@Pea-n-Me

That was so well said to Mona. I know it was said out of concern, and I hope that she knows that we all care.

@flyingdumbo127 I think that Pea & Lynn make a compelling reason to see a physician who can evaluate you as a whole, and to help you get to a resolution & treatment plan that will help you improve. Not continue "as is" or slide backwards. I know things might not be as easily done, but at a certain point they are necessary. I wish you good luck in seeking further medical treatment in this matter.

Good morning all! It is 59 here already and going to 64 degrees with over 70% chance of rain. However rain is pretty much after 4pm so I'm hoping to finally get some outdoor stuff done. Going to get out there in the next hour or so after I finish some indoor stuff.

Visited son for a nice brunch with a few family and one friend who is like family. My 2 year old granddaughter was so happy to see us all and she is growing and talking, dancing and singing and playing happily. Would love to post pics and videos that are so cute but parents have a no public media type ban which I respect and adhere to. My other oldest grand was also there but her younger sister had a birthday party to attend.

Daughter in law is ready for her new son to come, but that's still about 3 weeks away. I'm curious as to date of arrival because my birthday is in that ballpark.

After we left they took down all Xmas as time is precious to them now, in getting and staying prepared for the new arrival.

Me, on the other hand will keep my tree up longer as the lights are wonderful and help with seasonal disorder. I will take decorations off and put away. The tree is the prelit micro lites so still beautiful! The cats love it and nest next to it on the base area of the new bay window I had installed in November.

Next for the trauma - I saw the stray outdoor black cat kill a bird earlier under my birdfeeder. Not only that but it was still sort of dark so I picked up my binoculars to see what was moving at the exact moment cat ran in for the kill, and saw feathers flying. I keep the binoculars on the window seat as there are tall trees I scan for birds. No one lives in my line of sight although neighbors are close on either side, there is still privacy. I recognize how nature works but don't necessarily want to witness every detail. :guilty:

Anyway I will be creating a temporary fence around the birdfeeder before I put out any more seeds! I have a 4 foot roll of lighter weight fencing I used for my gardens and some stakes which should work as cat shouldn't be able to balance on it or move as quickly to grab a bird on the ground such as the mourning dove that cat captured this morning.

Flyingdumbo127 Such good advice from Pea. We all want the best for you and all care.

Judique Congrats on the new grandchild coming. Glad you had a fun time with family for the holiday. So sorry about the bird. I know cats are predatory like that but it is still disturbing. That is why I put the sad face. Happy face for family!

Good morning.. It is 35 here and foggy. It will warm up to the upper 40s today. I am going to go to the lake to see if it is too muddy to walk. Then I think a trip to wander around Kohls for a bit. I am in a funk and need to do something. The holidays took alot out of me this year and I need to get to a better place mentally. It doesn't help that work has been a challenge. I just like to do my work thing every day peacefully with no distractions or issues. Kenny could not install the water detection system as it was too advanced for my tech equipment. He has ordered a more basic one which he really should have done anyway. He has a whole technological marvel set up at his house that tells him everything that is going on with water, temp, humidity etc. That is not going to happen at my condo. I did finally order a wireless keyboard. I have been putting it off but Kenny told me I really should so I did. It was just delivered.

Have a good Sunday.

Good morning. Cloudy, temps will be in the 60's, rain this afternoon. I'm not in a good mood this morning, so I need to vent.

To add insult to injury, not only did I never hear from Ben on Christmas, but all I got was a 2 word text from Luke, "Merry Christmas". Not a thank you for the gifts I sent, not a word from any of his 3 girls. They're not kids, the youngest is 17, the oldest is almost 25. So yesterday morning Summer texted me to ask me if I had heard from Luke. She had just gotten a text. It said "Did Mom tell you that I was here?"
He didn't bother texting either of us to say he was coming up. It's now Sunday morning, he told Summer he was leaving early today. And I never heard from him. Keep in mind that he literally has to drive past my house to get to his mothers, since she lives less than a minute down the road.
I'm done. After 24 years being their stepmother, this is what I get, so I just don't care anymore. Summer is upset. She thought maybe her mother would call and invite her and the kids to dinner, but nothing. She hasn't heard from either of them since his message yesterday morning. It is what it is, but it's sad. I don't know if I'm more angry, or more hurt, maybe some of both.
The dark gray sky matches my mood. I'm going to find something to do and just try and forget about it.

Have a good day

Lynn  that can be so frustrating. I remember having those conversations with my mother. She never missed a card or a gift, made a whole day out of picking them out, wrapping, sending, etc. People can get insensitive when busy.

Thanks Pea. I get busy, but since he made a 4 1/2 hour drive down here, you'd think he could be bothered to stop and say hello to me. It is what it is. :(

Lynn that is a pretty crappy way to treat an immediate family member, I can see why you feel the way you do. I’m sorry that this was your experience this Holiday season.

Our Christmas was good, and we learned we will be first time grandparents in July! Not going to lie, still wrapping our heads around it haha! We feel to young to be grandparents haha!

Enjoying some quiet time around the house this week. Already did a bit of clearing out & have my stuff for Goodwill bagged up and in back of truck- now let’s see if I get it there before the 1st😝.

No NYE plans for us. Husband about to be home anytime now from a short 4 day trip up to Lynn’s neck of the woods.

Welp, it’s almost martini time- ever Sunday we sit down at 430 and have martinis & discuss the prior & upcoming weeks. Have a good evening everyone!

The wood stove is finally gone. I was on my way out the door earlier, when the dog next door started barking. I could hear a loud truck, so I looked across the street and there was the guys truck, with a bucket loader on it. He said he broke his phone so couldn't call me first. I had 4 guys and the guys girlfriend here. It was like a Marx Brothers comedy. They decided they had to take the front door off of the stove, then the blower, then all the pipes. They tried to get it up the stairs with a moving dolly, but it wouldn't fit. They had to take the stair railing off and lift it up. Then they got to the top and couldn't make the corner. It took forever. He had told me he bought the end cap to close off the pipe, but he hadn't. So he left to go and get one. He just now came back, with the wrong size. It won't fit inside the pipe and it's too big on the outside. So they left to go to Lowes and get a 5" one instead. When he left earlier, I kept the stove door as collateral in case he didn't come back, lol

Now I have that whole corner empty. It's 60 degrees out and they're calling for severe thunderstorms tonight, at the end of December? This is nuts !

EasyAs Congrats on becoming grandparents!

Lynn Glad you got the stove out of the house even if it was a comedy of errors!

Good morning. It is 52 here now and rain. Temps will go up a bit more then back down to around 40 by evening. It will be colder towards the end of the week. Yesterday Kenny came by to put in the new water sensors he got. Those were much easier to put in. He should know my condo is not a tech marvel. I made a crockpot chicken chili which came out pretty well. I will have leftovers for a couple more meals. I did some walking at the condo as well as went to Kohls to look around. Came out with a new sweater and a long sleeve shirt. If I bring in new clothes I need to donate something so I found a sweater that is too big for me as well as a shirt to put in the donation pile. Ethan turned 8 yesterday. It is the same day as my father's birthday. Kenny has the kids tomorrow and New Year's Day as well as next weekend. I am bringing my gifts to Ethan tomorrow and his kid's party is on Saturday.

Off to another lovely (not) day of work. Have a good day.
