@flyingdumbo127 I make the Betty Crocker old fashioned sugar cookie recipe every year and have since 1976. What I like is that you can make the cookies thin or thicker depending on how you roll out the dough. I have the Betty Crocker cookbook but I found the recipe online. The recipe is towards the bottom. I always use just butter but you can use the shortening you like.

Lynn I hope you go home today to your comfortable and loving home.

This year to make a new tradition, I hope to paint ornaments with the grandkids and bake the sugar cookies with them. I found a bag with 5 ceramic ornaments to paint when I was cleaning out my bedroom closet. It is interesting it is 5 ornaments and I have 5 grandkids. Coincidence or something else? :rolleyes1

Yesterday all the grandkids were together at younger DS's house. They had a good time. I like having everyone together but it is bittersweet and I cry alot.

Today is Chris' birthday so it is a tough day for me. He would have been 68. I baked a King Arthur's Chocolate cake which is a one layer cake, no eggs or butter. It is a recipe from WW II. I will frost it this afternoon and we will have it for dessert tonight to remember Chris. I hope this make this a new tradition.

I am back to the house today for more cleaning. I go back to work in 3 weeks and won't be able to go much except weekends. I hope to go on Wednesdays if I can start work early.

Have a good day.

My son told me that my younger DGS saw the cake I baked. He asked what it was for and DS said it is for Papa's birthday. So DGS called it a remember cake. No one told him that. He is 3 and came up with it himself. He is the one who said Papa is in Heaven and is happy and that Heaven is next to his day care. I like calling it a remember cake so that is the new tradition for Chris' birthday remembrance. Out of the mouths of babes.

Good Monday morning  (this is kind of how I look like right now)

My sister's had a bridal shower for my future DIL yesterday. It was nice, she got a lot of nice things. It was nice seeing everyone again. It came to our attention that a number of people didn't receive their wedding invitation. She's been wondering why people haven't been RSVP'ing and now we know. I sent out texts to whoever is missing an RSVP from my family and friends. Thankfully everyone received their "save the date" cards so they were aware of the date.

The boys got my bathroom fixed, looks so much better. Once I get the electric to the exhaust fan fixed, I'll repaint the bathroom. That will make a huge difference.

Not much else going on. Supposed to be a nice day today, maybe I'll get the motivation to get out and take a walk. Have a good day! :flower:

:grouphug: Hugs from us all @Snowysmom My 6yo niece has said some really sweet things about where my mom is after she passed. She has also told my sister....Grandma comes to visit her when she's sleeping. My sister asked how do she knew and she said because she(grandma) told her.

You guys....I'm exhausted. Doing this whole school routine thing again is tiring. When DD was in elelementary, she didn't start until 9am and we lived close so we didn't have to leave until about 5 minutes before. Taking my niece to school we have to be out of the house by 7:20...too early for me to have to make sure breakfast, hair's done, dressed, teeth brushed....etc. plus this girl has ALOT of energy. Thankfully she kept herself mostly occupied yesterday in her room, it's a disaster now but we'll have it cleaned before her mom and dad come home Thursday.

Today while she's at school, I'm going to Walmart and maybe Old Navy. I have a 50% friends and family coupon that expires today. My niece works there and send me one every year. We don't have one local to us so if I use it, it's usually online but I like going in the store to shop.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Whoo hoo. I am going home today! Just had flu and pneumonia shots, am waiting for meds to be sent to CVS, and paperwork to be done and then I am out of here. Thank you for all the support and keeping me safe you guys did. @Snowysmom, your grandson is so sweet. Sorry ot will be a difficult day for you, but I love that you made a cake for Chris as a new tradition . God Bless you. Seeing you love and hugs

Good Morning everyone.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

@Snowysmom - Hugs. I understand the mouths of babes comments. When my son was about 3 my husband's best friend's father passed away. I don't know why but we took my son to the funeral. I think I couldn't get a sitter for some reason. Anyway my husbands friend was crying as we walked away from the grave site. My son looked up at him and said, "Don't cry Uncle Larry. Your Daddy is with Pelle now." To put it in context Pelle was the goalie for the Philadelphia Flyers who had been killed in a horrible car accident earlier that year. It was my son's first "death" as Pelle was his idol. Uncle Larry was a HUGE Flyers fan. That innocent statement brought a huge smile to our grieving friend. He still talks about it 35+ years later.

I have had a morning. I decided to clean out my entryway "closet" It's more of a boot closet because we took away the top half when we redid the kitchen years ago. It is amazing how much stuff can be crammed into that space. I don't need laundry supplies for at least 3 months. I didn't know I had all the detergent and softener in there. I found a couple things I had been looking for so that was good. I did have some old paint cans from about 12 years ago. Unfortunately they didn't dry out and one of them popped open when I put it in the trash bag. Cleaning spilled pain up off of the floor is no fun. Thankfully I got it up and even managed to clean the floor of any residue. I am more thankful that the floor is scheduled to be replaced with the rest of the downstairs in January.

I have to go to my husbands former cardiologists office later and have it out with them. The doctor my husband saw left the practice to join a new one. We debated moving with him at first but decided to stay with the office he left. Then we ran into problems trying to get his meds refilled. The first office absolutely refused saying he wasn't a patient. Yes he was. After going back and forth we decided to follow the doctor who called the refill in immediately. Now the office is refusing to send his medical records to the doctors new practice. Evidently they have given everybody who left a hard time or are trying to charge hundreds of dollars for the records. I am NOT happy and this will change quickly.

I am off to finish that closet. I need to go buy a couple things for better storage.

Extra:grouphug: Taz and prayer, too. I am so sorry, my friend, you continue to go through so very much. That is terrible of the old doctor's office and I believe is illegal, too, isn't it? :(

Don't ever buy furniture online that you are unfamiliar with. We bought an Amazon what was to be a night stand. Piece of junk that poor dad spent so much time building. After all his efforts, the one drawer doesn't open properly and the bottom part probably can't hold much at all before it would fall apart. Amazon, thankfully will issue a full refund and are even having UPS come pick it up so dad does not have to bother taking it apart.

I enjoyed a little warmer weather today. it is supposed to be in the 80's later in the week. time of life change still has me every so often feeling a cool flash.

To quote dear Pea from the other day, 🐥

Good evening everyone - Sorry, I missed a lot of things but hope everyone is doing well.
Lynn, hope you enjoy your first night back home and you are able to get a good nights sleep.
Not much is going on around here. Husband & eldest out in woods looking for a deer. I got home around 6:45 and pups are pissed that I didn't lay a fire for them. It's so funny how dogs (and I suppose cats, too) get into their little routines and prefer that they don't get messed with. Dinner this evening consists of Tillamook chocolate chip mint ice cream. Not a flavor I reach for first, but it's not half bad.
Got a lot done around here this past weekend, eldest took the top layer of grass & dirt off of the front yard and we put 11 dump truck loads of topsoil down, which he then graded to perfection for us. It's nice having a talented heavy equipment operator on staff! Husband already seeded it as well. We could have used more dirt, but got the job done. The fill dirt that made up our front yard was pure junk so this ought to make a marked improvement.
I saw Christmas Lights up on a house on my way home this evening. I'm...a bit of a scrooge but I like to enjoy Thanksgiving first! Speaking of which, I grabbed two turkeys last week. Wasn't planning on getting one this early but both a small 10 lb one AND a 24 lb one so I grabbed them both since I always seem to struggle to find large & small turkeys. I will save the smaller one for another time and use the larger one for Thanksgiving.
Eldest son goes to settlement on Friday - you can tell he is excited. I'm excited and proud for / of him. 25 and buying his first place. We got him thru being a dare devil in his youth, wearing a tie to school for 4 years straight, never getting arrested or getting anyone's daughter pregnant, a active registered voter, and into a career not just a random job. Can our job be done now?!?!?! Maybe I'm just giddy at the thought of being empty nesters again and regaining my basement & hot tub back!
Not a whole lot going on this weekend - well, except for helping the boy move! Our nephew is coming to spend the weekend with us as well since it is Youth (hunting) weekend and my husband is taking him out hunting. I might have mentioned it before, but we have a fairly full slate now thru mid-April and it's just starting to ramp up. I'm okay with it, especially after the last year & a half.
I think I'll let the pups out one more time and turn in for the evening. No matter spring forward or fall back, the time change fouls with me a bit. Have a good one everyone -

Good evening.

We ended up going to the Conowingo Dam today before it gets too crowded at thanksgiving. It is a great place to see eagles and the photographers were already getting plentiful. We did see 3 eagles plus a lot of sea gulls and vultures. Then we took a 5 mile bike ride.

That is terrible of the old doctor's office and I believe is illegal, too, isn't it?
Doctors are allowed to charge for patient records. I think each state may mandate what is allowed. When DH retired, he discovered how long it took to print out/copy records and mail them. Here is what Maryland law says - Under state law, you may be charged no more than 76 cents per page for having your records copied, plus actual postage and handling costs.

Husband & eldest out in woods looking for a deer.
Saturday morning we had a deer run through the front yard, a fairly large doe. In 33 years this is only the second or third time we've seen deer in the yard.

Eldest son goes to settlement on Friday
Woo Hoo! How exciting.

Good night everyone.

Happy Tuesday :flower2:

Nothing much to report about yesterday. Never got motivated to go for that walk. I think I have tendonitis in my foot. It started hurting over the weekend and I didn't do anything to it. Anyway, I didn't walk yesterday because it is still a little tender and it kind of hurts when I walk. Then later in the morning I was outside and put my dog on the leash because the dog next door was out. My dog, Boomer, decided to run to the fence (which he can't get to b/c he's on a leash!) and before I could get back up the steps the metal leash wrapped across my shin when he pulled :crazy2:. OMG I though my leg was going to snap in half. Now I have a huge bruise and bump across my shin. Then to top it all off, I took dinner up to my aunt last night and when I opened her storm door, it flung back so fast it smacked my right in my elbow  so now I have a nice bruise on my elbow. I swear to dog, I need to be wrapped in bubble-wrap!!!!

That's about it, sitting at work right now deciding if I really want to start work or just keep scrolling through this site. Today's my birthday so I stopped at Dunkin Donuts and treated myself to a frozen hot chocolate :cake:. I don't drink coffee so this is about the only thing I can handle from there.

Hope everyone has a great day! :sunny:

Yay Lynn....so glad you are home and rested well last night.

Happy Birthday @footballmouse Enjoy you frozen hot chocolate. After I get my tooth fixed on Thursday, I wanna try that.

Speaking of my tooth...OMG they better fix my tooth Thurs. I keep forgetting and will take a drink of some cold water and OMG....it hurts so bad. Did I even mention my tooth here??

Anyway...I have little girl hair to do so I'll ge back later....

Good morning.

I went to a virtual meeting of WW this morning. They changed their app and points system and I hate change.

Have a two hour shift at church today then going to do some shopping for one Christmas gift. Have to go without DH.

:welcome:home Lynn. Glad you were able to sleep last night.

:bday:@footballmouse!🎂

I need to be wrapped in bubble-wrap!!!!
When I was little my mother always said that she needed to wrap me in cotton batting. I guess that was before bubble wrap. I also have a tendency to injure myself.

Have a great day everyone.
