Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Did some running around yesterday with DS. It was nice to get to spend some time together with just the two of us. We took a nice walk with Toto by the water. It was beautiful, but a little chilly šŸ˜• and hadn’t thought to bring a jacket - not in that mindset yet! Went by DS’s new workplace where he will start next week. So glad he is moving along from the crazy place he was working at before. We grabbed some breakfast for dinner and brought one home for DH; DD was working.

Last night we watched the new nighttime show at Epcot on the YouTube preview - did anyone else see it? I really liked it! DS was saying this morning a lot of comments were that people didn’t like it. As much as I liked Illuminations, it was time for a change, and I thought this show was very ā€œDisneyā€. The thing we didn’t like, though, was the big circle sticking out of the water all day which changes the landscape of the World Showcase. If they could just hide it… I reminded DS about the Tapestry of Nations Parade that we used to get stuck in when they were little and sleeping in strollers, so DS pulled it up on YouTube to see what it was all about and was like, ā€œOh, wow!ā€ :lmao:

DD is almost done with her first graduate class, and will start the next one right away. I like the way they do it, as a rolling schedule so you can do it at your own convenience. I think she will take a little break over XMas and then jump back in in January. She didn’t love the class, but she learned a lot. Itā€˜s kept her quite busy since August. One just about down! She should like the second class better.

Lynn, have you tried a heating pad for your back at night? It might be soothing, especially if you could find one that straps on and moves with you. When I have neck pain, the thing that helps me most, besides Motrin, is heat. I buy the ones at WalMart that heat in the microwave and Velcro on. They are in the medical section near the pharmacy. Is your appetite always gone? I, too, think a check in with your PCP would be a good thing for you.

@footballmouse I know that feeling of not being there for games after so many years of being at every one! We were at most of DS’s games over the years, at least one of us. Sometimes I was at work, but DH would be there, and vice versa, except the year Mom was sick at home, then we both missed quite a few, but we could watch the broadcast on the TV. Very hard when it was all over, especially the way it ended so abruptly due to Covid. It’s nice that you had/have that with your son! And thank him for his service for us!

Have a nice, fall day, everyone! šŸ‚ šŸšŸ„

We have one of the microwave ones..I try alternating cold and heat during the day, but I am always so hot at night , that I never think of the heating pad. Will try that tonite. Maybe I should try Motrin instead of Tylenol for a change? I have never tried Motrin. And my appetite is always terrible when I have a cold, and I think this one is hanging on just because I am a little run down after everything. I think we are just stuck in a little limbo after all that has gone on over the last 3 months, it will get better soon. As always Pea,,thanks for the advice and suggestions! :grouphug:

It is a little hard to keep heat on when you’re hot. But even if you have to use the AC, it might help. Motrin is an anti-inflammatory, where Tylenol isn’t. So if something in your back is inflamed, it might work better. As long as you can take it, with food. I know you are run down, for sure. Being a caregiver is strenuous work, and you’ve been at it for months! There are things, though, that can cause a cough and loss of appetite that your doctor would be able to pick up on right away. A chest XRay would be a good start with a cough that’s lasted as long as the one you’ve had, even if you get your cold every summer. I know you probably feel that Mr L needs you and you can’t take time for yourself, but it might be time well spent. Hugs. Give it some thought. :grouphug: Glad Mr L is doing better.

Good morning Quackers and Happy last day of September! 🐄

You are so creative, PollyannaMom! What a great idea using the bread ties as cord labels.

Hug, Taz, you are a wonderful, caring mom. Enjoy the concert tonight!

Hooray for Mr. L, Lynn! I’m very happy you did get some extra sleep, my friend. Happy Anniversary to you and Mr. L! And Happy almost Birthday to you, tomorrow! Please do take care and eat something, even just an egg and toast or some cereal, something. Definitely save a birthday dinner treat from your SIL for when you are feeling a ton better as something extra to look forward to!

Other than the cold, which I would not have liked either, that sounds like a nice outing with your son and sweet little Toto, too, Pea. Proud of your DD. I’ve never been to WDW, I don’t know one show over another. I did always like the Christmas Fantasy Parade at DL. I’m not very parade patient. I remember it was just the right length and also not overly loud. I hope to get to see it again one year post pandemic.

Cool morning again here. Dad is headed over to the Dollar Tree shortly and the car wash. My poor car will be white(r) again!

Hugs to all for a great day. I shall check back a little later.

Good morning.

This morning I made sweet and sour meatballs to freeze and take to Florida for a dinner. I kept the special box and cold packs that came with a Blue Apron shipment and will pack frozen meatballs in it and they should be fine. Also working on a grocery list at the closest major grocery store to our condo. A Publix. I can make the list online and print it and it groups everything by aisle.

I saved a lot of quotes.

She loves to head to Lancaster in the spring to smell the manure!
When we were up there last week, we smelled the mushroom houses and it was not pleasant.

Watch Survivor last night. Love that show and love me some Jeff Probst.
I like it too. Did you think Jeff was hoarse last night? He sounded that way to me.

@Pea-n-Me makes some very good points. Motrin/Advil/ ibuprofen are all the same and anti-inflammatory so might help more. Heat is a good idea but do not use with the Icy-Hot or you can burn your skin. And a trip to your PCP sounds like a good idea.

Have to get some lunch to get to Bible study at 1.

I love that!!!

I long ago made an aisle-order list in my computer for the grocery store I usually go to as well. It has main categories plus specific items we buy often, so I can just circle or write things in the right place as we run out. - I print a few and stick them on the fridge, then grab and go on grocery day. It makes the shopping experience so much better for me.

I do the same..keep a master list in the computer,,color coded for each of the 3 stores we have. Then just add and subtract what I need or don't and print them out. Helped that I have everything in order for each store, especially since my SIL and niece have been shopping for me..saves them a lot of time!

Happy Thursday all....I've not felt the best the past couple days. The weather is changing and its been a bit smoky down here in Southern California from Northern California fires which is pretty wild so allergies/sinuses are acting up. I had a headache almost all day yesterday. Even tried to take a nap and that didn't help at all. I ended up taking two tylenol last night and it finally went away. Havent felt like cooking much either so DD has been on her own a lot lately...lol I think I'm going to make some Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes for dinner tonight.

Like I said the weather is changing its been actually cool here...YAY!! No AC running during the day Tues or yesterday...woo-hoo. Today already feels like it will be the same.

DD was offered and accepted a job offer yesterday. So excited for her...it will be her first full-time job with benefits so she's excited(and a little nervous) too. She starts in a little over 2 weeks.

DH has been working hard with not many days off for a couple months now so his supervisors are kinda pushing him to take some time off...I don't think they want him to burn out. LOL. So when he gets home today, we're gonna discuss where to go for a quick trip in a couple weeks.

Hope everyone has a good rest of your day. :grouphug:

The kind that would give me heartburn lol. I haven't found a wine that I really like yet. I tried a Riesling last year and had heartburn for 3 days. My daughter says I have a cheap palate since I only like a good Guinness now and again.

I also do not care for Riesling, we were in Germany and tried A LOT of it and even the driest blend was to fruity for me. Our grapes go towards sweeter red blends & rose, and between you & me...no thanks. I'm not a rose or sweeter wine person, so I don't even drink much of our wine! But - we don't make it, we just grow it, so I don't feel to bad!

I never missed a game.

My boys played soccer elementary school thru high school & one of them in college. I missed most of the college game. Man - it was WEIRD not going to sports games anymore! And hey - one of mine is in the Army, too ā¤

21'st Anniversary day for us

Happy Anniversary!

I kept the special box and cold packs that came with a Blue Apron shipment

Those ice packs they send are great! I've squirreled away a few of them myself, I've got to take a cold pasta salad up to New Jersey on Saturday and I'm going to use some then.

I had a headache almost all day yesterday.

I was just down in the lunch room raiding the pantry for my headache and my SIL mentioned that I was the 4th person doing so this afternoon. Must be something in the pressure from the weather change or ??? I don't know what.

DD was offered and accepted a job offer yesterday. So excited for her...it will be her first full-time job with benefits so she's excited(and a little nervous) too

Congrats to her! How exciting, and yay for the benefits!

Well, I can tell you guys are just dying to know - we ended up going with pot stickers last night. Well, I say we but both guys wanted them and I didn't care either way. But dang it those things are good! Dinner this evening will be leftovers and odds & ends. We have chicken soup left, lunch meat for sandwiches plus my husband did some experimental (with the brine & seasonings) smoking yesterday so there is a hunk of something wrapped up in the fridge...so no need to make anything else. Tomorrow is crab cakes- my folks are in town briefly and I have some meat in the freezer that I want to get used up.

Eldest is a month away from his settlement date, and I think he's ready to move! I noticed they are starting to stockpile some stuff like furniture & rugs in our garage ::yes:: It should be fun for them being in my the holidays.

Waiting to hear if we get our next foster dog in the next week or so. There are some logistics to be worked out by folks other than me, which will determine if she comes to our home or goes to another. She's young, only 11 months old and purportedly very energetic and puppy-like still. I'm going to be NO GOOD if she comes to stay with us because I'm not used to being able to go buy halloween & holiday outfits for smaller dogs since they don't make them that fit our dogs! I'll have to keep myself from buying to many ha ha!

Speaking of Halloween, I've bought some more mums (already have others planted in yard) to put on porch w/ pumpkins and that is the entirety of my fall decor outside. It's simple, but fits the house. I've never been big into Halloween decorations-not for any reasons other than it just never appealed to me. Maybe if we had trick or treaters - but we don't.

I've got a morning & afternoon full of errands tomorrow. First thing I need to go into town to grab a few things. Then I've got a Dr. appt. at 10, then I need to stop at a bank to close an account, then I need to be at the airport around 1 to pick up my folks, should hopefully be home by 3 assuming shore traffic isn't that bad over the Bay Bridge and try to get in a bit of time on the mower before my niece is dropped off around 4 for the night. Saturday we have a family function in the afternoon, Sunday - Sunday is looking wide open with not much going on.

Have a good one everybody-

Almost done my Publix list. So helpful for an unfamiliar store.

I long ago made an aisle-order list in my computer for the grocery store
Our Food Lion was remodeling as the pandemic started so I got a floor plan map and make my list by aisle to get in and out faster. At least until I started using curbside pick up.

DD was offered and accepted a job offer yesterday.
Congratulations to her!

I've never been big into Halloween decorations-not for any reasons other than it just never appealed to me.
Same here. And with the kids gone, I doubt I'll do anything. We don't usually get Treat or Treaters either.

Spaghetti and salad for dinner tonight. DH wanted crabs but when he called around they were just too expensive.

Enjoy your visit with your folks, Easyas. how cool that you and Footballmouse share the similarity of both having sons who played soccer and who also served in the Army. Thank you always for reaching out to dogs in need of a loving home.

That was smart Carol, especially during the pandemic. I don't understand why our Target keeps changing up the aisles. I really would think they would want customers in and out!

No trick or treaters ever here.

We don’t get trick or treaters here. Last year I did befriend a family on the next street over. Around Halloween we were passing their house and I mentioned to the mom that we do buy treats and if they stopped by, we would make a fuss over the kids and even take their picture. They did come, and we had a good time with the family, but they are the only trick or treaters we have had at this house. Most houses on our street are second homes for folks in Philadelphia. In winter it’s very quiet on our block.

We live three blocks from Coast Guard base housing. That area is a magnet for Trick or Treaters.

I do buy treats, just in case!

Wine is generally my go-to drink, and Riesling is generally my choice. I don’t like overly sweet wines, either. I bought a bottle in FL but sent most of it home with our friends who live there. The small wines we had on my birthday were cherry. We all liked them. I looked around for some cherry wine when I got home, but couldn’t find any. Will keep my eye peeled. I did find some cranberry wine and bought a bottle, but haven’t tried it yet. Will report back when I do, lol. We also had tried some cherry beer at F&W and liked that, too. Sam Adams makes it so I picked some of that up to have on hand. Was looking for the pineapple beer in FL but couldn’t find any so I got Kona. That, we finished. :drinking1I also enjoy an espresso martini once in a while. I drink just rarely. DH really doesn’t drink at all.

QOTD: What is your go-to drink, and how often do you drink it?

Lynn, hope you had a nice birthday and anniversary! And hope your back is feeling better soon. 🐄

QOTD: What is your go-to drink, and how often do you drink it?
Im assuming you mean alcoholic drink....if not don't mind me. I'm not a big drinker but do drink when we're with friends. My go to drink is vodka cranberry or vodka soda with lime. Usually when we're at the pool, I'll drink hard seltzers, I don't love the taste but some are better than others and they are convenient for the pool. Can't stand beer. :crazy2: I love the way wine smells but I don't like the taste. My brother is a chef and when he makes dinners for us, he always does wine pairing and its lost on me. LOL He says I just haven't found the right one yet...lol I did like a white blend on a cruise, something our server recommended but I forgot to ask the name of it.

Picked up DH at the airport, DD came with me so the three of us went out for dinner to celebrate her new job. All three of us haven't been out to eat in over a year...DD has been very diligent with Covid precautions. :o We were actually the only people in the restaurant until a large group ladies came in. They were so loud in the waiting area, while the servers were setting up their table, and then they came over and started moving tables and chairs around deciding they wanted to sit somewhere else. Our server was their server too, every time she came to our table she apologized for them taking so much of her time. She ended up giving us $25 and a to go very large slice of chocolate cake this restaurant is famous for... so sweet of her. DD left her a very nice tip. I hope those ladies took care of her too, they didn't seem very considerate to the staff while we were in there.

Google pic of the cake....its called the Motherlode Cake from Claim Jumper.

I was too full from my dinner but had a couple bites when we got home and OMG...so yum. All the times we've been there we've never had it before.

I did mean alcoholic drink, but I deliberately left it open because I know a lot of people don’t drink.

Oooh, that cake looks scrumptious! :lovestruc

We were seated near a table of ladies like that a few months ago at a restaurant. I think I posted about it. There were ten or twelve of them. They were so loud we couldn’t hear ourselves talk. :bitelip: Everyone in the room was looking around at eachother like wth, but no one said anything, and no one offered us anything, either! So that was really nice of your server!

Happy Friday :dogdance:

Pretty boring last night. Dropped my sisters off at the concert, talk about a madhouse. Police were really good keeping the traffic flowing on the main street. Got my front yard cut also, I'll do the back later this morning. Gotta work that kind of stuff in around my game shows :thumbsup2.

DD was offered and accepted a job offer yesterday. So excited for her...it will be her first full-time job with benefits so she's excited(and a little nervous) too. She starts in a little over 2 weeks.
Congrats to your dd for the new job. I'm sure she's going to have a lot of questions for you when she brings her benefit paperwork home.

Waiting to hear if we get our next foster dog in the next week or so. There are some logistics to be worked out by folks other than me, which will determine if she comes to our home or goes to another.
When I look on various rescue sites and see that they are being fostered, I always scroll past them because I think "well they're already in a home, I don't want to take them away from their family", but then a friend who fosters kittens told me that I was wrong to think like that. Once they get adopted, then that opens up a space for the foster family to take in a new dog. I just feel bad for the dog, I'm sure they think the foster family is their real family. That's great that you do this.

Headed to the grocery store after work. I really hate grocery shopping. I have a list and think that I'm going to do really good sticking to my budget :rotfl2:, but then Holy Cow, groceries are expensive. There goes the grocery budget. I don't stray far from my list so it's not like I'm grabbing dumb stuff and it's only 2 of us. We have to eat so I have to pay the prices.

Everyone have a great day! :daisy:

Good Morning.

It's a nice chilly 50 degrees outside right now. I used to love the heat of the summer but I really appreciate a nice brisk morning now. Funny thing is while I was always cold in the winter my husband walked around with a light weight hoodie in the winter. Now he is always freezing and I am the one in the hoodie.

I did get to the Farmers Market yesterday and have decided to go with the chain furniture store for the dining room chairs. Both have about a 6 month delivery window but the chain, which is where I actually bought the dining room set, has the chairs I want at a much cheaper cost. The difference is almost $1500. That is a HUGE difference for basically the same chair.

I have Bathfitters coming out this afternoon to check the shower. I feel as the the handle to turn on the water has gotten very difficult to turn, and it may be just me, but I want it looked at to be sure. They do offer a lifetime warranty on their work and this was only installed a year ago. They can be a tad expensive but I am happy with the company and the work they did.

Thankfully I have a ton of work to keep me busy since my Word program crashed briefly yesterday and even though I save my work as I type I lost about 3 days of work. It may mean going through all the pictures AGAIN. I threw out some of my notes so not sure what I have yet.

QOTD: My drink of choice everyday is a cup of coffee in the morning and then my home brewed Iced Tea the rest of the day. It's 7 tea bags to a gallon of water and nothing else in it. It is an acquired taste. What is odd though is I am not a fan of hot tea.

Alcoholic drinks I don't drink that often although my daughter insists I should have a glass of wine every night to relax. I am a beer drinker but I like my beer like I like my coffee - dark and strong. My go to is Guinness. In the summer I like a beer I tried at one of the festivals in Disney, it's Leinenkugel Berryweisse. It's a bit on the fruity side but nice for the summer. I bought a 6 pack of each of them over a year, maybe 18 months, ago and I still have 3 bottles of Guinness left. That equates to less than one a month. I used to like a Pina Colada when I went out but that was back when my husband could drive.

I made a vow over 40 years ago that I will NEVER drink and drive. I lost a friend to a drunk driver right after we graduated from high school so in his memory I made that vow and I stick to it. I also grew up hearing the stories about 2 of my grandparents, each of my parents had an alcoholic parent, and that shaped the way I view drinking.

I am off to google how to get to my grandsons ball game tomorrow. It's about 90 minutes away but not far from Lancaster. Have a great day
