Good morning everyone. Been AWOL again, it's been a rough week.
On the positive side my great nieces are both home finally. Finley came home 2 days before Evie but they are both over 5 lbs. now and doing well from what was posted on Facebook. I think that may be apart of what my mood has been this week. I am truly happy that the babies are doing well but in all likelihood I will never meet them. My one great nephew is 2 and the picture of him with the babies was the first time I have ever seen him. My niece is pretentious and I live in the city and was married to a lowly city worker and I have a Philly accent, the horrors!!! My mom thinks she is wonderful and it bothers me that she can't understand my feelings, but my mom equates having money to being a good person. What can I do.
Food distribution was very slow this week because we had rain. We still had FOUR big boxes of sweet potatoes, 3 different types of cucumbers and a full case of lettuce at the end of the day plus a ton more perishables. There is no room in the church refrigerator or freezer. Thankfully one of our new volunteers is a wonder. Last week she managed to find another church willing to take 4 cases of baby carrots. I will be curious to see what she can redistribute this week.
Today is a beautiful day and perfect for a Fall Ball Baseball tournament. I am looking forward to seeing my grandson play again. The kids are all back in school and I have 3 graduating this year, 2 from High School and one from 8th grade. LJ has 2 teeth and loves food. Last week we gave him a small taste of guacamole and he LOVED it. It is a pleasure to see him. He gives kisses now, or his version. He puts his wide open mouth on your cheek and shakes his head around but I love it. He is such a happy baby.
QOTD: my favorite characters are Grumpy, Eeyore and Mickey of course. My husband loves Donald Duck. I tend to like the sad sack misunderstood characters.
I have a few favorite character memories. Our first trip ever to Disney was when my daughter was about 3 and she LOVED Pooh. This was back when there weren't any real meet and greets. As we were leaving to head to the airport Pooh finally came out. My mom refused to let me take her down for a quick pic. We were 3 hours early, sitting in an airport listening to her sob "I see Pooh PLEASE!" She still remembers it 30+ years later.
A few years later we were down again with my mom joining us. She stayed at the hotel with my son who had been vomiting, turned out he had a panic attack at the ripe old age of 15. I took the girls to the parks and we had a ball just the 3 of us meeting characters. My youngest had on a Mickey shirt which Donald Duck seemed to find offensive. He wrote in her autograph book that she needed a new shirt but the picture was funny. He covered Mickey
Fast forward quite a few years and we were in Disney with my older daughters family. Her youngest LOVED Minnie Mouse and was so excited we were in line to meet her. As we got close to the meet and greet area she peeked around the curtain and I got one of my favorite pictures. I caught the excitement
That was just a great trip. Belle twirled with her, Rapunzel refused because it wasn't ladylike. But the funniest interaction was with Jessie and Woody. Ella had a Jessie doll that she carried to the park. Woody loved it and put it in his boot as though to keep it. Ella was so angry it made for a great experience. She was complaining to her mom here, everyone was getting a good laugh out of it.
That trip was so great on so many levels. We realized Mikey was on the Spectrum earlier that year and the CM at the line for Tiana and Naveen told the people in line grumbling about how long they were taking to just wait their turn. They were so accommodating to his needs that I wanted to cry tears of happiness. Mikey just had the longest conversation with Naveen. Mikey had really just started talking about a year earlier and to see him so engaged was wonderful. A CM was so taken with him, Mikey just started a random conversation, that he took Mikey in the Emporium and had him pick out a Perry hat because it was Mikey's favorite character. That was probably one of the best trips ever even with my Disney hating SIL with us. He had a bad experience there as a kid and was resistant to having fun until he saw how much Mikey was growing on the trip.
I look forward to taking LJ down in a few years for a new generation of character interactions.
Hope everyone has a pleasant day.
