My Amazon Smile is (North Abaco) Potcakes Rescue!
I had to google potcake. Never heard of that before.

but thankfully no damage.
So glad to hear this. Watching the weather and I was worried about you with where tornadoes were.

point & shoot is all I'm looking for
I got a Sony DSC-W830 about 3 years ago for pictures on vacations. Now that I have an iPhone, I have to say the the pictures on the phone are much better than the ones on the camera. The phone is so much faster too. I want to use the camera but it is slow.

But there are plenty of quick, simple tips that almost everyone can use to get better pictures on whatever camera they have right now, or a new one, whatever.

Ah - see that is my problem - I don't have a camera to begin with! I guess my first action should be to actually get one...

@easyas123--your hubby was right, that is his LJSilvers. The water went uphill from Ollies, through Motel 6 parking lot, onto Burger King and into LJSilvers lot..Parts of the parking lot of Motel 6 got washed away :(

yikes, yeah that was a lot of water.

@easyas123 - You only need a point and shoot if you don't want all the bells and whistles with multiple lenses. I have used Canon, Olympus, Sony and Nikon for that. I am somewhat camera obsessed LOL. For a point and shoot I actually prefer Canon or Nikon with Sony right behind them. Of course it has been a few years since I went that route since I shoot with a DSLR and a long zoom lens for sports but the lens has a great range. I can answer any questions you may have but my advice is always go to a store and see the cameras in person and don't listen to the salesperson telling you to look at the megapixels. They seem to think that makes a great camera, it's only good for gigantic prints.

Yes, only need/want point & shoot for dummies. I don't even know what DSLR is :rotfl2: , but I'm a sometimes-luddite with certain technology because my brain just doesn't think that way. Cannon, Nikon or Sony - got it, thanks. I look at those brands.

Thanks everyone for the camera recommendations!

On our last trip my husband took all the photos w/ his cell phone. They turned out okay, but he felt he would be happier with the results of a hand held camera. He took LOADS of photos. In real life we don't take a bunch of photos, but when we are somewhere new and interesting to us we like to snap a few. I don't think I've taken a photo at WDW in years, but the second we got off the plane in a new country? clickclickclick away!

" I had to google potcake. Never heard of that before."
My folks actually lived there for many years until Hurricane Dorian took out the area they were in, and we have a lot of fond memories of the potcakes, so I figured it would be a nice place to donate that had meaning for us. 2 years ago yesterday. Majority of the remaining homes still have no electric...I could go on and on, but won't. It's to disheartening.

It is sometimes exhausting to take care of the grandkids for a long period of time. I don't know how grandparents do it every day.
You sort of get used to it. I really haven't had the opportunity to be a grandma since the GK's live with us.

Believe it or not, the 11pm news never ended, the weather person has been on continuously since then just warning about these tornadoes!
That's what happens here when there is a tornado warning. We have to be weather aware when a storm comes through.

[/QUOTE]
There were several tornados in the area. I wish I could find a link for the one video some friends posted on Facebook. There is a bridge in my area that is scary to drive over, to me anyway. It crosses the Delaware river into Burlington NJ. The cameras at the bridge caught a rather good size tornado going from PA to NJ right near the bridge, actually crossing the path to it in NJ. That would have terrified me as I hate driving on that bridge as it is, I always have.
I hope that you never encounter one while out driving. Six or seven years ago the day after Christmas, I believe I have mentioned this tornado here before, a tornado went across a high rise or mix master as we call it where two highways come together and the connecting bridges are real high up (sometimes three/four levels) in the air. The tornado blew cars off of the bridges onto the highway below. It was horrible.

DH, DS and I are getting our flu shots in October, right after DS turns 18. That way, he can go get it with us at Publix or Walgreens or CVS.
I usually get my flu shot in October too but since I'm seeing my PCP in a couple of weeks for my yearly checkup I imagine they will want me to get it then instead of waiting.

I took Lou Lou to meet the teacher this morning for pre-school. Found out that she will have to move to another class since she is not potty trained. She is very strong willed and will only use the potty when we wants to. It's not worth fighting her over. She'll get there in her own time.

Just learned something else new today. I planted two tomato plants, enough for two of us. One was Better Boy which has been producing nice red tomatoes. The other was Mr. Stripey. The tomatoes grow very big but stay yellow/red and rot on the vine before they turn red. I picked one today to try to fry. Decided to cut it and it was delicious raw. I googled and found it is an heirloom tomato that is supposed to be yellow/orange, and I was letting them rot. Now I know.

We took 100's of photos on our last trip to Germany & France w/ cell phones and we thought a small, decent digital camera might do a bit better. I fully admit I have enough to do without learning the intricacies of photography in the next few months, point & shoot is all I'm looking for!

In that case, I love my Nikon CoolPix S560. - It's very small, the controls are pretty intuitive, and I've been able to take some nice photos with it. (But I've had it a loooong time, so it may have been replaced by a newer model by now. )

Like Pea said, I usually just use my iPhone for everyday shots now. But I occasionally pull out an actual camera for events or if I need a "real" zoom. (Your phone has what's called digital zoom, which sacrifices some quality. A camera can have what's called optical zoom, which keeps more of the sharpness.)

My favorite heirloom tomato is Cherokee Purple. From what I understand, they have been around for 100 years and were grown by the Cherokee Indians. They can be an ugly color inside but are delicious sandwich tomatoes.

DGD had a good first day of first grade. She knows a few kids in the class and is happy there are more girls than boys in the class. Today she is excited to order lunch at school. She is looking so much older now and has gotten so tall. She isn't the little girl any more. She is growing up a bit.

DH had to get a new phone last weekend as his just died and could not be revived. It is 4 years old and not worthy of a trade in allowance. I have the same old phone and will be upgrading this weekend. I need it for various apps that I use and apps for the car. Older DS told me I could not use Android auto on the car with my current phone. I would say so what but then he makes me feel like an old lady. I am not a fan of technology and I am letting DH learn how to use the phone. Then he can tell me how it works. The good news is that that camera is very good on the new phone.

Almost Friday and it is a 3 day weekend!

For kicks and giggles, check out the camera on the iPhone Pro Max 12:

https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/ip...o-exciting-pro-photographers-raw-sensor-zoom/

It has an optical zoom lens @PollyannaMom (as do some of the Android models now, too) and some other pretty impressive photography features for a phone! :goodvibes Of course, to get the most out of it (like with any camera), it helps to learn how it works. That will be a little challenge for me if I make the jump, but I think one might be in my future.

Mr Stripeys are one of our favorites. I save seeds from one every year to start new ones. Sorry that you thought they were rotting :(

Absolutely gorgeous day here. Got to 78, with sunshine, blue skies, and a nice breeze. Walmart was busy, but not packed, Aldi's was fairly quiet. Got everything we needed. Came home and put everything away, then needed a nap. Between this cold, and not sleeping well, I was dragging. Slept for an hour. Dinner is going to be leftovers.

The rain pretty much knocked every one of my tomato plants down in the garden, and it's too late in the season to try tying them up again.
I don't think there are many more out there anyhow. And we have an entire cookie sheet full of them to use up

Have a nice evening all

This was just posted the other day

thanks-that’s a informative article!

iPhone Pro Max 12:

I have a new iPhone, it’s a 12 something or another…. I HATE changing phones and upgrading so in truth I just had the gal in the office who deals with all our cell phones order me a new one, I didn’t pick it out- I think my last one was maybe a iPhone 8? All the bells & whistles on phones are wasted in me :)!!!

it is soooo nice out. After we were both home this evening we just had a seat under the willows and sat there for a good 40 minutes. Laundry, dinner and dishes finally got me inside. Can’t wait for the gorgeous weather this weekend.

Prayers for your niece, Easyas! Please continue to stay safe especially with all your work related driving! Have a safe and fun trip!

I like how you put that, Pea about cameras not taking the picture completely. My current phone (to be fair the lighting in this apartment that’s so poor) doesn’t always take the best of photos. Dad’s phone which is older does better! I don’t know much about cameras but a cousin of mine is a photo nut and I have a friend from church who does the photography camp over the summer. I did have in the old days both Kodak and Canon cameras. Of course, back when dinosaurs still took pictures, I had disposables, my Grandma eons ago had a Polaroid which I thought was the coolest thing to be able to see the picture develop, and even some Kodak Advantix—anyone remember those , with the three picture size choices? What I remember most about that film is how expensive it was! Now we get phone pictures printed every so often from CVS.

How awful and sad, Lynn :( I sure pray the weather is better this next week ahead out there for all of you on the East coast! Get some good rest tonight and feel much better in the morning!
Hooray for getting the shoes at very long last, Taz! I pray they are comfortable for your DH for quite some time to come!

Carol, you along with the rest of our Quacker family, take some lovely photos for which I thank all of you all for sharing with us :)

That sounds downright frightening, Kirby, yikes! :( Hooray for Lou Lou! I hope she likes her teacher and has a good time at school.

Hooray for your DGD, Snowysmom. I’m so glad she had a good day at school. Kiddos sure do grow up right before our eyes that is for sure!

This time of life change can sure take turns lol. I always thought hot flashes, for example=a literal flash of a wave of heat that always lasted! Every now and then that does happen and did overnight this last week but that was more pure suddenly warm. I seem to experience more the quick flash kind and more often :P Oh well. Grateful always to be well! :)

🍪 note. McDonald's sells 3 chocolate chip cookies for under $2. They are very tasty when heated in the microwave. Every now and then, they do make a tasty treat. Pre pandemic, they also sold sugar cookies which were very good. Dad found a bag of softer/fresher sugar cookies at Pavilions that both heat up and keep (because they are soft) so well. Only trouble is you get 18! Right now, it's hard to share any due to the pandemic. Would love to share with all of you, of course!

Wishing all of you a good night's rest.

Bump up and Good Morning. Headed to the shore today with my mom and 2 nephews. Wish me luck. My mom and I have at least one argument every time we are in a car together for a couple of hours. Since I am driving I can't escape LOL.

Have a good day everyone.

Good sunny Friday morning everyone! @tazdev3225--glad you finally were able to get your hubby's shoes, they sure didn't make it easy for you! Have a great time at the shore, hope you can keep the arguments to a minimum!

Going to be another 75 degree sunny day. The grass has gotten so tall since that rain, and then the sun, and I don't have the energy to cut it. I wish there were some teenage kids around here willing to make a few bucks and do it. Guess I will have to do it in sections until this cold of mine leaves. I did get a few hours sleep last nite, which helped, but I feel like I could just sleep all day long. At least only PT is coming today, so I don't have to do anything while she's here.

Have a great Friday and a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Since you're :drive: , you can pull over, shut off the car and get out the door. LOL
When DH was about 17, he was driving his mom somewhere (she did not drive, never learned), and she kept picking at him about how he was driving, how fast, etc. He pulled over in the middle of the street (small town, one stoplight that was put in around 1985), got out and told her to move over and drive. She never bothered him about his driving again.

I'm running out the trash and running up to Publix. Going to get the stuff to make subs for lunch.

First world problem: I had a mental breakdown last night. DH was supersweet and bought me a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, for our anniversary. (I feel like crap because I didn't buy him anything..and we had agreed to not do so this year...). DS was a pill all morning; I started 'spotting' and cramping. Since the watch just came out like 2 weeks ago, there are bugs and not much info on how to do things. I literally broke down sobbing because I couldn't play my Amazon music on there unless I downloaded them to a third party app that would format them into the format for Samsung; so I had to get on Spotify, and upgrade to a premium account (3 months free, so I have that time to switch my songs about)....and I struggled getting it on the watch and playing through my headphones...it kept playing through my phone! Then I had to reset the watch because it stopped connecting with the phone and wouldn't do anything...and then...I had to do all of the setup and figuring out Spotify again. And after DS's stuff that morning, lack of sleep, hungry but couldn't find the ooomph to eat, and the watch...I just lost it. DH tried, he really did; it was just an all around bad day for me, except for him being so sweet. A good night's sleep, and I'm doing better...but I am wearing my nice "cat lady" shirt and Maleficient earrings to pick me up.

Anyways....going to be hot and muggy so I need to get moving. Y'all have a good day.

It might not hurt to call the high school. The guidance counselors may know of someone who is looking, or the kids may even have a community service requirement that it would count toward.

Happy Friday

Working from home so it's definitely a happy day for me! I already cleaned my house. Such a nice day out today, I'll cut my grass after I'm done working. During lunch I'm going to run up to the hardware store. My son left some end tables that he started sanding to stain before he moved but didn't finish so I'm going to finish staining those. Need to get some sandpaper for my sander to finish the legs on the tables.

Dinner isn't anything special, just making some steak hoagys. DS went to make them last night and realized that I forgot the cheese so I'll have to stop at the store after the hardware store trip.

That's my day, everyone have a good day. :flower:
