Thread bump time!

:hug:AuntieMe3. Glad your DH and DD got back safely. Lol, I now always copy into Word all posts above me (when there are many) and reply that way one by one before "pasting" my reply to all on here. "Old fashioned" perhaps but it works :) Enjoy some down time back on the road!

I hope all of you are having a good afternoon!

I also have an appt. with a dietitian, am considering weight loss surgery, anyone here have any experience they'd like to share. I thought I would be considered too old (62) but the doctor said no, it is fairly common. I'm very unsure about it, been doing a bit of research, which actually confuses me more.
I have a couple of friends plus my sister who have gone through the weight loss surgeries. One friend, had the lap band. It has worked for her but I have also been present where she ends up throwing up when she overeats. She has gained a little weight back but she has been able to mostly keep her weight down.
Another friend had it done more for medical reasons. This friend has lost weight and has been able to keep it off but she is on a very strict diet now, since the surgery she has found that certain types of food bother her and her medical issues haven't really left so I don't know if the gastric sleeve was necessary.
A male friend had a gastric sleeve done so he could lose weight to have back surgery and has lost quite a bit of weight. He still has more to lose but he will probably choose to stay at the weight that he currently is at. He enjoys eating and while he can't eat a whole lot at one sitting, he eats more smaller meals a day.
And my sister had an inverted gastric sleeve done due to health issues, hip, knee and feet pain due to her weight. She lost about 60 pounds and has gained almost 30 back. She eats out a lot which I think is what has caused the weight to return. She lost her appetite with the surgery plus some things don't taste good anymore to her. She eats small portions but they are mostly fatty foods.
Just as with a diet, you have to change your eating habits to keep the weight off. The surgery/procedure is not a cure all by any means.

Happy Tuesday. Hope everyone is doing well.

Today is a beautiful but very warm day. We played outside with parachute guys frisbees and baseball. Younger DS and family left today. I admit I cried a bit after they left as I really miss them. 5 grandkids running around was fun chaos. Older Ds and family are here until Thurs. We may go home Fri instead of Sat. This year I just miss the grandkids too much. I will admit to being a bit down and stressed this year but it has been a tough year.

I hope Mr. L is getting stronger and feeling better.

I know one person who had the gastric sleeve surgery. She initially lost some weight, maybe 30 pounds, but then stabilized. I lost alot of weight with exercise and following a meditarranean type of diet. I don't lose quickly but it is something I can live with. I have gained about 5 pounds lately due to stress eating. After my vacation it is time to get back on track. I need to be consistent and keep the snacks out of the house.

I'm looking forward to seeing some new shows this Fall. PBS has a couple that are coming back for their next season.

Good news today! The little boy that was causing so much trouble in Lil Joe's class is gone. I don't know if the school gave him the boot or if he parents took him out or a combination of both but his teacher has had two really good days now. Lil Joe's classmates are relieved that they don't have to worry about whether or not they were going to get punched anymore, his teacher included.

Dinner tonight was spaghetti, garlic toast and steamed broccoli.

Hi to all. I am behind for sure in reading/keeping up.
I continue to pray and send good thoughts to all of the Quacker family members who are struggling with issues…no matter what they may be.
School started here yesterday. Overall the first two days have gone well. We are all going to be dragging though by Friday, just always such a long first week back ”at it”.
We have had more heat this week and a tiny bit of much needed rain.
tried a new to me crockpot chicken thigh recipe tonight andit actually turned out pretty well. Do many of you use a crock pot? And, for the record, I have yet to get my air fry oven out of the box…:rolleyes1

 I get it. I was pretty good during the early part of the lockdown. I had my moments/days (as I know we all did) but I still found energy to make the best of things fairly often. Then life got more normal for a while, and I got my hopes up, and now that everything is so complicated and up in the air again, I'm having a harder time mustering motivation.

Excellent! I do hope they find the right placement for the little boy, but it definitely wasn't one that took an appropriate school experience away from several other students.

Do many of you use a crock pot?

I love my crock pots!! (I have a big one and a little one.) I tend to use them more in the cooler weather, as we grill a lot in summer, but they're so convenient! Plus, I feel like have a lot more energy and creativity to put into cooking in the morning than I do in the late afternoon.

Good Morning everyone

Yesterday was my oldest grandson Jay's birthday, he is the child that made me a grandmom. I still remember his birth like it was yesterday. I was in Manassas VA picking up my girls from my brother's house. They had spent a few days down there with their cousins. Little did I know that was to be the last regular contact with them since my brother decided my son was a bad influence. And yes it still hurts that he did that, My son turned out to be a great dad even at the tender age of 16. Anyway I had to get through DC rush hour traffic, a monsoon (it rained so hard I had to keep pulling over), being stuck in the tunnel at Baltimore and a major panic attack, finally getting home. The normal approximately 4 hr. trip took over 5 -5 1/2 hours. Grabbed a shower and was at the hospital in time to hand off the camera and be there in time for the birth. It is so hard to believe he is now a grown man with a baby of his own. This is one of my favorite pics of him when he was born. It was taken the day he came home from the hospital in the same outfit his father came home in. He was already clutching a baseball.

Not much on the agenda today. I was supposed to be heading to Lancaster but everyone backed out. I'll just alter my plans I am heading out later today to get a few things at Boscov's, a local department store, they do have some great bargains now and again. I'm hoping to find some things on clearance to get for the cruise next year. The 2 little guys have a football scrimmage tonight so I'll go watch that for a bit. I hate them playing in this heat. My daughter sent a picture of Benny and he was sweating so bad his shirt was soaked. To be fair he even sweats a lot in the winter but I worry about heat exhaustion.

To answer the question about Crock Pots - I use mine all of the time, I LOVE it. I actually have two but one is always on the counter. I love it in the summer because it cuts down on the heat generated in the kitchen and in the winter I make a lot of stews and chili's. My go to in the summer is pork. Put the boneless chops in it in layers seasoned with some pepper and garlic, then toss a bottle of barbecue sauce in. Half are eaten that night and the other half gets made into pulled pork for sandwiches.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I use my crockpot to make chili, soups, stews, pork, and sometimes a roast. I like the cast iron pan better for roasts and braised short ribs, though. I don't have an actual air fryer; I have a tabletop oven with an air fry setting (along with pizza, toast, bake, roast, warm and .....?) and I use it all the time to do fries, veggies, fish, etc. I have an instant pot and it gets used maybe once every couple of months...it sucks as a crockpot (as the only heat is from the bottom, not all the way around) and I think it makes the texture of the meat weird; it is useful for making rice, though!

Today, I am cleaning house this morning (ugh...bathrooms, litter box...you know, the fun stuff). Still need to wash the towels, lol. Mixing up the pasta salad when I'm off here.

RE the snacks: the chocolate bourbon fudge was really good! It had a very strong scent of bourbon but just a little taste, and it wasn't overly sweet like some fudges are. The fruitcake from there was..ok. It was very strong tasting of clove and dates, neither of which are favorites of mine. We're going to try toasting a piece in butter to see if that makes a difference. But I will admit, it's better tasting than any of the others we've tried so far.

DH is feeling much better. It must have been something he ate or a quick 24 hour bug (no idea where it came from, if it was a bug!).

This weekend, I think I'll make some oatmeal cinnamon chip cookies, or 'everything chocolate chip' cookies (I have salted caramel chips and fudge truffle chips in the freezer I need to use up, so I'll toss them in there). I haven't made cookies in forever!

Y'all have a good day!

Good morning. I love my crock pot for soups and stews in the cooler months. I get at least 2 meals from each crock pot dinner. I make chicken enchilada soup, beef stew, salsa chicken, and chicken bean soup. I just dump in ingredients and hope for the best.

Sunny cool day in northern NH today. The 2 grandsons still here are going on a hike with mom and dad. I may take a walk around the condo complex.

Have a great day.

Good morning all. I am later than usual..even late for me, lol. I didn't sleep well again last nite. From 10-1:30 soundly. Then awake till almost 3:30 when I gave up and got up. My back ached, my head ached, and I was all stuffed up. Hubby was sound asleep in his chair, so I just stayed in the bedroom laying in the dark till then. Went back to bed at 5:30, still couldn't sleep. Finally fell asleep at 6:47 and woke up at 8:09. I need a nap already. Took the trash out, fed the cats, got hubby his pills and breakfast. Only OT coming today , so it should be quiet.

We have 3 crockpots, a big oval one, a big round one, and an old original 4 quart one. I use it a lot in the winter, but not much in the summer.

mid 90's again today..plan on staying inside and dusting and vacuuming in. Did the litterboxes last nite. Will also clean both bathrooms and do laundry if I get enough energy

Have a nice day fellow QUACKers

Big hug, Snowysmom. It has been a hard year for you, my friend :( I am so glad you got have some outdoor fun with your grandkids!

I am also hoping for some new Fall TV choices, Kirby! Prayers for the little boy and am glad Lil Joe will no longer have to be concerned about his safety at school. So sad the whole thing :(

Hug to you as well, Frog. I think the first week back at anything after a long break is hard! I know in years past when I was able (and enjoyed) traveling, often I felt I needed a vacation from my just taken vacation upon coming home! I am so glad your first two days have gone well. Cheering you all on :)

PollyannaMom, prayers and hug to you always, my friend. These days are for sure uncertain once more indeed. Remember always you (and all Quacker family) that we are here and so care!

Aw, precious baby Jay! Happy belated Birthday to him, Taz!

Will you make me some plain chocolate chip, B&B? :D Happy you enjoyed your treats!

What a cute and colorful morning greeting, Lynn, thank you, my friend. Prayers you do have a quiet good day!

:grouphug: to all! I will check back later.

Another boring day at work :( . Oh well, almost lunch time so that will eat away a little time.

Regarding the crockpot question, I love mine. I use it quite a bit. I love to make Mississippi Roast, Chicken Salsa, enchilada dish, and definitely chicken and dumplings.

Not much else going on today, very, very hot outside so I won't be taking my lunch out there. Have a good day!

When you have the time,,could you explain what Mississippi Roast is please? Thanks!

Good Morning every one!
I sure wish we could get some of that lovely rain every one else seems to be getting! right now our state is on fire and have only had 2 days of rain this whole year. I HATE SUMMER! we are turning into a dessert and there's not a thing we can do about it. Today isn't so bad as far as smoke and heat....only forecast to be 90 but it's going up. Thursday - Monday 95, 101, 103,102 and 100.
I am glad Starbucks has come out with their Fall drinks though, at least I can fool myself into thinking fall is coming right? lol I tried the Apple crisp macchiato but took out the Apple sauce and added caramel....SO GOOD! in my opinion, more caramel is always better and the Pumpkin scone is delicious.
We are about 57 days out from our Disneyworld trip....getting really excited! can't say I'm not a little worried about the CV but we are fully vaccinated and will take every precaution. Anyone else out there got some fun things planned? we've been planning this trip for 3 years for just my DH of 42 years and I so we are going to be doing our best to have a good time.
Well, I guess it's back to dusting....maybe trying on some clothes I want to take on my trip (see if they still fit! lol) and that's about it!
Every one out there have a FANTASTIC day! stay SAFE and HEALTHY! HUGS!:tigger::wave2:

Just as with a diet, you have to change your eating habits to keep the weight off. The surgery/procedure is not a cure all by any means.
Absolutely....I'm a snacker so eating small amount at one time isn't a problem for me. I can snack a ton, not healthy food and it's just as bad as me eating huge meals. So happy Lil Joe doesn't have to worry about the other boy in class. Sad to say in my daycare we had a little boy like that it and his parents couldnt really care any less. My boss liked the mom and knew they wouldn't be able to stay in any other place so we dealt with it but it was rough on everyone.

I will admit to being a bit down and stressed this year but it has been a tough year.
I feel like I'm more stressed and worried right now than I was last year. I saw a meme or quote or comment saying something about feeling worse right now because we(the world not, we personally) are better off with the tools to make things better but people aren't using them....something like that. I wish I would've got a screenshot of it because I think that's what I'm feeling. I don't want to say hopeless but helpless, I guess.

Do many of you use a crock pot? And, for the record, I have yet to get my air fry oven out of the box…:rolleyes1
I do but usually only during the winter months. I make chicken tortilla soap, chicken and dumplings and there used to be at WalMart, crockpot meal bags, you just dump in the crockpot and it has everything you need in there. We really liked them but haven't seen them in awhile so they may not have them anymore. I'm a very last minute kind of person so sometimesI forgot I wanted to put something in the crockpot so by then it's too late to do it for dinner.

The fruitcake from there was..ok. It was very strong tasting of clove and dates, neither of which are favorites of mine. We're going to try toasting a piece in butter to see if that makes a difference. But I will admit, it's better tasting than any of the others we've tried so far.
I may have missed it but why are you trying different fruit cakes?? LOL Is it just to try them? I have never had it myself personally so I should probably try some. Glad your hubby is feeling better.

So DH just found out he will be going to Scotland and Italy next month for work. He asked if I wanted to go with him but I'm not sure if I will. It's just a short amount of time and I know he'll be going for a longer time period later on so maybe I'll wait and go then. Other than that nothing else coming up beside DD and I going to the Halloween party at Disneyland in a couple weeks. That will work fun.

Forgot my update....DH was tossing and turning all night last night so I ended sleeping terrible too. Right after he left for work I was just falling into a good sleep when DD called to ask me about something....ugh. Hoping I'll sleep good tonight since I'm already tired.

We got some potentially bad news about some family friends and it's stressing me out. I know if my mom was here she would know exactly what to do or say to help these friend so it's upsetting seeing these people act foolishly right now. So if you don't mind please pray for our friends that they listen to those trying to help them. Sorry to be vague but I don't want to share to much of their personal business.

@AuntieMe3 prayers said for your friends,,I hope they listen and get the help they need

Its 93 outside, feels like 99. Just had to go out and water the garden and flowers and plants again. Slight chance of rain tonite..then nothing until next week, when the temps will drop to low 80's, can't wait!

OT came today,,she will be back Tuesday with her supervisor, who will do the reevaluation and most likely give him another month of OT. PT will be doing the same. Mr L finally realizes that he IS making progress, that he can stand for longer periods of time, that his legs feel stronger, his arm doesn't hurt nearly as much, etc. Tomorrow PT is going to see if he can get in and out of bed..I hope that helps him sleep more comfortably at night, because I know that I need to sleep better too

Have a nice evening everyone

That makes sense. At this time last year, we were all looking forward to the vaccines, hoping they would end the pandemic for good. Now we're seeing numbers go backward instead of forward. Hope is a powerful force for good, and the lack of it right now is definitely affecting people.

I also think there's some decision fatigue involved. I noticed when grocery shopping this morning that about half the people were wearing masks - which meant everyone had evaluated the situation based on their own status and risk and made different decisions (different from each other, and also maybe different from themselves at other times.) --- But that means effort, and thought, and worry each time we go anywhere. It was easier for me when it was mandatory - it was just a habit, so even though I wore masks more, I actually thought about it less.
