Morning....i think this was asked before, but it’s been a few months

QOTD: what is your favorite summer fruit ?

that is reallly tough for me, I lover fruit thanks to my mom who made weekly trips to a local fruit store while I was growing up
rasberries - on my oatmeal, as jam, and of course with chocolate in a dessert
followed by strawberries , so delicious Plant city, Florida is a wonderful place to visit in early March for their strawberry festival

Good day to you all! I've missed a few days, tried to keep up but can't recall everything, so hugs & smiles to all.

Had a good weekend, my car didn't move at all since I parked it Friday afternoon until this morning :thumbsup2 I got a lot done Saturday, mowed the fields, got the yard mowed, pulled some weeds, and watered all the trees. Still made time to stop that afternoon and just chill out and enjoy my book. Kids got some snakehead Friday night, so we had that for dinner Saturday. Sunday was more of the same, made breakfast, took care of a few chores, helped youngest unload some of his furniture, and read. Made coleslaw and salsa out of some of the fruit & vegetables youngest's girlfriend sent over. I am concerned I'll never get thru it all! Made mango salsa w/ one of the mangos which I haven't made in a while. Will have that with dinner tonight. Was able to toss in a fresh jalapeno that was ready in our garden, too.

QOTD - Summer Fruit

Honestly, I don't have a favorite. I dislike strawberries and very much dislike cherries! Odd, I know. I like watermelon, although I don't grow it anymore. So I guess I'd say that.

Our new shed gets delivered tomorrow - or should I say the dogs new shed! I doubt they'll use it much in the summer but this fall & winter they will. We are putting it under the porch - our house is on a hill, so we have a walkout basement under the wrap around porch which we have done in pavers, it stays cool in summer and warm(er) in winter because it holds the heat from the sun. I promised the dogs I'd pick up some new dog beds for the shed so I'll stop at Home Goods/Marshalls this evening after my nail appt. and hopefully find some there. They usually have a great selection of dog stuff and bigger dog beds at great prices.

Husband and eldest going bowfishing this evening. I predict a quiet night on the porch for moi! Maybe I'll be able to finish the book I started Saturday afternoon!

Good morning.

DH left at 8:30 for jury duty. DD looked at the court docket and said it was pretty full. No telling if he'll be home at 11 or at dinner time. I am doing laundry and other chores.

I decided to give Weight Watchers another try. I need to do something, I've got a wedding to buy an outfit for next year.
I have followed WW for years. Even though I am still at goal, I am creeping up and need to get back on track for DNiece's wedding in September. Maybe we can be support for each other, And DD follows too. She's lost more that 25 pounds of post baby weight since January, also for the wedding.

QOTD: what is your favorite summer fruit ?
I'm not sure I have a favorite. I like what's in season. I brought home cherries and DH brought home strawberries. I have a lot of special desserts I make once a year when that fruit is in season - strawberry shortcake, peach cake, an apple cake.

enjoy my book
What are you reading?

Well- the question was asked so I answered!

I’m finding it fascinating actually- written by a MD who goes on to debunk presumed situations in history with medical facts, and about his work with Priests who bring people to him in order to help them & their families that their issues may be medically explained.
I like reading across a wide variety of subjects with no rhyme or reason 🤣
I can come out of Barnes & Noble with a pile of books that are all different genres!

Happy Monday!

Today would have been my Grandpa's 104th birthday. I believe he and Grandma are celebrating in Heaven.

Big hug, AuntieMe3. It is never easy to lose someone you love. I am so glad your niece brought you much cheer.

Welcome Home, Carol. Lol and Carter is only a young toddler now in terms of being able to eat a whole lot. I hope all goes smoothly for your DH at Jury Duty.

Hug, DazedX3. You keep cool! Are you able to install a window A/C? They do work well.

How cool about the turtle, Kirby. I’m glad you had a good Sunday school teacher! That is another thing I’d love to experience at a worship service: that it was much more Bible lesson for the day connected. I have both heard from friends about their own churches and read in books accounts of worship were the first part of the service is children (going to Sunday school) and adults in the Sanctuary or classroom listening to and participating in a related Bible lesson of their own. Followed by everyone gathering for a brief sermon, music, and communion. Connection all-around.

Hug, Lynn, sorry about your DH keeping you up. I hope you will relax today. Muggy weather is the worst! Good day to stay inside and cool, have an ice cream treat. Always makes me smile to see a “Hunny” pot. I’m not a “honey” food person but sure do appreciate Pooh.

Thanks for asking the QOTD Sparkle: What is your favorite summer fruit ? Strawberries sprinkled with a dash of either white or brown sugar!

Easyas, that’s great you had a quiet weekend! Porch reading still sounds so relaxing to me. Enjoy a good book! Reading is indeed so important. I love what Carol said about the library having many sections of book choices.

Hugs to all!

I cannot believe we were freezing just a week ago. It is AWFUL here. We're supposed to hit 94 today, and when I was outside with Josh waiting for the bus, the air was already hot soup-humid. The kids are getting out early today, since the schools don't have AC and they're not allowed to run fans right now, and the kids still have to wear masks.

And speaking of masks, the girl next door who has been taking the bus with Josh for the past week...she missed it this morning, and my mom went over to see if they knew. The girl woke up today coughing and with a fever, so her mother is taking her for a rapid test and will let us know what happens. I'm worried, of course. They never really got too close to each other while out in our driveway, and they had masks on while on the bus, but who knows... :(

Good news, though - Josh finally has a loose tooth! Even his dentist thought he'd start losing them early, as he had 2 teeth at 2 months and 5 teeth at 4 months. But he's one of the last in his class to start. Guess we need to put the tooth fairy on alert now ;)

I have a pet and recliner story as well. When we first got Tara, a cocker spaniel, she was a tiny little thing, only 8 or 9 lbs. at 11 weeks old. She could sit in the palm of my hand, she was so small. 2 days after we brought her home, my mom and I were just finishing up our shopping at Caldor's when we got paged. At the service desk, Gram had called the store to find us, in a panic because she'd gotten up to go to the bathroom and when she came back, Tara was gone. She'd been laying in front of the unlocked patio door, so Gram truly thought she'd been stolen. We got home quickly and my mother didn't know what to do, so she called the police. I took off running up and down the street, crying and yelling for her - like she knew her name after only 2 days, right? I didn't find her, so I headed back home, and there was my mother on the side lawn, waving to me to come back. The animal control officer was in the house, I think trying not to laugh, and my poor grandmother looked like she wanted to crawl into a very deep hole and not come out. The story was that when the officer arrived and they told him what happened, Gram was sitting in her recliner, and he immediately said, "Ma'am, could you please stand up?" She did, and he slowly turned the chair over, and there was the dog, curled up underneath it. We all felt like idiots, but the officer just smiled and said we weren't the first to call for that. Funny that she NEVER went underneath another chair again after that ;)

Those fried pickles are mouthwatering! If anyone is familiar with the Steaming Tender restaurant in Palmer, MA - they have some of the best fried pickles I've ever had! My MIL is anxious to go there, so maybe I'll get some soon!

QOTD, favorite summer fruit...well, ALL the fruit. Or most of it, anyway ;) (not a big fan of grapes). I love having all the berries, especially strawberries right now. Cherries are coming in and soon the grocery stores will have coupons to get them for $2-$3 a pound (I'm not paying $6 a pound for them, no matter how much I like them). I've got some ripe peaches calling my name in the kitchen. We also usually have watermelon with our dinner in the summer...sweet, juicy, bright red watermelon, so good. I think I saw that one of our stores has whole pineapples for $1 this week, too - kind of a pain to cut up, but it seriously tastes so much better than the pre-cut pineapple.

I'm hungry now.

@easyas123 - I think the book sounds rather interesting. I have a very eclectic taste in books and music so I may add it to my list of one day books. Or if it shows up free on Kindle. I read a lot from there.

@APirate'sLifeforME - Prayers that Josh wasn't exposed and the little girl just has a normal summer cold. Recliners and pets really are fun. Your story reminded me of when my nephew disappeared from the housing while my brother was stationed in Germany. They had the MP's out and everyone was searching the base. My nephew, who was about 2 at the time, was found sound asleep curled up under the desk in my brother's study.

QOTD I love melons in the summer, nice and cold from the fridge. They are so refreshing. Early summer, this time period, I love strawberries but they have to have sugar on them. When I was very young, and my grandfather was still alive, we lived with my grandparents and then around the corner from them. My grandparents owned a bakery and this was strawberry shortcake season. My grandfather would give me a nice juicy strawberry, pick me up and hold me by my feet while he lowered me into the 500 pound sugar container so I could dip my strawberry in the sugar. It's the only way I can eat them now.

I don't really like peaches because of the skin. Only like red grapes because they tend to be sweeter and Blueberries if I am in the mood but give me a nice cold piece of watermelon or cantaloupe and I am in heaven. I love our trips to Lancaster in the late summer because I can get cantaloupes just picked from the farm. That is pure heaven.

Hot day here today. The boys had a half day with exams this week. Two more days and I am done getting up early for the summer. YAY!!! Hope everyone in the path of this heat stays cool.

one of our stores has whole pineapples for $1 this week, too - kind of a pain to cut up, but it seriously tastes so much better than the pre-cut pineapple.
I broke down and bought a pineapple cutter/corer tool when they were on sale at WW, similar to this one. Game changer. So much easier and quicker.

Oh no, our thread was 3rd to the bottom!

Dad's Father's Day teddy bear surprise just came--very soft and cute with a friendly smile. I'd definitely recommend it to any of you wanting to get someone a personalized bear on Amazon.

Weather is still cold and darkish out. Dad said it misted for a few minutes this morning. Rest of the week, especially toward the weekend, is expected sunny and bright.

Wishing all of you a Good Evening and AuntieMe3, still a Good Afternoon :)

I'm about to re-read The Help.

Great book!

I like reading across a wide variety of subjects with no rhyme or reason 🤣

Me too!

Good news, though - Josh finally has a loose tooth! Even his dentist thought he'd start losing them early, as he had 2 teeth at 2 months and 5 teeth at 4 months. But he's one of the last in his class to start. Guess we need to put the tooth fairy on alert now ;)

Such a fun time!

I wouldn't worry about being on the late side of his class. Of the two kindergarteners I work with, one has lost two teeth and has another wiggler, and the other hasn't had any loose ones at all.

QOTD Answer: I love fruit!! Mango is probably my "favorite" right now, but I also really love strawberries (no sugar needed) apples (bought Pink Ladies just today) and kiwi. I'm not overly fond of melon (except watermelon, which I love) but I will eat them.

Thanks for the support. My mom's best friend called me today to talk and we both had a cry about how much we miss talking to her. :sad1: Her friend and I talked to her on the phone everyday, all day(and see her almost everyday too...I live on the same street as my parents and her friend is just two blocks away)...so it's hard getting used to not being able to call her to tell her something. I told her she could call me anytime, I might not have my mom's wise words but it might help the both of us.

QOTD: what is your favorite summer fruit ?

I LOVE apricots....OMGosh I love them. My former boss has a tree and when they are ripe, I could just eat one right after another. Never buy them in the store though because they never taste the same as straight from the tree.

I also love mangos and watermelon. I really like strawberries but I might be a little allergic. My tongue feels like I've been eating a pineapple all day if I eat more than one. LOL

And for all of you dealing with the cicadas, I saw a post on FB about restaurants coming up with recipes using them....:crazy2: one was cicada tacos. OMG That is definitely one taco I would NOT be eating....

Good morning everyone. Its like a steambath outside. It rained overnite, the temp is 70, the humidity and dew point are high. We both woke up with headaches, maybe because they are predicting storms today. Just turned the ac back down to 72 to see if that helps us.

As to the cicada's,,no thank you to any recipe which requires eating them. My brother in law has been feeding them to his chickens, he said they love them, but he's having a hard time finding enough to give them. I told him to bring a truck here, there are thousands. And this morning, for the first time,,they are making their noise while it's still light out. I hope they are almost done and ready to depart for another 17 years.

Have a nice morning, stay cool!

AuntieMe3, hugs. It’s so hard. I’m really glad you and your Mom’s best friend have eachother for support. I understand what you mean, though. My mother lived with me, and I go into her apt all the time as it’s part of my house. It’s hard with her not being here when she was here for so long, and using her things (I use her washer and dryer daily), etc. In some ways it’s comforting, yet there’s this void there, too. A mixed bag. Thinking of you. :flower3:

QOTD: I love most fruits. We always keep lots of fresh fruit on hand and I have it for breakfast, take it to work, have it if I want something sweet, etc. So (not all at once, but) melons, pineapple, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, bananas, grapes, apples, oranges :lovestruc , cutie oranges, pears, nectarines in season, cherries (DH :lovestruc), watermelon, etc. I like mango but I’m the only one who eats it so I don’t buy a lot. (Aldi’s has a container of it already peeled and I sometimes buy that and treat myself.) Kiwi once in a while. I love grapefruit but don’t like peeling it, so I buy the big container of already peeled, unsweetened grapefruit. (If you have trouble going to the bathroom, get that! Lol) If I am out and want something I like buying fresh fruit if available. Love it in yogurt with a little granola or on a salad. Thanks for reminding me, I need to replenish our fruit supply!

Our fresh garden lettuce surprised me again last night, we got enough to make a big salad, and it was delicious! I think it‘s turning out to be one of my favorite things I’ve ever planted!

Circadia tacos made me feel a little sick, lol.

Have a good day, everyone!

Good day one and all. Another day in hot & humid paradise here in MD.
Chance of possible scattered T-storms or rain today, but I'm not holding my breath and will plan on watering the trees later this evening. First tomato is on in the garden, so the official 2021 Tomato Watch is on! Already pulled about 5 jalapenos.
I'm expecting the dogs' new shed today..."between 6 AM & 6 PM"! Well...supposedly the delivery driver will notify us when he/she is about 30 minutes away. We will see...I told my husband if it doesn't show up at 6AM I'd bet we don't see it until after 6PM, as I'm guessing we are going to be on the end of the delivery loop. Still - I can be wrong I guess so we will see how the day unfolds.
I took some chops out of the freezer and have them marinating for dinner tonight, will have with a salad. Husband is on hay watch for his uncles farm in western MD, once the hay is ready he'll go up to help cut a time or three over the course of the season.
I need to run to the bank, I think I'll take care of that chore now so I can get it out of the way. Have a good morning everyone!
