QOTD.... I love all flowers but, my favorites are Iris, Peony, and Ranunculus.. My sisters and I used to have a perennial plant sale for two weekends every spring. We sold about 5,000 plants each year. It was a lot of work but very rewarding, we can no longer do the work. We grew and propagated all the plants in our own gardens, then potted them up to sell. We started it as a way to fund our Disney trips.

Good morning.

What a timely QOTD. We have a landscaper here today digging out the azaleas from the front of the house. I love azaleas but these were not doing well and overgrown with other plants. We have bad soil.

QOTD: favorite flower and why ?
I like lots of flowers. I think I like daffodils the most as they symbolize spring and rebirth. I also like zinnias in my garden because they are easy to grow and cut and very colorful. Sunflowers are beautiful also.

QOTD: favorite flower and why ?

Good question, and very appropriate as we start to dip our toes into spring! I think it's the gladiolus and day lilies outside, and for cut flowers calla lilies or tulips. Something about tulips & hyacinths make me feel like spring is really upon us. In the late summer I always add some more mums to the landscaping so that we have lots of fall color, and I usually plant sunflowers at the back of the field behind the house, we enjoy seeing them from the porch.

Good morning all, I think I've missed a few posts here and there over the weekend - I remember a new baby though, so congrats to that family!

Dropped off my car for new tires this morning, hope they are done by mid day or so, I've got running around to do later this afternoon. My fence guy emailed me that the fence will be in later this week, so hopefully they'll be able to install it next week. Husband and I hiked up to Lowes and got some supplies for the porch gates he is going to put together, so I'm glad it's coming together. Once we get a half decent weekend temp wise I think we will tackle the power washing that needs to be done...I can feel my shoulders aching already :rotfl:

Got the roaster I was defrosting in the crockpot this morning, I'll try to get 2 or 3 meals out of it. Husband has requested chicken & rice soup.

BIL & niece are coming over on Saturday so we thought we'd have a cookout of sorts down by the creek at our fire pit. Not sure exaction what but looks like s'more will be on the menu, which means I'll have 3/4 of a bag of marshmallows to move around the snack drawer for the next few months!

Have a good day all -

Good Morning, Everyone :)

Continue to feel better, Lynn you and your DH.

QOTD: favorite flower and why ? Light pink carnations that are budding are my very favorite flower. Spring is my very favorite season (though yes, Christmas is my favorite time of the year). Spring soon leads to Easter a time for me of true renewal and rejoicing deeper in God. In normal years, my church's Easter Sunrise service is so special to me. To literally watch and feel the sun rise in the early morning hour as within all our hearts present, Jesus rises anew, is precious. Carnations, I am just now thinking about, in their light pink color sort of have that sunlight breaking through them feel to me.

I do also like tulips, impatiens will always be special to me because those are what Dad and I once planted in Champ's memorial garden, and wildflowers in general.

Hug and Happy Monday to All.

Morning All - It was really cold here this morning but is warming up a bit. By the end of the week it should be in the 60's. I can't wait.

I bit the bullet and my old car is being towed away as I type. I actually had my mom "Yell" at me because I was so emotional over a car!!! She reminded me again that my aunt was not the nicest person and this was just a CAR that didn't even run. As much as my mom and I can butt heads she has a way of putting things in perspective for me. I am also getting $400 for a car that doesn't run so that is nice, and I will have my whole driveway back. I will miss the car next winter when we get snow as I had much less to shovel.

I am still trying to figure out where to put things back in the kitchen and do need the countertops installed for everything to go back. I have more cabinet space but different types so we will see.

QOTD: I have several favorites. I have always loved carnations. I have a Bleeding Heart I planted several years ago in honor of my Grandmother and when it blooms I think of her, it was her favorite flower. I have Tiger Lilies that bloom in June that make me know that the summer is coming. They take up my upper garden in June and contrary to what a neighbor said they are not weeds. I do like to plant a variety of flowers in my lower garden to attract butterflies every year that complement my Butterfly Bush.

Well have a good day everyone

@Breezy_Carol, let us know if you liked the book. I'm always looking for a new one to read.

@sparkle78, several years ago my neighbor's chickens scratched deep holes in my flower beds just a couple of weeks after I had planted a variety of bulbs. The holes were deep enough for them to sit in up to half of their body. Some of my bulbs must have been traumatized because they didn't appear as plants/flowers for a couple of years. And they were scattered around in places that I know I didn't plant them. 😄

QOTD: favorite flower and why ?
Mums come first to mind then carnations. I love the different colors mums come come in and the different varieties. When my grandmother would receive a flower arrangement with mums in it, she would plant the mums in her yard. They would faithfully come up year after year. Peppermint carnations was the first flower that DH gave me when we were dating. Daffodils are a favorite also because they are the first to pop up in my flower beds bringing joy and hope of Spring after the Winter.

What a morning this has been. I woke up feeling okay then have had bouts of dry heaving for the last three hours. I'm okay right now but I just don't know what the problem could be. My throat has been scratchy/sore since Saturday too. Hopefully its just my GERD bothering me. I have a med check tomorrow. Going to give it a couple more hours and then contact my doctor to see if she still wants me to come in or reschedule.

My favorite flowers are daisies and sunflowers. My mother grew sunflowers when I was young and they were beautiful. They remind me of her. Daisies remind me of my grandmother as we would walk near the woods and see them. I also like tulips and lilacs as a sign of spring.

Bear with me DIS QUACK'ers..as I am a little freaked out. Last nite Stepdaughter messaged and asked if her Dad was going to get the vaccine. I said he's on the list and asked why she was asking. Seems that a guy who graduated with both of hubby's sons , who had COPD (which hubby has), got it on Thursday, by Friday night at 6 pm he was on life support and died. That scared me..as we know the guys wife, she's the one who took care of us at the eye Drs. So right now I am even more freaked out, as hubby just now got a call from the hospital saying he was on the list for the vaccine, and they have appts available on Thursday. You have to park in the parking garage..then have someone (in his case because he needs one of their transport chairs, can't walk all the way to the auditorium), bring you in. Its the Moderma one. I can't remember who on this thread said they had it or someone in their family had it, and if there were any after effects/side effects from it. Am I panicking unnecessarily??? If so..someone talk me down !

Lynn, I would talk to your family doctor. He/she would know best. I would think that the reaction is not the norm or the vaccine would not have been approved. DH, DD, and I all had Moderna. DD had both and did have a little flu like reaction. DH had both and no reaction. I had only a sore arm and get the second on Wednesday.

DDIL has Cystic fibrosis and will be getting the vaccine as soon as she can. I can see why you would be freaked out but I wonder if something else was going on. My personal opinion is that the benefits outweigh the risks.

Hope this helps you to think with your head and not your heart. It is a hard decision.

Assuming you want it, I am not interested in talking anyone into or out of the vaccine.

Yes, obviously if you have health issues consult with your Dr., but assuming all is well go for it.
I have a lung disease, too. I've actually been eligible for quite some time, but only just recently got it. I figured I'd lived this long w/o getting it and I'm young and I'll let the older folks take a crack at it first. I've been on two different lists, and I've also hunted around for it. Ironically enough I secured an appointment for myself at a Walgreens the same day the folks from the list called me, so once I was able to sign up via the list I canceled the Walgreens appointment.
My Dr. highly suggested I get it -

So I'm in the Go For It camp!

I just came across this article, I think Lynxstch mentioned Cicadas? Here ya go:crazy2:

So in other news, my Mother turns 70 next week, so my brothers & I thought we'd send her a cake. Except - in all our years it has just occurred to us that we have no idea what kind of cake my Mother likes! Sure, yeah we've seen her have cake at various events thru the years, and ye old white/yellow cake w/ chocolate icing we all the norm for our b'days growing up. I would text her & ask her, but I sort of wanted the cake to be a surprise - should we guess or should I ask her? I mean, I know generally speaking what she likes and can easily pick out a cake I'm sure she'd enjoy - but I don't know what her favorite is, or if she even has a favorite?!?!

Hug, Taz Dev, just because your aunt to quote your mom, may not have been the nicest person and her car was only a car does not mean it still hasn't been a part of her that you have seen for all the years it as parked in your driveway. Thus not an automatic easy thing to just get rid of. I am glad to hear about the $400 that is great!

Oh no! Feel better, Kirby! I just Googled peppermint carnations and found they are sort of Christmas-y colored :)

Hug, Snowysmom, thanks for sharing about your flower memories/connections. My Grandma always loved the smell of lilacs. I also think tulips are so pretty!

Big hug, Lynn and much prayer! ITA with Carol and Easyas, discuss this with your doctor! Pray about it and go from there.

White cake with chocolate frosting is a winner to me! I used to love rice krispy treats as a kid, too. Not able to eat them now but they were tasty. Good idea, PollyannaMom. I hope your Mom has a Happy Birthday, Easyas!

Dad brought home from Pavilions some Monopoly game tickets. No instant winners today but some codes to check out later. Do any of you have Pavilion (Safeway in some places) chain of supermarkets? He goes there once weekly and Ralph's (Kroger) once or twice. Last year we actually made a monopoly (first time ever) and won $5.

Weather is turning here. Supposed to rain tomorrow night and Wednesday. For here it will be freezing, 39 and 40, at night, yikes!

Have a good rest of morning and early afternoon, friends.

Thanks but mom was right. When my aunt got rid of the car originally she sold it to a dealer, who gave her less than it was worth, even though she knew I wanted the car. I paid more than I would have paid her directly. My aunt was that kind of person. I think my problem was unresolved issues when she was dying. I know that the housekeeper was stealing from her which is why she had my aunt change her will TWICE that year. When we found out the first time my aunt didn't even know she had done it. My mom has a way of getting me out of my head so that I think more logically. The housekeeper will face a greater power one day and will have to answer for her actions. I fear the Lord's wrath may be way stronger than mine could ever be as it should be. I just get upset that the monies that were supposed to go to animal rescue agencies were stolen by the housekeeper when she changed the will so that she got EVERYTHING!!!

I think the car was finally saying goodbye to my aunt because I was never able to do it when she passed away. It was weird coming home to an empty driveway today though.

I went to Walmart for my daughter and to pick up a couple small things I needed. I left without getting anything because of a rude person. I always check to see the end of a line and no one was behind the last person at the speedy line. Some woman, who had been looking at different racks, started yelling at me that she was in line. Sorry if you look like you are shopping you don't appear to be in a line. She had way over the 20 item limit which is also why it didn't seem she was in line. It wasn't worth the aggravation and the dog has enough food til I do my regular shopping.

Trying to figure out dinner for tonight. I still can't cook so I can't decide if I want Chinese Food or Texas Roadhouse.

I forgot about mums, I love the fall flowers on my porch with a pumpkin. Zinnias are easy to plant and great to cut and put in vases. Thanks fro the reminders.

yeah, marshmallows - rice krispie treats, yum

cake , hmm. My family is different we liked spice cake with caramel icing, angel food with strawberries, or Bundt cake with cinnamon swirl inside. One of my kiddos prefers a choc chip cookie cake instead. It’s the thought that counts, I am sure she will appreciate it
