Weathermen here were calling for strong storms all day. but It was sunny and gorgeous all motning (allowing me to get the whole lawn mowed and weedwacked. Around 3, there were a couple of loud cracks of thunder, and a downpour that lasted all of 15 min. Now it's just cloudy. Hubby had a nice Fathers Day (even if it was with just me). Both sons that live out of town called, and the younger sons 3 daughters sent him recent pics of themselves thru texts.In this day of everyone having phone camera's, noone thinks to send us pictures very often! His daughter stopped after church with one of her girls (she has 2 girls and 2 boys), and brought him a really nice card, and a handmade sign from the 4 okids. It had their handprints in different colors and each one wrote something under their handprints. (their hands have grown a bit, since they are now 20, 16, 15 and 14, lol!). He loved it. She is going to take pics of her 4 kids (each separately and 1 all together) for me this week. Then I will print them and get a multi picture frame and put pics of all 7 grandkids in it as a gift for him. His younger son also sent him a new wireless keyboard which came today, and ordered him a new desk chair which will be here tomorrow, (he has no clue, he thought I bought him a keyboard, till I pointed out that the Amazon box was addressed to him, not me, lol) so he made out well, lol! Dinner tonite is going to be honey battered cihcken nuggets, chicken fried rice and fresh corn. I am too tired to cook more than that. @easyas123 that's awesome! Love the pics! I wasn't sure as you said you were "off to research" the Maltese. Sounds like you have lots of great dog experience!

I think there are differences, though, going from big dogs to small ones, as I learned in going from GSDs to a first Cairn Terrier. When we were looking to "go small", we first tried to rescue, and we came pretty close - as far as almost walking out of the shelter with a cute little mix - when, holding her on my lap, the dog bit my GSD in the face, twice when mine came over to me. That's when I learned about "lap aggression", which was something new for me. (Horrible trait!) Shelter manager thought it wouldn't be fair for my older GSD and jokingly scolded the dog saying "This is the second nice family you've lost out on this week".

Moved on to looking at another small terrier type at a rescue event. Asked specifically if the dog had lap aggression and we were told "No". Thankfully the dog's foster Mom came up to DH and told her the truth, which was that he did! Researched it and turns out a lot of people, perhaps inadvertently, reinforce negative behaviors when small dogs are on their laps and growling, probably thinking it's "cute" and such. Which is so sad, really! I didn't want there to be a danger for anyone, especially kids, or my elderly mom, or visitors, etc. So we made a point of not treating our dog that way when we got him as a pup. We don't "overhandle" him, and if he sits on a lap it's brief and only positive interactions for him; no growling would ever be tolerated! (He never has, though; he's super sweet.) I think that's where some of the reputations of snarly little dogs come from. No dog should be overhandled. It can hurt and irritate them and they learn their only defense is to growl (warn), then bite if warnings aren't heeded.

It was sad to hear the other day but a (sort of) new groomer told me that she enjoys working on my dog because he's nice; that she's used to Cairns being snarly. ☹ If that's true I've no doubt the tough grooming has something to do with it and the terrier personality can be tough to work with so not sure everyone takes the time to train them and treat them like a regular dog. Some of the things I see on Instagram where people are encouraging their puppies to learn to bite just has me smh. Glad you like that book too, I think if everyone followed their advice dogs and their people would be so much better off!

Thanks for the work you do. I offered recently to foster a GSD with a medical condition that they seemed to be desperate for help with. I had applied several times to this rescue to adopt and at least once to foster. They'd lost all my information except an application from 15 yrs ago (go figure!) so if I want to move forward I have to go through the whole application process again. Super busy at work this weekend I haven't had time to do another. Dog likely has already been placed.

Prayers everyone has had a good Monday. Hard to believe this is the last full week of June already! July is next week. Love always reading happy doggie stories. Thank you all, of you, who help with rescues. One day should I have some outdoor space, I would adopt a dog in Champ's honor and memory

It was a challenging day.......spent most of the day trying to book park days for out 2 trips.
Disney IT is a joke.
But just finished them up. Took 3 hours this morning just to get a few done. Then they were working on it all day for APs to book all they wanted.

I apologize for triple posting. I thought that might (I pray ) help make the above clearer--to myself included

QOTD #1: I was born way back East and have lived the majority of my life in CA

QOTD #2: I went to a small university up in Northern, CA. I prefer not to specify. At the time I thought having a drastic change of scene but still being within state was the way to go. Looking back, I wish I had taken a year to work and possibly go to community college as well. I did love how beautiful the area was. It has since grown and I would gather does not have the same feel. Lots of trees and green. Small beaches. I had no clue going in that the university had a known reputation as a party school. To me a party=meeting some of you for breakfast at Minnie's or a small celebration with friends or my Dad. I do not "party" as in the most often thought of college sense of the word. I did feel left out there during my time in the dorms. I also was quieter and did not know anyone first coming in unlike some of the others. One very positive was my final major (Lol I changed at least 4 or 5 times) was early childhood education. At that time, that department on campus was very small, only a few professors and students so we all got to know one another and have that closer interaction which was so valuable!

My advice for future college kids is to definitely visit ahead of time schools you are interested in! Talk to other students and try to get a feel for the campus, dorm life (if that is what you will do), and maybe even the town so you feel more at home coming in. Most of all, know the GE requirements ahead of time (I had no clue there were so many) and decide whether it makes more sense and financial cents to take them for a year or two at a community college and then transfer.

Made it to DS's yesterday. His wife made a nice pasta salad and a cucumber salad and burgers and hot dogs. I baked and took a cake. It was the first time they got to meet their new nephew. It was a very nice visit. First time we'd seen DIL since March 14.

Today headed to Camp Pecometh for 2 hours of pool time.

#1 - born and raised in Maryland. Except for 4 years for college, spent my entire life here. I can't see us moving any farther away than nearby Delaware.
#2 - I went to Ithaca College, which was fine but I have no lasting attachment. 3 years on campus and 1 year in the Bronx for clinical education. I spent more time at University of Maryland where both kids went. They overlapped for 2 years so it was 6 years going to campus for football games (they were both in marching band), drop offs and pick ups, and visits.

QOTD#1: CO, FL
QOTD #2: I didn't go to college (I worked my way up the ranks in the restaurant industry); DH went to a technical college, for architectural drafting, in CO. He wanted to go to UG (Bulldogs) but couldn't (financial).
QOTD#3: I love the days that are just warm enough to enjoy, and just cool enough to be comfortable. Basically, October thru March in FL.
QOTD#4: ice cream flavor...depends on my mood. Tilamook vanilla bean is amazing just the way it is. Strawberry or peach for summer. Jeni's Blackout chocolate cake is amazing. Lately, we've been making some amazing ice creams at home.

We've been spending mornings at our complex pool with DGS (well, DD and I have; DH has to avoid the sun so he just hangs at home) or at the playground outside our apartment. GS really likes the pool. DS got his report card; and he's now a junior.

I was born in New Jersey, folks moved us to middle of nowhere Delaware when I was 12. Since then we have all migrated about 30 minutes west to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Husband started in far western Maryland, then same middle of nowhere Delaware (we met at a party in HS, but ironically we lived less than 3 minutes from each other!).
College? I attended a few...Delaware, West Virginia and Wesley College in Dover, De. I tried, but school just was not for me. Luckily I've gone on to a successful career. Husband attended both Del Tech and Chesapeake College, completing certificate degrees.

I'm an earlier bird most Tuesdays because Dad goes to either Ralph's or Pavilions super early during senior hour. Grateful he is able to go but wish he did not need to quite so early for his sake. I know one day this will be past and he can go later with me, to help

QOTD: #1: A few years ago now I would have said my very favorite day of the week was Thursday. I was so Blessed to be part of a close knit church choir with a wonderful director who was so kind and always centered on being so thankful God had brought us together as a church choir family so that we might sing to Him as we grew our faith and friendships too. That time was so dear to me. Sundays were also so special to me for church! These days, I do try to watch online church on Sunday morning but today will watch last Sunday's service which I admit is nice to be able to do.

Each day especially in health is a gift from God! My favorite non holiday, birthday day....might very well be the first day of Spring, my very favorite season. A time of new life/rekindled anew in and with Christ, budding trees and flowers, my birthday upcoming lol. My favorite time of year is Christmas.

QOTD: #2: My favorite flavor of ice cream is plain sweet vanilla frozen yogurt (that tastes more like soft serve) at a local yogurt place near church with hot fudge! I also do enjoy at Disneyland Dreyers chocolate ice cream with hot fudge.

hmmm - that's a difficult one for me. I'd have to say not set day on the calendar, rather those days that I leave on a vacation would be my favorite non holiday/birthday/anniversary day. I love to travel, be in international or leaving for a short weekend somewhere in driving distance!
