Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

I used to live in South Texas and have visited San Antonio, the Hill country and many surrounding towns, including Uvalde. It's a long ago part of my life but not forgotten by any means. The events of the week made me cry as my memories came back.

I can't remember the last time something so sad actually made me cry.

Of course that is not enough of a response. It's just unbelieveable to think that at a time when I and others my age should be able to sit back and enjoy the last quarter of lives well lived, in safety and happiness, instead we have to worry that there is a threat on every corner for ourselves and the people we love.

When I look into the online faces, I see also the faces of my grandchildren, here and soon to come. I want the world to be safe for all of them.

So I will stand up and make my feelings known in a peaceful way, and that is probably more than I should say here.
Good for you. I actually made a contribution to the cause.

I have had a couple of dark and stormys, and I'm feeling kind of mellow for the first time in days. I'll keep my remarks simple. Cause dis policies and all.

I didn't quote @easyas123 , but the news reports are infuriating. And heartbreaking. One hour and 25 minutes.

No matter what side of the aisle you are on on other matters, on this one thing, we must come together. We should all be mad and sad. Nothing changed 10 years ago, but maybe we can make a change now.

Lynn, would you share you're homemade weed killer? I never thought they would work, but I hate using Roundup:crazy2:

Gladly--I got it from a neighbor--had my doubts, but it works

1 gallon white vinegar (just regular vinegar, not pickling vinegar)
1 cup epsom salts
4-5 drops of blue Dawn dishwashing liquid

Mix together in a sprayer and apply

Yes, it is that simple, lol!

Good sunny morning all. We did get more downpours around 6:30-7. but none of the severe storms they got to the east of us. I hope that's all the rain for the weekend. For sure, I don't have to water the garden

Just the usual Saturday plans for me. Stripping the bed, turning the mattress, washing those sheets and putting clean ones on
Cleaning both bathrooms and running to Giant (Martins) for coke-b2g2 free on sale, and some ice cream.
Taking a long hot bath and doing my hair
Also want to bake some Ghiardelli triple fudge brownies..I am in the mood for them

Have a great morning everyone

Thanks for sharing. I'll have to give that a try. I have a massive amount of weeds in the rockbed and mulch in the front of the house, but don't want to hurt all the ducks and geese that come around to eat the nasty bugs!

Hoping to get the keyboard moved up to my 'office' area, and to get the server built today. Once it's built, I can empty a couple of shelves in the kitchen and reorganize it a bit. If not, then we can do it tomorrow after our errands.

I think we're going to go to Sam's Club tomorrow morning, before the church crowd comes in. Thought about going today, but I'm thinking I just don't want to fight crowds today. Monday afternoon, we're going to see the new Top Gun. We rewatched the first one the other day.

DH bought me a new monitor. I use two, and the second one I had was..jeez..at least 15 years old. Still worked, but the colors were getting duller, and it was tiny. Some women get flowers as a thoughtful surprise; I get computer parts and games, haha.

I'm going to go pour some coffee, now that it's done. Have a good day all.

Happy Saturday!

Got my tomatoes planted yesterday and watched the first episode of the new season of Stranger Things with DS.

DH and some guys from his lodge are planting flags at Bourne this morning.

I'm out with one of the cats, who is patiently guarding the Rose of Sharon:

Hello and welcome to Saturday. My kids are officially done with school. Glad to have that stress behind us for a few months. I'm not sure I would have been able to handle school stuff and moving stuff all at the same time.
Well, it's official, I have a place I can start moving things to on the 4th. While it is a HUGE relief to know I have a place, it is also very sad for my heart, as this means things continue to be more "real" in the situation. The kids were officially told yesterday. I think it was not a huge surprise to them, and I'm not 100% certain my husband had not already said something to the older two. So far, they seem to be ok with it. I'm sure it won't really sink in until we start to pack things and move then into a different place. We are not able to get into the house until Tuesday to look around (the people who own it are here for the weekend finishing up packing and getting the items they want out) but I have shown them outside via a drive by. They are already bickering about who gets to sleep where. A good distraction at least.
I need to go to the post office also on Tuesday and get my mail switched. The house has it's front door facing one street (the office address I believe) but the mailbox set on the other street where the side doors are on for the house. So, I just need to make sure I put the address that the post office will deliver to. One advantage to small town living, is they know who I am and I'm sure to get the mail either way. We are invited to a graduation party this after noon. It is for the daughter of a very dear friend of mine. They live about an hour from us and I'm not sure I have it in me to go. I'm just going to see how the rest of the morning goes and go from there. I think it's supposed to get WINDY and pretty warm here for the next few days. My sister that came down to help me organize papers may come back tomorrow or Monday to help me start moving stuff into a trailer. A good friend of mine has an enclosed one and graciously parked it by my door so I can start to get stuff out. It will stay here until the 4th when we can move things into the house.

@Snowysmom I hope things are going ok for you. These situations often seem like it is 1 step forward 5 steps back. You are doing great, just keep telling yourself that. It is true.

@PollyannaMom love the cat pictures. We have two inside cats and one has decided she wants to be an outside cat. She has become and escape artist of sorts and has gotten more than a few times the last few days.

@lynxstch thanks for the recipe for the weed killer. I am not into landscaping of any sort but my kids are and the new house has a built in flower bed of sorts, so I'm guessing at minimum we will be doing something with that.

@AuntieMe3 hope that you are feeling a bit "brighter" after getting to spend some quality time with the baby and your friend. Prayers for sure as she goes through all her testing.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Home from Martins..got a lot of good coupon deals. Got a seedless watermelon for $3.99 (every place else is $6 or $7, )got a 2 lb bag of extra jumbo shrimp (usually $27.98 , I paid $13 , pkg ball park franks (not our usual brand but for $.99 I thought it was worth the risk)-- Got 8 12 packs of coke (fanta, barqs, sprite, cherry coke, vanilla coke, regular coke , ginger ale, and lemonade), those should last us a couple of months at least. Got 2 cartons of Turkey Hill ice cream ,,one is called 'mystery flavor'' literally. Only thing I saw on ingredients bar that gave me any clue was 'blueberries', lol. We got home and the pain in the neck neighbor banged on our door and asked if I wanted the bank weedwacked. I said no thank you, I just did it 3 days ago. He said he was trying to make a few bucks..I said well it won't be here. Then he says 'you tried to pay me for fixing your weedwacker 2 weeks ago, and my Dad told you no,,right? I said yes,,I tried, but he said no way was I paying you for the 5 min it took you to get the piece of fencing that got caught in it out. I think he was hoping I would offer again,,but I didn't. We go from full sun, to dark and stormy looking.
All my chores are done..so I am done for the day

Continued prayer for Anastasia, AuntieMe3! 🙏I know as she grows older you will continue to be someone special to her. Thank you for the love and care you give to her and her family. You please take care and have a good, safe, weekend!

:hug:B&B. I am so glad you are feeling more at peace. Well said! All should be about coming together in kind, compassionate, faithful care.
You please also stay safe and be good to yourself, Pea! How are Grady and Toto doing? :dogdance: Saw your later post. Delicious looking 🍓

Lynn, as always, your energy never ceases to amaze me! Please do enjoy your🍨

:) PollyannaMom, your cat is enjoying God's flowers, too! May you both find peace out in nature 🌸

Frog, big :grouphug: Truly admire your courage and kind will to do what is true and right for you and your kiddos. We're here for you, my friend and truly do care always.

Carol, that sounds like a very nice day! ::MickeyMo

It's another May-Gray like weather morning here. I did just enjoy some hot chocolate and 🥞 Wishing each of you some Saturday extra fun and joy. I'll check back later.

ETA: I still am looking for, would appreciate your help to find, a big and easy to read 99th birthday image that I can download as a Jpeg image. Prayers please for my friend Sue. She somehow managed to break a couple vertebrae in her back due to turning wrong in bed as she put it! I am so beyond grateful to God that she has good in-home care. I absolutely pray for healing for her especially so she can enjoy her late July birthday! Thank you, dear friends.

I've had to switch from reading this when I finish my workday (i.e., before dinner), because I end up wanting to invite myself over to all of your homes! Oh my, that all looks delicious!

Yesterday was pork and cabbage stir fry. Today we're having Philly style beef melt sandwiches with crispy potatoes. Tomorrow is beef enchilada bowls, with cauliflower rice; and Sunday is Cajun pork sausage stuffed peppers.
Dinner is venison tenderloin with roasted baby creamer potatoes and steamed vegetables.
Also want to bake some Ghiardelli triple fudge brownies..I am in the mood for them

It's just my son and myself now - he has what I like to refer to as a "discerning palate" (he felt the term "picky eater" is a criticism), so I seldom have the opportunity to get creative anymore, unless we have guests. Looking forward to the post-pandemic world and opening the doors again.

@Pea-n-Me - what a GORGEOUS dog. I'm sure under your loving care those ears will perk up and he'll be a joy!

Oh, that reminds me! Did you see the report about the Syrian hamsters? Scientists were trying to make them nicer, and instead made them nutso!

Oh, that’s so sad! They are usually so docile! Leave them alone! 🤬

(Ours enjoying a piece of banana bread!)

How are Grady and Toto doing?
They are doing great! Getting to know and lIke eachother! This morning DH and DD took them out in the car, and turned around, and Toto had crawled into the way back to be with Grady! He never sits in the way back so that was surprising! Tonight DH was cutting some roast beef and stepped away for a second and Grady grabbed a piece and chowed it down! Not used to that; Toto can’t reach, and our Shepherds didn’t do that, except for one Thanksgiving when I was growing up and the dog helped himself to the turkey carcass, lol. I’ll start working with him on training when I’m off this week. He doesn‘t even know how to sit or give his paw. But he couldn’t be sweeter! :lovestruc

We had roast beef (was on sale), broccoli and butternut squash for dinner. It was good. We saw on Instagram a new way to cook broccoli so it doesn’t get mushy. You leave it whole and cook it upside down in boiling water. So it came out intact and nice and green! Will buy it more often whole now. I don‘t like it all mushy (except in soup). Other than that , nothing too exciting. Lots of sandwiches at work. It turned out to be a nice day here. Our mosquitos are bad, though. Had a company out to spray using all natural ingredients. DH said it smelled like eucalyptus. We feed birds and have lot s of bunnies and such, and don’t want them to be harmed.

Have a good Saturday night, everyone! 🐣

CVS says the above 99th birthday image is too low a resolution to make a good photo. Normally I would not care for such a dark background of any image. The only reason I liked this choice was because Sue's vision is sadly almost non existent. The "99" was big and clear. I am praying she'd be able to make it out. I would appreciate some alternative photo finding help from my Quacker family. Thank you all in advance.

birthday - 99.jpg

Not sure if you are still looking for this, but if you aren't don't worry! - I just searched for a free background and added the "99", so it took almost no time at all.
