QOTD Do you like the month of February?
I'm like dazed, it's just another month.

QOTD Will you watch the Olympics?
I will watch some. The GKs pretty much rule the tv during the day and early evening. I usually don't get a chance to sit down during the week until about 8:00 pm anyway. Weekends are a grab bag. I like most of the winter sports. I just get tired of all of the talking.

It felt so good to be able to go back to church after three weeks of staying home because of Covid. I wonder when I should begin wearing a mask again since I'll have some Covid antibodies in me.

We had a great discussion last night about our January book The Radium Girls. One of our members is a retired history teacher and she had a lot of information for us. It's worth reading.

I finished the 4th book, Last Ragged Breath, in the Bell Elkins series by Julia Keller. It's based in the fictional town of Ackers Gap, West Virginia. It's a good series.

We're expecting some pretty cold weather here starting tomorrow night. We in the area that is projected to be hit with sleet, ice and snow. Depending on how much, we may be stuck for a couple of days because the temperatures will not get high enough to melt anything until Saturday. The worst part are the weathermen hyping everyone up.

Haven't decided what we're having for dinner tonight yet. Could be pizza or could be grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup. Who knows? :)

Good cat food score, Lynn!😻

:hug:Snowysmom. I'm so glad your DS does live on a quiet street. Please be careful though on your walks!

Kirby, I'm so glad you were able to get back to church! Hooray for an enjoyable book club meeting as well.

:thanks: so very much PollyannaMom! I feel awful though to need to say it's not letting me download it to save. it says it can't be downloaded securely? :( I'm sorry! I can always take a picture of it if need be and upload that. I don't want you to make an extra effort! I appreciate (YOU always :)) and your help already.

Mona, just take a screen shot!

Will I watch the Olympics? I typically like the winter Olympics but I think I probably won't watch as much as I used to. I may watch some figure skating but maybe not. I have some political issues with the location. Nothing more to say.

QOTD #1 I am kind of indifferent about February, I guess I like it in that it is one month closer to spring.

QOTD #2 I used to watch a lot of the Olympics but the last few not as much. Without getting to political I am opposed to many of the practices that surround the event.

Breezy Carol-- thanks for posting QOTD"s ... fun.

Snowysmom-- thinking of you as you face all the new "first" challenges. I wish you didn't have to.

Same with #1, it's just another month. I don't have a favorite month at all, so...

#2 Same again. I'm not sure I'll watch any this time around.

I took a load of food and misc stuff over to the new house today; and I did the walkthru. Found some things the rehab guys missed that need to be done, like putting outlet covers on the outlets in the garage, closing off the holes that someone cut through on the garage, to put in a spigot in the garage (IDK why they wanted one in there, but they did it), and fixing the oven, because it just doesn't work. The burners on the stove get hot (and I really like the stove; it has 5 burners, glass top...but the oven buttons don't work...I tried them all, and nada). Plus, sometime in the last 3 days, the handle snapped completely off the sliding back door, so we can't open it, and there is now a red-black ant invasion in the hallway bathroom. /sigh Always something when you get a new place....

DS was with me, and we stopped at Freddy's for lunch (it's only 15 minutes from the new place, woot!) and to Home Depot for ant bait traps and to get new housekeys made. Then I came home and did a bit more packing. I'm down to things we are using right now, the stuff I need to clean the old place up for moveout, and the electronics stuff.

DH and DS are taking a load over now. I'll do another load first thing in the morning, and do a quick clean at the new place; then come home and pack up another load for DH to take over tomorrow night. We're moving all the little stuff, hanging clothes and food, etc, to save time with the movers; and we'll are still getting the uhaul on Saturday to finish the move for the bikes and stuff, unless the movers bring a big enough truck to fit it all in. So, tonight is my last night on the Dis until at least Sunday...try not to have too much fun without me. LOL

No problem - I can e-mail it.

I am thinking about buying a can of brown spray paint.

Everyday after jeopardy the dog and I jump in the car and drive down the street and around the corner to park at the dead end. I guess the county felt sorry for the now million dollar hacienda and opted to create more space for them to build gates to access their property by vehicles/RVs/trailers, etc. Luckly this year they did not show up at the property so parking is abundant in front of their 2 metal gates along the dead end road. The dead end road is our access to our daily walk in our desert forest.

first though, the dog checks all the peemails left by other walkers and takes a few minutes with replys and sometimes emojis. then we step into the 100 year flood plain of the larger wash to our east. It is now a forest of mesquite trees, creosote trees , the oldest living organism on earth, needle trees which bloom glories yellow in may , locust tree and dead trees. Sandy paths soft for my dog's paw and my fallen left arch make the walk very comfortable and we are both very ritualist by habit walk. She looks for random messages, I visit the firecracker bush, the only blooming bush of color and the only one that I know of in the desert of our area. Our forest is truly unique to our area as it does not exist anywhere else in our Yuma area . I also look for rock that 3 colors of green like snake snake green.....but I have probably picked it all up as we tend to walk the same ATV trails that are soft... What I have also picked up is the unnatural orange color of the survey stake flags...It is all green and tan here in our forest and then your eye captured the bright orange....very unnatural and disturbing in the peace of desert harmony. jSomeone has just purchased the land so surveyors came out with their colors . I am afraid a joni mitchell song is in the future.

.....so I want to buy some brown spray paint and paint them a natural brown color

ditto ditto ditto ditto....though I llove the cross country skiiing events. have been watching figure skating all fall.....just love the music....guess that song!!!

We went back to Lancaster today. The top I got didn't lay right so I exchanged it for another of the same. Tried on shoes at Merrill but didn't like the fit, and went back to the kitchen store to buy 2 more things we wanted.

Came home for lunch and the driveway had been plowed so we could get the car back in. That was good because then we went grocery shopping. I shopped a personal best because I bought a fair amount of meat. It would have been a real pain to carry it all in from the road.

Chili and salad for dinner. Balanced the check book and paid some bills. Now knitting and puzzle playing.

Here is a picture of the ride through Amish farmland in PA.

OH MY.......they have no mountain range!!!!

Good 12 degree morning. It will go into the 40's for the next few days, so we'll take it!

@Snowysmom-- :grouphug:'s for your not sleeping well, and it being the 47'th anniversary of your first date with Chris. I am sure that brings up a lot of happy, and now some sad memories for you. But you will get through it, still taking one step at a time, one day at a time. I appreciate your always telling us when it's a 'special' day, as we all care for you and are pulling for you to make it through this. Take care of yourself, and may today at least bring you a smile or 2 at recalling that special first date.

No big plans for the day--laundry, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms. Making grocery list, gathering trash..same old same old..lol

Have a nice day..HAPPY FEBRUARY!

well okay...I can match 1 of 5 today...tomorrow is kroger/frys 10% off senior first wednesday so I have made a list and will wake up at 5:00 am to read ads in the morning daily paper and see how I can save money on items never on sale. want to get an early start...suppose to be in the low 70s and I don't want the dog to freeze.....yeah....we have major 50mph winds forcast at lunch time.....wind chill can be chilly.

I try to get to the Festival of the Arts in February. We are on our way down there now. We are driving and are in Wilson NC. I enjoy meeting fellow Disboards and will meet a fellow VWL Groupie! We think Wilderness Lodge DVC is the best. We’re going to one of the Broadway Performances!

I’m not interested in watching the Olympics this year.

🐣 Recovering. Rested today. Tomorrow DH has follow up after surgery. Maybe breakfast somewhere after that.

QOTD

February is ok. Usually a quiet month. I like Valentine’s Day. We don’t really have anything special going on in February.

Olympics? With others who aren’t thrilled with some of the things associated with them, but will probably watch some as DS and DD’s boyfriend are both athletes who enjoy the competitive aspect of them. If athletes start knocking the USA, though, I’m out.

Had rotisserie chicken, rice pilaf and zucchini and summer squash with cranberry sauce for supper.

Chickapin Parterre, I don't think Ralph's (part of Kroger) offers 10% off out here for seniors. I'm so glad they do out there! Rite Aid does offer 20% off for seniors the first Wednesday of every month. Walgreens used to (they still might. Dad really has not gone there much during the pandemic) on the first Tuesday of every month.

:grouphug:Pea, so thankful and glad you got some rest.

Sweet dreams and cozy good night wishes to all.

Good Morning. It is a heat wave this morning at 27. It is supposed to go up into the 40s. However, snow is coming on Friday. As long as it is cleaned up by early Saturday as I have to be at the house early. I go today to take out the trash and check on things.

I bought myself flowers yesterday. That is a big step for me as I didn't think I could do it. Chris always got me flowers on Feb 1. I guess I bought the flowers for both of us.

Have a good day.

Good 19 degree, going to be mid 40's Ground Hog Day!

@Snowysmom--so glad you were able to buy yourself some flowers. You are keeping yet another "Chris and you" tradition alive, even though it was hard for you. That made me smile!

No snow predicted here anytime soon, at least not yet. They say rain for the next few days possible,,and with temps in the mid 40's, it probably won't be snow!

Off to do errands and grocery shopping shortly. Have a nice day all.

Happy Wednesday morning everyone! :earsboy:

Preparing for the ice storm that is heading our way tonight. I placed a Kroger order at 6:30 am and the first pick-up time available was 7:00 tonight . That really sucks because that means I'll have to go out in all the rain to pick it up. I was really hoping to be able to pick it up on the way home from work, oh well, at least I don't have to go out tomorrow with all the ice. I'll put the groceries away and then get comfy and watch The Amazing Race.

Stopped at the party store yesterday on the way home from work and order some balloons for the birthday/Super Bowl party. I got a couple of Happy 21 Birthday with some plain balloons and then a big Super Bowl football balloon with orange and black balloons with that. Then I ran over to Dollar Tree and grabbed some birthday plates and napkins. I didn't want this to just be a Super Bowl party so I decided to go with the birthday theme for the plates.

Ended up eating a turkey sandwich for lunch yesterday at around 1:00 so I wasn't hungry for dinner. Ds3 just ate the leftover tuna casserole. Tonight we'll do the tomato soup and grilled cheese for dinner.

Ordered a couple of new stress balls from Amazon the other day, they're supposed to be here today. I need something to distract me from cracking my knuckles all the time at work. I noticed I need to have to be doing something with my hands so I either crack my knuckles or eat. I had one about a year ago and wore that thing out.

Stay warm everyone and stay safe in you're in line for this next storm. Have a good day! :thumbsup2

6 more weeks of winter, it’s official!

View attachment 643879

hahahahaha - I'm calling out Phil!

I also have a gopher/groundhog under my shed. He came out this morning and did NOT see his shadow as it is cloudy and overcast here. He then proceeded to munch on seeds under my birdfeeders. My yard slopes down so the back side of my shed is exposed underneath by about 2 feet while the front rests on solid ground. That gopher/groundhog has a huge hole dug right at the edge of the back. He digs, I fill it in, rinse and repeat. He has several other surfacing spots nearby and I don't have the heart to relocate him as he's really not bothering me very much so long as he stays out back.

So, 6 more weeks for PA! But Maryland spring will be pushing up jonquils in my front yard starting mid to late February. And my Japanese Quince usually blooms in early February snow or not, but I cut it down so far in fall I'm not really sure I'll get blossoms.
