Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Late night hi from me because the mail just came and I needed to log into Paperback swap to mark a book package received. What a lovely surprise to find some new posts this evening.

Hooray for your pretzel find, Easyas! 🥨Disposable, especially for bigger meals or items, is definitely the way to go. Wise lady!

Hug, Judique, that’s wonderful you got a discount on your prescription thanks to a helpful doctor. Always good to hear stories of kind health care workers, like our very own dear Pea, who even from across the country, I know is in a class of her own with providing patient care :)

That is also a clever idea, Carol!

God Bless your great-grandmother, good for her plus an unique way to reuse the bag :D

As for the QOTD, which I thank you for asking Easyas, it's a good one, I don't have an answer since I won't be cooking a turkey. If dad makes himself any type of main dish in the oven he would most likely use something disposable, too!

Sweet dreams, my friends.

I use an open roasting pan with a rack in it. Not sure what I'm doing this year as my son has suggested a non traditional meal after I had already mentally planned a traditional meal. DD still wants something leaning towards traditional so we may end up with at least a roasted turkey breast if I can find one, plus another type of meat, maybe steak.

Good very early morning. I was so tired I was in bed by 9. And 6 hours is usually the amount of sleep I get before waking lol. I have gotten so much cleaned and thrown out this week, that I just might take a break today. But then again. Not feeling well for the past couple of months put my fall cleaning way behind. We were hoping the floor installation would start today. But getting labwork done threw it off. I don t think the guy wants to get started after noontime. But I could be wrong. We have just been waiting so long, that we can hardly wait to.have the new nice looking floor down. This guy will also put new gutters on the house. Another project that has

been waiting for our previous handyman to get around to. Guess he's no longer our handyman. Which is sad after almost 20 years.
As far as Thanksgiving, we got a 10 lb turkey since its just the 2 of us. Hubby is not a fan of it. So I usually only make one for the year. And once on awhile if I find turkey thighs in the market I will fix myself one. Summer brought Mr L a small one of her homemade pumpkin rolls yesterday. Which he said was very good. But I don't care for pumpkin anything
That prompted a QOTD from me

Are you a fan of pumpkin pie, or anything pumpkin flavored, and if you make homemade pumpkin pie, do you add cloves to it? Some people either love or hate it
Have a lovely day all!4a1490ea1d56ce2652e97bbd4909e7e9.jpg

Auntie3Me Sorry about Bingo Boy. Spoil him rotten and I hope he has many days ahead.

Lynn Glad to hear your doctor's appt went well. Maybe a rest day is a good idea to do some self care and relaxation.

I was busy at the house yesterday. I got clothes ready to be donated, cabinets partially cleaned out except for what I will be taking with me, and canned goods ready for donation. I was going to go again today but DDIL asked if I could watch the kids while she has a zoom meeting. Both kids are sick with colds and can't go to daycare or school. I can do it now but once I start working again I won't be able to. I will go to the house tomorrow and Friday.

I am going to call the Social security office in Cambridge at 10 to see if I can get an appt. The rep told they load the appts for the week at 10. Since I am supposed to already be in the queue according to many reps I don't understand why they aren't calling me as I was told they would. Wish me luck. I need it!

Happy Wednesday morning! :sunny:

Should be the last of the nice days around here, 61 today and tomorrow the high is 43 :scared:.

Bought the chair yesterday from the lady on Marketplace. The colors were perfect for my living room, comfortable and in good shape. Ds1 will pick it up for me tomorrow after work.

Auntie3Me - so sorry that you had bad news about your dog. That would have crushed me completely. I would definitely make the rest of his days as special as you can .

QOTD - I've never made a turkey but if I would, I would use the throw-away pan considering I don't have a big roasting pan. Last year for Thanksgiving I made a turkey breast in the crockpot, it was really good and easy so I'll probably stick with that in the future.
Not much else happening with me so I guess I'll get back to work. Have a good day!

Lynxstch... It might be a good idea to take it easy today, don't want to lose the progress you have made in your recovery.

Snowsysmom.... I have been trying to deal with the SS dept. also. It is really frustrating. I keep trying to remind myself that it is hard on the workers there also. With everything you are going through, I am so sorry you have to deal with that.

QOTD... no turkey this year, due to my surgery. It is an extreme way to get out of preparing the Thanksgiving meal, but it is my least favorite to cook. Come to think of it, my oven isn't working either. We may not have a new one before Christmas because of supply issues. When I do make turkey I use a big pan with a rack, it is messy though!

Today I'm going to do a few outside chores. Tomorrow I am going shopping with my sister, due to covid numbers are surging again, and my surgery, this will be the only time before Christmas. Kind of sad, I love Christmas shopping!!

Good morning.

Quick post before we have to leave for an appointment with our financial planner.

We have lived in this house 33+ years, and prior to this year, have seen 2 deer in the neighborhood. We have seen 4 in the past week. This morning two ran behind our back fence, one jumped the fence into our yard for a distance then went back out. Not sure why the sudden surge.

Are you a fan of pumpkin pie, or anything pumpkin flavored, and if you make homemade pumpkin pie, do you add cloves to it?

I do like pumpkin pie. This year Tessa specifically asked for it so I am making it, rather than DD getting store bought. I use the recipe on the pumpkin can which does include ground cloves.

Got to run. BBL

When I cooked for Thanksgiving I used a real turkey roasting pan. We used to use the foil ones but they were not strong enough. Now the kids are doing the Thanksgiving meals. Older DS has a smoker and he is cooking the turkeys in that this year.

I am not a fan of pumpkin flavor but I used to make pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving for DH and younger DS. I usually make a chocolate cream pie and apple pie for the holidays.

Dazedx3 I have been trying to get an appt with social security since early October. I find it unacceptable to have to wait that long with no response. I keep being told 7-10 business days which would be fine if that were the truth. I really need to get my financial issues in order so I can figure out what I can and can't do. I wish you luck with the process.

Snowysmom Yes, that is unacceptable. I am dealing with my disabled adult, niece and nephew's affairs, So far, I have been able to talk with someone on the phone but keep getting different, conflicting information. I have filled out the same forms 3 times and just got the forms in the mail again. We have gotten multiple amounts quoted for benefits. It is a full time job. I wish you well, also

We use a disposable and place it on a cookie sheet to move it. We have a nice roasting pan but it's a pain to clean. It was a hand me down from one of our mothers and I think we've used it once. We do use the nice china, nice glassware, etc.

That's how I feel, my roaster is great but it's also a pain to clean! I also use my nice china and serving bowls, I figure I might as well enjoy them! I know some might think it rather uptight of me, but I don't care for paper plates & plastic ware for a formal meal, which is how I approach Thanksgiving. But you better bet I put in a supply of paper plates earlier this week in anticipation of the days after Thanksgiving & leftover heating up.

And for years before that, she would cook the turkey in the oven in a big brown grocery store paper bag!

My parents used to live in a area where a dish called 'Chicken in Da Bag' was a very common dish, and it was prepared either in a foil packet or it was served in a paper bag, depending of what and where you were eating. I have heard a lot about cooking a turkey in both a oven bag and a paper bag, but I've never tried either. I think I'm going to do a google search and investigate it. I guess what I wonder about w/ the paper bag is - doesn't the paper bag disintegrate during the cooking process somewhat?

The only thing I really like is pumpkin roll. I'm a hard no for anything else, including the PSL and related coffee products and the pie as well. Not sure why I like pumpkin roll and not the other stuff!

I just called the general social security number. I talked with a wonderful helpful rep. She was concerned to hear that I have been waiting so long to get an appt. She took all my info, changed the local office I will be working with to Waltham as Cambridge did not have any appts. She got me a phone appt for Jan 3. I am so grateful. I told her how great she was to help me out and how much I appreciated it. I have been so sad and heartbroken lately missing Chris. Life has been challenging. This one act of kindness and goodness has really made my day. I think maybe Chris (and God) was helping me out a bit, I keep telling Chris I need his help to get through life and I believe he is with me and helped me out.

It shouldn't be this difficult for people to navigate the SS system, especially when often times folks are reaching out to them during trying times in life. It's really terrible -

Wow, I didn't realize I was so behind here! Please pardon me if I miss your post in my reply.

So sorry to hear about Bingo.

The quilt on the new bed is so pretty!

Sorry to everyone having trouble with meds and Social Security.

I don't do the turkey for Thanksgiving, but I am a real dishes (plates, glasses, etc.) person for fancy dinners.

I like many pumpkin items, but am not actually a fan of pumpkin pie, so I've never made one.

Good Morning all :)

I am also so sorry to read of trouble with social security and other red tape issues, so frustrating and no fun for anyone!

:hug:Snowysmom. Indeed God is forever with you! Chris is, too my friend, promise. I absolutely agree with you that the kind rep was guided by them both!

:grouphug:Lynn, cleaning can wait, really. YOU and taking care, dear friend, can't!

Not a pumpkin person. Dad semi is. I'd rather have a chocolate pie or pre plague did anyway, not sure I'd enjoy the heaviness of one now. I used to love Golden Corral's Chocolate Chess pie minus the whipped cream, so good!

Dad is getting his Moderna booster this morning. Praying that goes well for him. This afternoon, depending on how he is feeling, he will go to a new Dollar Tree. Tomorrow we bake the cookies.

Love to all and Happy Wednesday! AuntieMe3, praying for you extra and also to you, Kirby, I hope you are doing okay, miss you.

Back from today's adventure.

Met with our financial guy for the first time in person since COVID. All other meetings were by phone. It was nice to see him. We started with his wife in about 2001-2002 when she came to our kids' high school to discuss planning for college. We liked her but after she got married then got pregnant, she turned us over to her husband. Said first child is now a high school sophomore. Obviously, we like them and he has done well for us. He explained some tax sttegies to us.

After that we went to a Delaware State park new to me, Alapocas Run. Took about a 2 mile hike and the fall colors on the trees were gorgeous. Then to lunch at the Charcoal Pit. A historic hamburger place that Joe Biden likes and Barrack Obama has been there too. Great burger. On the way home we drove past the Bidens' neighborhood in Wilmington. Interesting to see the signs at each end of the road ready to close the road when he is there.

I don't care for paper plates & plastic ware for a formal meal, which is how I approach Thanksgiving.
DH feels that way too. We don't use paper for indoor meals. His mother would use them at Christmas, which DH didn't like, so he volunteered to wash dishes.

The only thing I really like is pumpkin roll.
Ohh, I like a pumpkin roll too.

@flyingdumbo127, glad your father did well. Remind him to stay hydrated. We drank Gatorade but our kids recommend Pedialyte. Both DH and I felt mildly bad at different times after the booster but only for 3-4 hours. Worth it.

After a bigger than usual lunch, soup for dinner.

Managed to navigate Aldi's, Walmart, the discount store over the PA line, and CVS. Not even the least bit tired, and I got stuff we have been out of for awhile. Had to get a new cordless drill as mine bit the dust after 5 years. Also got a new pair of jeggings to try, I have lost weight and my pants are hanging off of me, lol. Stopped at Subway to get dinner,,haven't had one since June!
Have a nice evening all

@flyingdumbo127 Glad your Dad is doing well after his booster. I found the booster is easier than the first 2 as it is half the dose.

Have a good evening.

Ditto that for me - I had no discomfort after my booster.
Glad to have been able to get it -

Not even the least bit tired

Good! Take care of yourself!

Well, The Fates do have their way to being naughty, don't they?!?! One of my ovens had the heating element go out in it, and of course it is on backorder everywhere and no one knows when it will be in. I've made the executive decision to not sweat it. I'm fortunate enough to have one other oven plus the oven in the in-law suite so no need to cry over it. Besides - at this point there is nothing to be done for it. But....I'm putting it out there that nothing else is to go south with my appliances in the next 10 days. I've put all my appliances on notice 😬

My schedule has changed for tomorrow, now I'm on the road for the majority of the day as I need to head up towards Harrisburg, PA for a meeting. Looks like about a 2 1/2 hour drive each way so should take a fair bit of my time

Thank you all so much for your Dad prayers and well wishes. He is doing just fine, thank God.

That sounds like a nice day, Carol. Dad definitely (in general) needs to drink more water, thank you for the reminder. Your financial guy and his wife sound lovely. Dad will be seeing his financial guy in a week and a half.

Such a good share, Lynn! I am so happy my friend:hug:

Thank you as well, Snowysmom:hug: Truly glad the booster went well for you, too.

Please stay safe on the road, Easyas! I'm sorry about your long commute :( Prayers for good weather! Thank you as well, my friend, on my dad.

Mail heads up that I pray does not happen to any of you! Once again for the last two evenings, we have only gotten packages through the USPS. No mailbox mail including expected pieces according to informed delivery. I think I shared over the summer how this same thing happened early in the summer. One week for a few days we'd only get packages, the next few days only mailbox mail. We were told at that time by one of the carriers that was because the PO had one carrier for packages and another for mailbox mail. Neither overlapped the way a regular carrier is supposed. We did get both packages and mailbox mail on Monday. We shall see what comes tomorrow. I am grateful for any mail that makes it, extra if it is happy mail :)

I finally finished watching The Christmas Ornament and while touching parts, I think I liked it better the first time around, last year. Will start watching another movie later or tomorrow :)

Sweet dreams to all!
