Well the wet weather is coming our way tomorrow! Scary seeing the pictures down your way and around NYC. Watching the 11pm news and we have a tornado warning in effect right now, too. :scared: I guess we’re sharing the wealth!

Busy day today. Had a good doctor’s appt but online check in was a bust. It never registered so once there I had to run down the stairs to check in again. I told the girl don’t check my BP just yet, I was just in horrid traffic getting here AND I had to run down and up stairs, not to mention I’m aggravated now! :lmao: Doc congratulated me on all of my numbers (and rechecked my BP and it was fine), but said she thinks I underestimate the stress of my job! We commiserated for a bit about how bad things have gotten in medicine, so it’s good to talk to her about it. I made sure to thank her for the good care she’s given me and my family. Had a work zoom mtg in the afternoon. And made it to DS’s softball game tonight, they won their championship, so that was fun. Old friends whose son is also on the team joined us so it was like old home week, our boys played baseball together since they were little through college.

@flyingdumbo123 I’m sorry, I don’t k now anything about Staples ordering! We do get a lot from Amazon and fortunately we usually have good luck. I always order from AmazonSmile because with each purchase they donate to my charity of choice, which is a dog rescue. It adds up after a while, and they let me know how many times they’ve given them a percentage of my purchases.

@taz I got some beautiful lightening video this summer at Disney. It was tough to get pics so I just let the video run. We were out on our deck at Copper Creek. You could hear other guests also out on their decks sort of screaming every time there was a big bolt! It was sort of scary. But very fun to capture! DH taught my DD to decorate cakes. At one point he taught classes locally. It is a fun skill to know!

Have a good night everyone! Hopefully no tornadoes here! Still sending prayers down to those affected by Hurricane Ida, including our friend @snappy and her family.

Wow so many of you experiencing such extreme weather. I hope you all are safe and don't get storm damage.

Our flash flash/severe weather warning from yesterday turned out to be nothing... not even a drizzle and we really need rain in CA.

I ended up driving down to San Diego this afternoon to watch my niece for a few hours this evening. My sister ended up needing a last minute medical procedure, not life threatening or anything like that but still something that needed to be taken care of. I'm so glad I was able to help them out by staying with my niece. My poor sister needed to be there at 5:30p, was supposed to go in to the procedure at 6:30p and they didn't end up taking her back in until almost 8:45p. BiL is still waiting to hear when he'll be able to pick her up and bring her home so I'm glad I decided to spend the night.

:grouphug: to you all.

Believe it or not, the 11pm news never ended, the weather person has been on continuously since then just warning about these tornadoes! Looks like they are mainly over the Cape Cod area, but it seems to be evolving. Also warning about flash flooding. They are saying that these things don’t usually happen at this time of night, and people are calling in to ask if they should be waking people up to warn them of it. She is saying Yes! As it is, I am the only one up in my house still, no one else knows. Going to stay up for a little while longer to see what happens with it all. If things heat up, I’ll wake up the fam. This wasn’t an issue earlier in the evening that I’m aware of, but then again, we were out. 🤔

Auntie, that’s a long wait time! I hope everything goes well with the procedure. It’s nice of you to help out!

I went through some of the videos I mentioned above. Much better to watch it in motion, but here are some stills from the lightening. Amazing how much the bolts lit up the whole area. And it was accompanied by LOUD thunder claps that sounded like they were right there (cause they were!). The last pic was of the weather map on DH’s iPad at that moment. The yellow circles designate the lightning strikes that were in the area right then. Yikes! Thought you all might enjoy seeing them. (Hope it doesn’t scare anyone!) It was such a beautiful view.

Normal view. Raining

Wow @Pea-n-Me scary stuff. Bad weather freaks me out so I would not be able to sleep at all. I hope you all are safe.

The lightening pics are incredible. We had a horrible night of thunder and lightening like that a couple years ago, it was so crazy. So much lightening it looked like a strobe light was going off outside and the thunder was shaking the house. I was with my mom that night and her little dogs were just as freaked out by it as I was. LOL I didn't get any sleep that night and wouldn't you know, it was the best night of sleep my mom had in a long time. I was used to her waking me up 2-3 times a night to go to the bathroom and she didn't wake up once that night. :rolleyes2:lmao:

I used to enjoy the sound of thunder and lightening. But several years back, we were actually hit by lightening, and had a fire. Now, it makes me nervous. 😦 Tornadoes aren’t something we get too often, so people, I think, are less familiar with what to do for those. That’s probably why they’re still on TV telling people to go into their basements! It looks like this could go on until 7am and potentially shift course. Blizzards, hurricanes and flooding we are more used to. It is raining quite hard out right now. The house sounds creaky, and it usually doesn’t. Ugh.

Morning everyone. We survived the weather where I am and I awoke to bright sunshine.

There were several tornados in the area. I wish I could find a link for the one video some friends posted on Facebook. There is a bridge in my area that is scary to drive over, to me anyway. It crosses the Delaware river into Burlington NJ. The cameras at the bridge caught a rather good size tornado going from PA to NJ right near the bridge, actually crossing the path to it in NJ. That would have terrified me as I hate driving on that bridge as it is, I always have.

I have to take my husband for his shoes this morning and I may drive up to the area where the tornado was seen. There is a smallish cemetery there where my 3X great grandfather and his family are buried. I can head to the camera shop while in the area to have them answer, or show me, how to take the multi focus function off my new camera. I need single spot focus.

@Pea-n-Me - the lightning pics were part luck and part perseverance. I have managed to get them a few times now. I figure out where the lightning is appearing and count the intervals. Then I count and rapid shoot 20 or 30 pics. Sometimes I erase a lot of pictures when I am done but that is the beauty of digital cameras. I had a bucket list of extreme weather pics I wanted but I think I am crossing tornados off that list. After seeing that video by the bridge. They are SCARY!

Hope everyone stays safe and has a good day.

Good morning..woke to bright sunshine and 54 degrees outside, wow what a difference that makes. Going to be about 77 today. One sister in law lives in Ellerslie,,and they have a big creek down behind them. They got water in their basement and their bedroom ceiling leaked, but down below them on the road, they had to evacuate all the houses for the high water. One person was found clinging to a telephone pole and had to be rescued. That is down where our handyman lives, and he lives dangerously close to that creek so I hope their house is okay

Going grocery shopping this morning. Hubby says he will be okay for a couple of hours. He will probably sleep as he got even less sleep than I did, and I got about 4 hours total from 10 last nite through 7 this morning. I wake up around 2 and am wide awake and it takes forever to go back to sleep, and then I sleep fitfully. This cold I have isn't helping that either.

Have a nice morning, I hope all escaped the storms fury!

Good morning.

We survived the weather where I am and I awoke to bright sunshine.
Same here. Luckily the phone alerts stopped so they didn't wake us up. We got 5 1/4 inches of rain here yesterday, according to the bucket I leave by the garden. Many roads closed due to flooding so school are closed today on their second day of classes.

I always order from AmazonSmile because with each purchase they donate to my charity of choice, which is a dog rescue.
I use Smile also and my donations go to the golden retriever rescue that we adopted from.

No real plans today. Staying available for DD.

That is great since you prefer that. My office was supposed to have the grand reopening right after Labor Day but I believe it has been rescheduled. Most people want to keep working from home and only visit the office if and when needed. I have been going in all along for one morning a week. I asked my boss about just working in the office 2 days a week and from home the rest once the office reopens. He thought that would work. Most people will be doing hybrid. I would love to keep the one morning a week but I don't think that is going to be approved.

Good for you. I was going to ask to continue doing at least one, if not two days from home when I have my performance review next week. I'm sure he would have said "no" because he was very excited to have everyone start back in the office full time.

Good morning everyone :flower1: .

I started my morning off great, overslept! >:( I use my phone as my alarm clock and twice in the last month the stupid thing died during the night. I just don't understand how I can go to bed at 10:00 with a full battery and it dies during the night. My phone is 4 years old, my kids keep telling me that I need to upgrade it but that just makes me so mad. You pay all this money for a good phone and they only last 4-5 years! What if everyone started making their products like that, you washer is only good for 4 years, this car will only get you 5 years. I'm just not happy that now I'm going to have to get a new phone which means I'll have a higher monthly payment. Sorry for the rant, I'm done.

My son had an interview this morning. I've been telling him for the last week that whenever he gets an interview for some place, he needs to get a haircut. He's let his hair grow long for the past 18 months. I hate it!!!!!!! Anyway, he doesn't listen and didn't get a haircut. He just texted me and said that the first thing the guy said was "I like your hair". Really, he did not help this momma out!!!

Get my flu shot today at work. Scheduled one of the first appointments, figured just get and be done with it.

Have a good day :sunny:

Maybe you can replace the battery on the phone. Batteries only last so long, even rechargables! Products aren't built to last anymore. The goal of the companies is to sell more things, and they can't sell more than one to you if the one you have is still working!

My DS hasn't cut his hair since 7th grade. (He's a senior this year!) His hair is absolutely gorgeous, as he does nothing to it but wash and airdry, and I hate him for it, lol. He bundles it up in either a ponytail or a bun when he goes out.

DH, DS and I are getting our flu shots in October, right after DS turns 18. That way, he can go get it with us at Publix or Walgreens or CVS. Before, he had to go to the doctor, quick care, or the health dept to get it; our school district only does the nasal vax, which we can't have, as it's a 'live' vax, and DH can't be around those.

--------------------------------------

I was thinking about getting subs for lunch tomorrow. I have to run to Publix anyways, so maybe I'll just do that and make my life a little easier. Today on the menu: panko covered pork chops, roaasted veggies and sweet potatoes.

My Amazon Smile is set for the National Kidney Foundation. Between them and the American Kidney Foundation, they got us through the 6-1/2 years of dialysis, and the first year of the transplant.

Hello to All.

Checking in early for me as it's going to be a busy day/night and next few days. Can't believe that it's Labor Day weekend. My kids are excited for a 3 day weekend (we need it even though school has only been in session for 2 weeks! oy!) We do have a busy few days though, so am thankful to have Monday to recoup a bit before getting back to the "grind".

lynxstch - colds are miserable. I hope you are on the mend soon and you and Mr. L. can both start getting some good rest.

Breezy_Carol-That is a lot of rain! We got a little over 2 inches a few days ago, completely by chance. They had us only getting a little sprinkle, so we are thankful for the two inches. We are in need of rain here. Also thankful it came down nicely and not in a heavy downpour that causes runoff and doesn't really get to soak into the ground.

footballmouse - Oversleeping is the pits. It seems once that happens the day is just "off" no matter what you try to do. Flu shots, wow, I need to get on making appointments for us, or call and see if appointments are even required. It changes year to year depending on where we end up getting them. If they align with the kids well child checks I just have them do them then, but that didn't happen this year, so will prob go to our local public health department. Good luck to your son and his long hair on the job hut! :duck:

Pea-n-Me - How very scary about the lightening and the fire. We get tornados and straight line winds here. Thankfully we've always been okay, but storms make me nervous.

AuntieMe3 - I'm sure your sister is very appreciative of your help. Hopefully she is doing well. Any kind of medical procedure can be stress inducing, even if its' not "critical".

Kirby - I can empathize with the meal not being a hit...I have had more meal fails than I can keep track of. On my Pinterest board I even started a "board" titled "Never Again" to keep track of the fails. I've been doing well for me though in the last week, tried 3 new recipes (all simple and nothing fancy) and a majority in the house liked them, so to that me is a win. Hope your daughter and all of you stay healthy.

tazdev - Glad your grandson was able to get ahold of you and make it home safely. My kids don't ride the bus and I never did either, but I'm guessing it's a mad house to make it on after school and a bit overwhelming at times. Some kids in our area have to make a bus switch mid-route, a friend of mine had her kids at this school and there was a miscommunication about this (its a small district and I think the driver/school ) assumed all parents just knew that if you are on this specific route, the kids change over at a certain spot. Um, nope, my friend and her daughter had no clue, and her daughter was in kindergarten so ended up not getting off at home when she was supposed to (she was still on the other bus) and her mom had to go get her. It turned out fine, but it was def. a major oversight on the part of the school.

Thank you all again for your prayers. We are still slowly going forward. I am thankful for that and continue to pray we are able to work through what still needs work.

Have a good day everyone and, as always, stay safe.

Huge :grouphug: and prayer to all of you in the path of extreme weather! Please, please, stay safe and take care! Also, remember to check in with us :)

Same strange/overcast weather here this morning. This weekend it is supposed to be 90! I knew summer was not over yet.

I also use Amazon Smile :) I now donate to the American Cancer Society. I also donate through Ralph's to a local animal rescue organization.

Feel better prayers (at long last) dear Lynn and to anyone else feeling under the weather as well! Colds are no fun indeed.

I will check back in this afternoon.

Wow! Now I know why my sister-in-law checked on us this morning. :rotfl2: I went to bed early and had no idea how bad the weather got in my area.

We are fine, though. I had an early appointment today, and only saw one branch down on one road.

I use my phone as my alarm clock and twice in the last month the stupid thing died during the night. I just don't understand how I can go to bed at 10:00 with a full battery and it dies during the night. My phone is 4 years old, my kids keep telling me that I need to upgrade it but that just makes me so mad.

I sympathize with hating to adjust to a new phone. Could you move your charger near your bed and plug it in while you sleep? That's when I normally charge mine.

I don't know how some grandparents do daily daycare all year.

My husband and I are still in recovery from watching our 5 year old niece overnight about a month ago! I don't know how they do it either!

Anyway, things in our house are slowly moving in a better direction, and for that I am grateful.

Oh good, I'm glad you were able to get things to a better place.

make a grocery list for tomorrow.

We are going out of town Sunday night for several days, I'm trying hard to make my groceries stretch, if for no other reason than I don't feel like going to the grocery store! Still, I think it's inevitable. I'm going to have to pick up a few things at least -

Highs are supposed to be in the upper 70's and low 80's this week so I turned the air off and opened the windows. Hopefully they can stay opened for a while.

Me, too! This morning I turned off the AC and opened up the entire house. I'm not sure I'll keep them open all night...we have a bird call that goes off in the fields on the master bedroom side of the house (helps keep the birds off the grapes) and it's LOUD. It's only on for another few 3-6 weeks though.

Most people want to keep working from home and only visit the office if and when needed.

We've been working in person for pretty much the entirety of this situation- 14 of us in office, and about 35 off at jobsites - but we are hearing from our accountant and our risk management folks about how the majority of their workforce is still working from home either full time or most of the time, and that they have folks who are refusing to come back in, even though the need to have in-house staff has returned. But they are so busy, and it's so damn difficult to find anyone who wants a job, that they don't know what to do. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have not had to lay anyone off and kept everyone on payroll this entire time, although at times it was iffy. We can't find anyone who wants to work either. Knock wood, not a single person in our office ever tested positive the entire time, and only 2 people on our jobsites got it. I'd say our office is about 12 vaccinated, 2 who are not.
We've been fortunate that everyone has stayed healthy.

that's in Lavale,,near our Ollies store..that shows how much water was running through there a little while ago..washed out part of the parking lot..wow!

I showed that video to my husband and he said "hey - that's near my Long John Silvers!". Honestly - he stops there a few times a year as he is coming & going from Swanton. That was some rush of water!

my husband finally gets his new shoes tomorrow. The foot doctor was not at all happy about how this played out but unfortunately we are stuck with this company for now

I hope they fit good and he's happy with them considering the wait & whatnot. Good luck with the fitting!

As a p.s. Do any of you know whether a 20% percent back on an ink purchase in Staples Rewards is supposed to be the value of 20% of the cost of the ink as an actual coupon?

I'm afraid I don't know....we use Quill (which owns Staples or vice versa) but we order everything online. They offer us coupons & sales once in a while, but then again we are buying in larger quantities usually.

One of her students was out today because she tested positive for Covid which means that she has been exposed to it.

Fingers crossed she's negative and can go on with her weekend plans. Our niece - she's 5 - tested positive earlier this week which caused her parents to have to cancel or postpone her birthday party Saturday. Neither my SIL or BIL tested positive thankfully, and other than a bit of a fever and raspy cough at first, niece is feeling fine and about back to normal at this point. I'm dropping her birthday gifts off on their front porch tomorrow afternoon-

AmazonSmile

My Amazon Smile is (North Abaco) Potcakes Rescue!

I can head to the camera shop while in the area to have them answer, or show me, how to take the multi focus function off my new camera. I need single spot focus.

We need a new camera, my husband will probably start shopping around soon. Nothing fancy, we have no technical talent, just a smaller, decent camera to take good pics on our next trip. Do you recommend one brand over another for non professional use?

Going to be about 77 today

Similar here, just beautiful out.

Can't believe that it's Labor Day weekend.

I can't either. But I'm ready for it to be so. I'm inclined to get some of my fall decorations out - although to be honest those consist of a few faux pumpkins and a swag for the front door.

Hi there everyone, hope all of you who were in the storms path last night made out ok. We watched the storms swirl around us, had some great downpours, lots of lighting and thunder and tornado watches, but thankfully no damage. It dawned bright & beautiful here thankfully.

Had to run up to Lowes this morning and grabbed hoagies from Wawa for our lunch, dinner will be a piece of slow roasted venison over caesar salad. Not sure about tomorrow, but I think it will be fish. I'll be on the road and then in a meeting tomorrow most of the day so simple grilled fish will be a easy meal to deal with. No real plans this weekend - we did have a little kids party but that has been canceled due to my nieces positive covid test (she's fine, 36 hours of a light fever on & off and a dry cough, she's fine now and in tip top shape thankfully) which I fully admit we are both slightly glad not to have to go to. I think this weekend we will be doing some yard work & clean up, and clearing out the garden area. The tree we need to take down will be falling right in that area so now is a good time as ever to get ready for that chore. Sunday evening we will head to the airport hotel because someone (me) was ditzy enough to book a 6 AM flight out. We will spend M-Th down on the gulf coast of FL and then be home mid-day Thursday.

Have a wonderful afternoon everyone.

Do you recommend one brand over another for non professional use?
Omg! Taz and I were both posters over on the Photography Board for many years, and that is probably the #1 question that could start a virtual WAR over there! :rotfl2:I believe Taz is a Nikon shooter, which is much more mainstream than my brand of choice for all the dSLR and mirrorless equipment I have, which is Olympus. (Oh, the horror! :lmao: )

Point and shoot cameras are another story altogether, though. I haven’t kept up with latest recommendations because honestly, the latest iPhones have cameras that are so capable, the need for a point and shoot has become almost obsolete. The real key for good photography is knowing how to best use whatever camera it is that you have in your hand. My DD has the 12 Max and the camera is unbelievable. She is a great photographer but she is still learning what that camera is capable of. I may end up having to make the move myself because I love the camera on my 8Plus, but truthfully I’ve been having battery issues so it may be getting to the time where it makes more sense to replace the phone than the battery. We’ll see. (Getting a low battery notification as I post this! 😬 ) I’m happy to share a few tips for taking better pictures if you’re interested!

Food for thought:

Your Camera Doesn’t Matter

If you can shoot well, all you need is a disposable, toy camera or a camera phone to create great work. If you're not talented, it doesn't matter if you buy a Nikon D3X or Leica; your work will still be uninspired.

It's always better to spend your time and money on learning art and photography, not by spending it on more cameras.

Why is it that with over 60 years of improvements in cameras, lens sharpness and film grain, resolution and dynamic range that no one has been able to equal what Ansel Adams did back in the 1940s?

Ansel didn't even have Photoshop! How did he do it? Most attempts fall short, some are as good but different like Jack Dykinga, but no one is the same.

Cameras don't take pictures, photographers do. Cameras are just another artist's tool.

I met Phil Collins at a screening in December 2003. It came out that people always recognize his sound when they hear it. Some folks decided to play his drums when he walked away during a session, and guess what? It didn't sound like him. Likewise, on a hired kit (or "rented drum set" as we say in the USA) Phil still sounds like Phil. So do you still think it's his drums that give him his sound?

Oh my! I didn't realize I was going to open a can of worms (nor did I know there was a photography thread...)! So sorry! We took 100's of photos on our last trip to Germany & France w/ cell phones and we thought a small, decent digital camera might do a bit better. I fully admit I have enough to do without learning the intricacies of photography in the next few months, point & shoot is all I'm looking for! Nor are we artists or have aspirations to become one, and our talents do not lie in award winning photography, just wanted to capture a bit nicer photos than our cell phones did. I'll check out this 12max camera and do a little digging on run of the mill digital cameras for everyday use. Thanks for your thoughts on it all.

Sorry! It’s a passion of mine! That’s all that most people want to do. Yes, there is a whole Photography Board of people here who love Disney photography, in particular. I know you’re a super busy lady, so I didn’t mean to imply you needed a new hobby, lol. But there are plenty of quick, simple tips that almost everyone can use to get better pictures on whatever camera they have right now, or a new one, whatever.

So many people would come over to ask ?s on the PB saying they just bought new camera equipment but their pictures still aren’t coming out right. I happen to love that article and refer to it a lot when people ask questions (even though the author isn’t particularly loved in the photography world) because the jist of it is really true. People spend lots of money on equipment but in some ways they’d be better off spending an hour or two reading about photography principles or even the owner’s manual (more like these days, watching YouTube videos). At any rate, something to think about. These days I mainly use my phone for convenience, but DS pulled out one of the mirrorless PEN cameras we have the other day and took it golfing with him with the gorillapod. He got some nice videos, and then his Go Pro came in the mail. That little thing is amazing! I’m curious to see if there is any difference in quality.

We got the shoes and all is good. I had an online customer survey to fill out and the supervisor actually called as I was dropping my husband off to get the shoes. She was very nice and agrees that when the paperwork got screwed up someone should have contacted me. I have her name and direct number so we are good.

@Pea-n-Me - we did indeed post on the Photography Board and camera recommendations were enough to start a virtual WWIII. I do shoot with a Nikon now for a DLSR although I started with a Sony Alpha. I gave the Sony to my granddaughter with all the lenses and she loves it.

@easyas123 - You only need a point and shoot if you don't want all the bells and whistles with multiple lenses. I have used Canon, Olympus, Sony and Nikon for that. I am somewhat camera obsessed LOL. For a point and shoot I actually prefer Canon or Nikon with Sony right behind them. Of course it has been a few years since I went that route since I shoot with a DSLR and a long zoom lens for sports but the lens has a great range. I can answer any questions you may have but my advice is always go to a store and see the cameras in person and don't listen to the salesperson telling you to look at the megapixels. They seem to think that makes a great camera, it's only good for gigantic prints.

I did go out and take some pics of the creeks around here. They must have really overrun the banks as my shoes are a muddy mess. Thankfully I wore old sneakers and not flip flops. These sneakers are definitely my rain and snow winter shoes now. I always keep an old pair on hand for that.

Have a nice afternoon
