Have you ever eaten at Iron Rooster? We really enjoyed it a couple weeks back.

No, but the kids have been several times. Brunch I think...they RAVED about it. Im going back in a week or two, and at that point I'm thinking of actually spending the morning or afternoon down at the waterfront where I've been going.

:hug:Carol, at 4 some kids definitely want to assert how grown up they are especially if they will be transitioning from preschool into K. There are definitely times, I'd love to have a young child's energy level.

Lol to the name "Iron Rooster." I just Googled. It's interesting how business names can vary depending on location! I sure never heard of that place before or some of the other restaurants and stores shared in our thread. That's an extra way to get a glimpse into each of your states :)

Wishing all of you a good night!

Quick Hello. Been busy the last couple of days.

Had a pick up yesterday for church. Right now we have 180 pounds of baby carrots to give away on thursday. That is a LOT of carrot and those boxes were heavy. We also got 20 schoolbags with supplies to give out. The new hours have us a little busier but we aren't getting the food to give away as we used to get. In some ways that is a hopeful sign that things are normalizing but we still have a great need in the area of the church.

Half of the grandkids started back to IN PERSON school. They were excited. My oldest granddaughter is a Senior this year as well as one of my grandsons. He will be in school til he is 21 though for life skills. He is autistic and will need the extra help with that.

I got a phone call around the time my grandson MIkey got out of school. Somehow he got on the wrong bus and was a bit far from home, 6 miles out of his way. I had to run and get him. He is on the spectrum also but higher functioning usually. Somehow he got on a bus #58 when he needed to be on the #425. I told him he needed to be more careful tomorrow. We are supposed to get a ton of rain so I will be waiting for the can you pick up the kids phone calls. Good thing I have no life!

I am off to bed to read for a bit. Today is a WWII Historical fiction. I have a very eclectic taste in books but really like historical fiction. Hope everyone has a good evening.

So scary. DH's and my nephew, his wife, and 2 year old live in Hayfork near Redding. They had to evacuate for the Monument fire. They also have some cabins in Lake Tahoe which is now being evacuated by the Caldor fire.

My aunt has a cabin in the Caldor fire as well. She was not there, but says it isn't looking good. 🙁

Lil Joe came in from school and fell asleep within an hour of getting home. He is still asleep, would not get up for dinner. I hope that it's just exhaustion and not getting sick.

Hopefully he's fine. It's definitely not uncommon for little ones to be exhausted the first few days of school! It's a big change in schedule for them, with much more stamina required. (Plus many don't sleep well in the nights leading up to the first day because of nerves.)

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick note to say thank you all for your prayers. The power of prayer is amazing, esp. when we pray and then actually listen to God’s response…something I’m not very good at doing sometimes. I tend to think if my prayer isn’t answered just the way I want it to be, then God isn’t working on it/listening. Funny that I seem to think I’m in charge…:rolleyes1 Anyway, things in our house are slowly moving in a better direction, and for that I am grateful. We’ve been down this road a few times and this time I am in much higher hopes we won’t slip again. I realized that I def. am part of the issues (which I always knew, just wouldn’t admit) and everyone has to be one board with doing better for ourselves and each other.
I will, try to catch up with everyone’s posts tomorrow and do a better job of responding.
As always prayers and positive thoughts to all Quackers.

Mona..we actually have a restaurant not too far from here, called Road Kill Cafe. And it is just what it sounds like. They serve squirrel, rabbit, etc. We ate there once, well I should say hubby ate there. The menu made me sick just reading it and I think I had a small salad and a glass of water, lol!

Wishing all of you a good night!

Good wet morning all. It is dumping down the rain, and I mean dumping. I was going to take the trash down to the street until I saw just how wet it was. I don't think they will even send the trash trucks out in this stuff. If they do, I will just go online and sign up for a missed pickup and get it out tomorrow. I managed to feed the outside cats. Half were under the car, a couple were under the gas grill cover, and 3 smart ones were on the dry front porch, lol. I put food and water inside the wood shed, so they can eat where it's dry and safe. They say we might get 3-5" of rain, 8" in some places. I also saw the tornado watch out for east of us. I hope you all stay safe till it passes

I went to bed at 9:45, slept until 1:40 when Mr L woke me needing the commode. Just as I got up to help him , we had a power outage,,but thankfully it came right back on. I couldn't go back to sleep, and he sat in his chair with the soundscapes music channel on ALL night long. And I had 3 cats that kept walking over me in bed. I am drinking a hot cup of tea, made him a decaf one..and we are both going to try and sleep. Noone is coming today. The PT girl never came till after 4:30 yesterday, and when she came in she had her laptop open and some town hall meeting from the hospital going about 'covid'. She said she HAD to listen to it..and paid more attention to that than to hubby, and there was stuff in that meeting that noone except employees of the hospital should have been hearing. When it ended she had hubby exercise for about 15 min and then left, saying she had an hours drive home and it was already 5:30. She comes back tomorrow and then Matt will be back next week,,thankfully!

Have a nice morning all..back later after some sleep---I hope!

Rain is down to a dull roar..steady but not dumping like it was. I got hold of the trash co. and they said our pick up was still today, so I suited up in my rain gear (trash bag with holes cut out, lol) and umbrella..got the wheel barrel out and took the 3 bags down. This cold has me so drained of energy I just couldn't carry them down the long driveway. So they had better come and pick it up, or they will get a nasty phone call tomorrow, lol. Cats are outside playing chase in the rain now,,silly furbabies.

I slept from 6-8, sort of. I woke up about every half hour. Hubby slept maybe an hour. I told him to try taking a nap in the bedroom today to see how he tolerates the bed. He said that sounded like a good idea.

Off to fix him some breakfast, take some Dayquil and make a grocery list for tomorrow. Sister in law and niece are going to take me. Mr L says he will be fine alone for an hour or 2, and I think he will be. He gets around fairly well with the walker, and is itching to try using just his cane again. I told him to wait for Matt (PT) to come back next week for that one. I don't care for the girl who was here yesterday and don't really trust her yet.

Happy Hump Day :) .

I managed to sneak out for a short walk yesterday at work. Looked like it was going to rain at any minute so I wasn't going to press my luck. Got out for a good 30 minute walk just now. Going to be busy tonight, visiting my new great nephew, so I won't have time to walk when I get home.

I was told yesterday by my boss that we are going back to working from home 2 days a week . We now have to keep our mask on at our desk so he's letting us work from home a couple of days so we can get a relief from wearing the mask. Thank god, wearing a mask and glasses really hurt my ears!

Did some running around last night after work so I just grabbed Chipotle for me and ds. Tonight I'll make the chicken alfredo that I was going to make last night. My other son's dog is getting spayed today. Her original appointment was for October but back in July I was able to get an earlier appointment (today). Luckily I forwarded the confirmation to my son because when they got there this morning, they still had her for October and wasn't going to take her today. Thankfully he saved the confirmation so they did end up taking her. I'll stop over to their apartment tomorrow night and visit and give her the new toy I bought for her ::MickeyMo (a Mickey shaped donut). Grandma spoils her just a little ;).

Highs are supposed to be in the upper 70's and low 80's this week so I turned the air off and opened the windows. Hopefully they can stay opened for a while.

Back to work, everyone have a good rest of the day. :wave2:

Good Morning and Happy September 🐣

I'm happy to be able to send the book I mentioned yesterday onto fellow Quacker, Kirby :) When I have another book I think some of you would enjoy, I'll definitely offer it again. Thank you to Easyas for the inspiration to do this :)

Prayers to each of you for a brighter and healthy month ahead!

I will check back later! :)

The worst of the storm seems to be over here. Its almost stopped raining, the winds aren't as strong. The temp is 66 and it actually feels cool outside. Just went out to feed the outdoor cats, and they appeared out of nowhere, they know what time dinner is,,lol

Dinner here is going to be apple bourbon pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob.

Stepdaughter is calling her friend who has a hair salon and booking me an appt for a haircut..I just can't take mine anymore, It's more than halfway down my back, and I know it's causing some of my headaches.

Have a nice rest of the afternoon and evening..

I was told yesterday by my boss that we are going back to working from home 2 days a week

That is great since you prefer that. My office was supposed to have the grand reopening right after Labor Day but I believe it has been rescheduled. Most people want to keep working from home and only visit the office if and when needed. I have been going in all along for one morning a week. I asked my boss about just working in the office 2 days a week and from home the rest once the office reopens. He thought that would work. Most people will be doing hybrid. I would love to keep the one morning a week but I don't think that is going to be approved.

@lynxstch Glad to hear you are getting to have your haircut. It is so nice to have a fresh haircut. It makes you feel so much better. I hope you can catch up on sleep soon. It is no fun to be tired all the time.

I can't believe it is September already. My oldest DGD started first grade today. We will find out how it went this evening. Oldest DGS starts preschool/preK at a new school next week. He already did a year of preschool. Middle DGS starts preschool in 2 weeks. Youngest DGS will be going to day care/preschool as mom goes back to work for the school year. My youngest DGD is excited to be taking dance class. She is 2 and very independent. It will be interesting to see how the class goes.

It is sometimes exhausting to take care of the grandkids for a long period of time. I don't know how grandparents do it every day. I am still tired from watching and taking care of the grandkids when we were at the condo. We would take them to the playroom where they would run around like crazy and want our constant attention. We also watched them in the morning a bit while mom and dad got a little extra sleep. At least then I could put on the Disney channel and watch cartoons for a while before breakfast. The 3 year old DGS has quite an ear piercing scream when he doesn't get his way. Yikes!

Hopefully he's fine. It's definitely not uncommon for little ones to be exhausted the first few days of school! It's a big change in schedule for them, with much more stamina required. (Plus many don't sleep well in the nights leading up to the first day because of nerves.)
He's good. We checked him a time or too for fever before we went to bed. He woke me up about 10:30 - 11:00 pm. He got in bed with us for awhile and then went back to his bed. I heard him talking bright and chipper this morning. This is his third week of school. We're thinking it's allergies that is getting him down. It's ragweed season here.

@FROG, continued prayers. Thankful things are on the mend.

I tried to make my mom's coleslaw today. Major fail.

Good evening all.

@lynxstch - WOW! that is, I'm at a loss for words.

We have had 4 station breakthroughs to warn us of tornadoes. So far there has been nothing but we are getting torrential downpours and there are flash flood warnings for the whole area. I have to be out and about tomorrow so I may bring the camera along for pics. I will be passing a couple creeks while out. Trust me i Don't put myself in danger but I have always had a thing for that kind of photography. The worst storm I ever had to get through was a few years back. My grandson had a ball game and it was called before it started. The sky turned an eerie green color. We were at least a half hour from home and it was bad. I did get some pics of lightning which was cool but it was scary for a bit. The storm passed and the sky turned a weird shade of orange after that. Mother Nature can put on quite a show.

Just to show what I was talking about here is the green sky

The lightning, I was happy to get that as it was on my bucket list

And when it was all over the orange sky

It was colorful but I was thrilled to be home.

Saw the foot doctor today and that sore on my foot is 99% healed. Just need to put moisturizer on it 2X a day for the dead skin to wear away. He still wants me out of shoes as much as possible and keep it bandaged when I do wear them but I am happy. ANd Miracles happen - my husband finally gets his new shoes tomorrow. The foot doctor was not at all happy about how this played out but unfortunately we are stuck with this company for now. I am still debating having a word or 2 with someone high up about this whole situation.

The kids had a great 1st day and Mikey found his way home today. My daughter took him in this morning and showed him where to go and what to do. He joined the culinary club for cake decorating. My grandfather must be beaming down on him from Heaven. My grandfather and 3 of his brothers were all bakers, it's in his blood. I hope maybe this gives him a career goal. My granddaughter realized a former friend/bully is in 2 of her classes so we had a talk about how to handle it. I did tell her I would speak to the teachers involved if she wanted me to do that when I go to the back to school night. My advice was be polite but don't let her get to close again, that she is stronger than she thinks.

Well we had another tornado warning. Not sure how bad it is out there but I did hear some thunder. Hope everyone in the path of these storms stays safe. Have a great night.

Hugs, Lynn, I am so happy my friend you are able to get your haircut1 I completely understand about hair weight potentially causing trouble :( With my TMJ issues, I have to be careful to not wear anything on anywhere near my face or shoulders. My own hair now is simply a dried out mess that does feel like it’s just there. I will probably have to have my dad trim it sometime soon. Enjoy your cut for both of us. Oh no! That is awful about! :( Much prayer indeed.

That’s great, Snowysmom, that your boss is being so flexible! I can absolutely understand why most people (at least for the next year really) prefer to work as much from home as possible. Prayers for you’re a safe return to school for your grandkids! Lol, like I have said before, I sure would love some little kid energy at times!

Glad to hear Lil Joe is feeling better, Kirby. Sorry about the coleslaw.

Taz Dev, wow, what a scary looking sky! Please stay safe! I remember last year for a time the skies here due to fires looked so eerie and unhealthy. This was also back when simply being outside for a minute or two felt so unsafe in general so that only added to the unease. Hooray for new shoes and a good first day for Mikey, too, my friend.

Prayers for all of you in a potential storm's path to please stay safe and if possible stay at home!

Today here has seen both wonderful customer service from Pavilions and once again a fail from a third party seller on Amazon. The customer service agent was very helpful. I'm grateful the issue has been resolved. Lesson definitely learned to be very wary of ordering any unknown item, apparently extra if it is Christmas themed, from an Amazon third party seller! I am praying the magnets I ordered are going to arrive as I customized them to! Happy to be able to share the new postcards (of a different design from a different third party seller) came just fine :)

As a p.s. Do any of you know whether a 20% percent back on an ink purchase in Staples Rewards is supposed to be the value of 20% of the cost of the ink as an actual coupon? Similar to the inky recycling rewards. We will find out in another week when the last quarter's rewards are issued but we purchased our last ink from Staples because we believed we would be getting (I really did see somewhere on the account yesterday an $11.54 reward that has vanished today. I'm hoping that is because today is September 1st and it is being processed) the almost $12 like a cash coupon to use in store not simply a 20% coupon a a future purchase. Anyone know? Thank you, friends, as always :)

:grouphug: to all!

@Dead, I really hate tornado watches. All of you up there stay as safe as you can! I have a BIL and his wife that live in Front Royal.

DD called me on the way home from school. One of her students was out today because she tested positive for Covid which means that she has been exposed to it. She tried to find a place for her and Lil Joe to stop and get tested but everyone is booked up. Wal Greens is supposed to get some home kits in tomorrow. She doesn't think that she has Covid, I think that it's still too early for her to be tested. She doesn't want to miss seeing Mike this weekend.

Since dinner was up in the air and I didn't feel like cooking after my lack of success with the coleslaw, DD picked up something at Sonic for all of us.

Good evening.

Our phone has been going off often with the alert tone, either for a tornado warning or flash flooding. Our house is pretty high so we don't have to worry much but there are a lot of creeks over flowing their banks. A confirmed tornado touch down about 10-15 miles north of us and another in Edgewater MD down near where DS lives. He is fine.

Did hear that our nephew was able to go back to his home which was close to the fire but not involved.

Today the kids were here. DGD and I made sugar cookies. Made the dough in the morning. Rolled out, cut, decorated, and baked while DGS napped. We are on call tomorrow, DD is teleworking but may need us if something comes up she has to handle. Friday their dad is home.

It is sometimes exhausting to take care of the grandkids for a long period of time. I don't know how grandparents do it every day.
I know. Three to four days is my limit.

Hope everyone stays safe.
