Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good morning. It's the last Saturday of August. Hard to believe that we are almost up to Labor Day and the summer will be 'less than officially' over. It's going to be 86 with a chance of storms.

They sent niece home yesterday with a diet plan (like that ever works, she even goes to weight management visits, and then goes out to eat afterwards) and her promise to follow up with all of her appointments. She does that anyhow. My guess is between the 2 of them, one will be back in the ER within a few days.

Dave is coming over today to do a few things that need to be done. The deadbolt on my back door won't go in. I suspect the house is settling and the striker plate needs to be lowered down just a bit. Then he's going to be some kind of a stop on the bottom of the shed door to stop the rain. Even with a door sweep, the rain still gets under it during a hard rain.

Off to strip the bed, and sweep and swiffer jet the kitchen and bathroom floors.

Have a good day

Thanks for the tip dear PollyannaMom🌞How is your son doing?🙏

Continuing you always and extended family health prayers dear Lynn!:grouphug:

Quiet Saturday here. Dad, thank God stayed home and plans to do likewise on Monday as well. I talked with a friend on the phone earlier and slept, too. I may work on some mail later this evening. I did practice getting up from my recliner chair earlier more than yesterday--that is coming along by God's Grace. Have a good night, friends always with love and sweet dreams.

HAPPY SEPTEMBER! Wow did we have a storm just before dinner time. The sun had been out all day. With no warning, the sky got pitch black, the winds started howling, and the rain dumped down. Thunder and lightning followed. An hour later, the sky was clear and the sun was back out, just in time to start setting. I had to run out in the rain because the deck umbrella was pulling out of the stand and attempting to fly away.

Today is our last day of mid 80's for awhile. Starting tomorrow, it will be in the 70's, and I can't wait.

It's hard to believe that it's September already :(

Have a nice day.

Good morning. I can't believe it is Sept already. The summer just flew by. It is cloudy here with temps in the upper 70s. My car maintenance went well yesterday. I will probably have to have the rear brakes done next time I bring it in but not surprising. The battery is still doing OK. I did some walking and errands afterwards. Today I am going to see Kenny for a BBQ. He does not have the kids this weekend. Tomorrow I am meeting Jeff and family at the Ecotarium. I do not like driving in Worcester and have only done so once so this should be interesting.

Have a nice Sunday.

Good late afternoon and evening friends, I feel rested after an afternoon nap. Dad is napping as I type. He is staying home tomorrow. By midweek it is supposed to be close to 100 here! :) I won't be cold! God willng Sonia will have someone from maintenance come out this week to test the walls and bathroom ceiling. I will update afterwards. Extra Sunday hug to all.

Happy Labor Day! I, too, can’t believe it’s September already. Feels bittersweet. I love fall, but sad to see summer go.

Sounds like everyone had a decent weekend.

Our project is coming along. The storage room is all sorted out, threw lots away, so there’s space now and everything’s reorganized. I couldn’t find anything before. Today we clean it. Then I have the rest of the boxes in the main room to go through. We’re going to then move our treadmill down there to get it out of the apt. I’m hoping I have room for one more piece of exercise equipment there but not sure about that. We’ll put some things up in the cleaned attic and that will help with emptying out the apt so we can put the new floors down, paint it, and re-do the kitchen cabinets. And we still have to move drinks to downstairs fridge. DH went to Lowe’s and bought new plastic bins for our storage shelves. Got two just to start, for size, and they fit well so going back to get the rest this morning. We’ll keep canned goods and such in them.

DD took down all the curtains in the apt and she loves that it made it seem brighter and more open. I agree. She washed them all and will donate them, and she’ll clean the windows this week. She’s just a little stumped now on what to put back up there. (There are two bedroom windows, three living room windows, one bathroom window, one kitchen window, an outdoor door window, and sliding doors. Any thoughts? She doesn’t want sheers, which is what Mom had there. I saw a place nearby that will come in and help with ideas as well as measuring, design and putting up. That might be the way to go as two of the windows (kitchen and bathroom) are small and we want everything to coordinate. She may wind up going with custom shades. We’ll see. (Privacy is an issue as it’s first floor and facing the street.) I think we’ll also wind up hiring the service they have at IKEA for measuring for the cabinets. We sat down with someone there at the computer but I felt like it wasn’t right. We used the service for our kitchen and it worked out great, and is very affordable, so I think we’ll do the same again to lessen any headaches. She’s hoping to be in the apt by the end of the year, and I think it’s doable if we keep at it.

DD cried the other day, you should see the basket and note that a patient’s family member gave her. One of the nicest I’ve ever seen. The basket had all sorts of little niceties like drinks, hand cream, toiletries, snacks, gum, etc. And the card was super sweet. I was happy for her since she’s still on orientation for her new job and it’s not always when you’re feeling the most confident. So this was a nice boost for her - she’d made a difference. It’s so amazing when people take time to do things like that in the midst of a family health crisis! It can really be a boost to staff morale. And probably a needed distraction putting it together.

PollyannaMom so glad to hear your DS got a new job with better hours! Good for him. My DS had a great flight on Thursday and was all set to do his 50 mile solo on Friday when he got a text that the plane (same one he flew Thursday) had something wrong with it. 😬 Naturally, we all want the plane to be safe, but it’s so frustrating. My patient’s son this weekend was also in pilot training and said he has the same thing happen. They all do, apparently. Plane and instructor availability is tough these days, with shortages. DS was here yesterday and told me he has a coworker he likes a lot, had wanted to be a pilot so he always asks DS about it. DS expressed his frustrations and this guy told him everything happens for a reason and he just has to be patient - which, of course, is the same advice we’ve been giving him, too, so it was good for him to hear. DS’s current job is tough and he’s itching to move on. Saw some accidents come in this weekend which were horrific 😟 as well as patients threatening to harm him, etc.

I hope everyone has a nice holiday today. Take some time to relax and enjoy! 🐥

Pea--The low potassium is my niece, the heart issues are her mother, my sister in law.

As to the niece, they have had her on 2 different kinds of potassium at home. One is I think is twice a day, the other 3 times a day. This is the second time in a month she's been in the ER with it way too low.
They are both on so many medications, I couldn't begin to list them. Niece is having issues with Linzess. They halved the doseage but it's still causing issues.

Both of them are extremely overweight and that's not helping any of their health issues. Does she eat okay? Yes, if you consider eating out constantly eating okay, lol. The last time they told her to eat more fruit, so they went to the farmers market and bought everything in the place. My guess is most of it got thrown out uneaten.

Niece has to wear these pump things on her legs every night to reduce swelling. As to a diuretic I'm not sure, I'm guessing there's probably some in that pyramid of pills she takes several times a day. They both take every supplement under the sun, not sure they are all prescription, my guess is a lot are OTC. Everything someone tells them to try, they run out and buy some.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it, I'm worried about both of them. They just told SIL that she can't have the surgery to replace her knee until all of these other issues are taken care of first.
I realized the difference. 👍 Read your posts a couple of times before responding.

I hope your niece is doing better. You mentioned Linzess. Not something I was familiar with, but after looking it up, that absolutely could be contributing to the low potassium (hypokalemia) given it can cause diarrhea and electrolyte disturbances, which are nothing to mess around with. That’s why they halved it, probably. It may not be the drug for her.

Linaclotide (applies to Linzess) diarrhea. The use of linaclotide may cause diarrhea that might be associated with dizziness, syncope, hypotension and electrolyte abnormalities (hypokalemia and hyponatremia). It is recommended to withhold dosing and rehydrate patients if severe diarrhea occurs.

We had someone this weekend who was critically hyponatrimic (low sodium) and my coworker (and friend) caring for this person was super busy with it for the whole shift, as it was a medical emergency.

I hope niece can find ways to get her weight under control. Both of them. I know it’s not easy. I did have to chuckle about going out to eat after the weight management class, lol. I’m not always the best patient myself. 😝

Lynn I hope your niece and SIL can get on track with their health issues.

Flyingdumbo127 Sounds like you are working hard and making progress.

Good morning. It is 63 here today with temps heading into the 70s. I took a walk around the complex and it was nice to wear a light coat and feel the cool air. I had dinner with Kenny and his GF last night. Today heading to the Ecotarium to meet Jeff and family. I have the directions in my phone so I am hoping for the best. I am going to clean out my food cabinet and toss old stuff that got to the back of the cabinet and has been lingering for a while. Then I will bag it up and out to the trash it goes. I will admit to eating a bit off this weekend but sometimes I want to have a treat. I had a cheeseburger and fries. I rarely eat burgers but craved one. So, no more of that and back on track for me. Yogurt and fruit for breakfast today.

Have a nice Labor Day!

Aw God Bless both of your kids, dear Pea. They both are making kind differences as taught by your example. How are Toto and Grady doing?:dogdance:

Snowysmom, I'm not a fan of driving to unfamiliar tplaces or on more crowded roads either. Safe travel and fun day prayers. Thank you always for your kind words:hug:

Good morning and Happy Labor Day. As usual, Mother Nature seems to know what day it is. The day is cooler, the humidity gone and we'll only be 75 degrees. I'm going to do a little yardwork before it warms up more, it's beautiful outside right now.
Nothing new. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning

It was surprising comfortable, maybe mid 60's when I walked Chewie this morning. I do like the cooler weather more than I did when I was younger.

I went to church yesterday mainly because we had a meeting after, and my mom ordered me to be there. She was also having my cousin and a friend from church over to her house after and making dinner and invited me too. The meeting was for a luncheon after church next week to celebrate some award our priest is getting from the DAR. Evidently, I was volunteered to make a cake and pasta salad while I was in Alaska. I never got far beyond that because my husband fell while walking the dog. I was able to get my daughter to head over to check him while I raced home. She is minutes away while it takes me 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. Of course, I hit EVERY red light and got behind a bus. We wound up in the ER because he hit his head, and he had only been off the blood thinners for 5 days. Thankfully no brain bleeds but I was a little angry that they didn't even clean up the cuts on his arms. I missed out on the meatballs and stopped by Burger King for dinner. They had a special running. Of course, AFTER I paid, I realized that I couldn't eat half of the meal because of my allergy. I was so frustrated, hungry and exhausted I got irrationally angry. Jim didn't help any with his platitudes. I went to bed early.

My emotions just were on overload yesterday. Ella has had issues getting to school because the buses aren't running well. Then I found out that there was an issue with Ella while I was away that prompted my daughter to go to the police to file a complaint. Ella had a co-worker that she considered a friend. She told me a couple stories that made me question some things but not too seriously. I should have paid more attention. This "friend" is a 20-year-old man and she is a 15-year-old child. He was grooming her. While I was away, he evidently sent her some very explicit pictures of himself. He also asked her to send some to him of herself. Thankfully she told my daughter and SIL. I'm even more thankful that my daughter acted right away. In our state at least that is considered a crime, especially given the ages. Ella is confused because she liked this person, but is beginning to understand that he was after something he had no right to even think about. She also found out that he was doing it to at least one other girl she works with. The guy no longer works there as he failed to show up for his shifts. The employer warned Ella she could be fired, which my daughter and I are both angry about. Ella works at Sesame Place and I think they are more concerned about this getting public than they were about protecting my granddaughter. I told my daughter if she doesn't hear something by tomorrow we are going back to the police station. If they refuse to take this seriously we have connections in the counties sheriff department and my son will contact his friend that works there. I will also find out how to contact the DA in that county. This all happened outside Philadelphia in a neighboring county.

Thankfully in 2 weeks I will be heading to DIsney World and Ella is going with me. I can spend that time having some conversations with her about everything that has been going on, so she understands the situation more clearly. She is a lot like I was at her age. She thinks she is street savvy but is really naive.

I am going to just try and relax today. Not even sure what I want to do for dinner. It may be frozen pizza and a salad. Hope you all have a goo day.

@Pea-n-Me When you have a chance, do you know if Linzess also causes iron deficiency? My SIL asked me to ask you. They can't get straight answers out of the doctors. They are trying to wean her down on the Linzess, because she's been on it too long, and it's causing more issues than it's helping. She's down to half a dose now, and wants to get off of it completely, but they tell her you can't do it too quickly.
Thanks

It looks like the IBS itself can cause iron deficiency anemia, and so can diabetes if she’s diabetic. As well as a lot of other things. If the Linzess were to cause internal bleeding, that can cause anemia, too. It’s a complex issue that her team together needs to figure out. Ideally her PCP is overseeing things, knowing her overall health situation and medications, conditions, etc.

Taz :grouphug: I hope everything gets resolved the right way for Ella. I hope you have a nice trip to WDW with her. Good wishes for Jim and a quick recovery from his fall.

Good morning. It is 46 here right now with temps heading to the low 70s. Fall is in the air for a little bit each day. Yesterday was a nice breezy day. The Ecotarium was nice. It was not hard to get to so I liked that.. It was the first visit for Jeff and family. They had fun exploring and doing all the hands on activities. Today is another appt with the new therapist. I am not a fan of the type of therapy she does so probably won't continue with it after the first 3 appts. As I said before, I want to have time away from therapy, keep the grief group, and just figure out what I need myself. On the plus side I made reservations for a weekend NH trip over Veterans Day weekend. I am going Christmas shopping in the nice little stores in North Conway and the outlets. My friend who lives in NH offered to go with me and I am so glad she did though I was going alone if I had to. It is something to look forward to.

Off to work. Crazy short week. Have a good day.

Your upcoming trip sounds lovely dear Snowysmom and like one I would enjoy taking, too. I'm so glad your friend is going with you. Extra hugs and as always I am proud of you. Any healthcare professional as a late kind TMJ doctor once told me, needs to be someone you trust, connect with, and also feel God's hand in the partnership. Remember, you are the person not only paying for the therapist's services but more importantly allowing her the blessing of encouraging your growth. The fit doesn't sound right along with need for her type of therapy and that is more than ok. 🙏💕always.
