Congrats on your happy baby news Carol!

Looks like this coming Memorial Day weekend will be just "blah" in terms of weather. I'm over it, I'm done. I want some warm weather - no I want some hot and humid weather, I want to have a drag out over if we should turn on the AC in the house. I want to walk out of the house first thing in the AM and say 'dang, it's this warm already?" Or as my husband says, 'it's a Animal Kingdom in July kinda day"!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to go out to a restaurant and eat outside. I want to go shopping for some new summer clothes cause I threw out so many items in a closet cleaning kick a few weeks ago that I've been wearing the same 4 shirts for 2 weeks! I just need a dose of normalcy -
Ok - thanks , I'm done complaining about dumb things. They seem to occupy more of my brain space this week than they deserve!
Good things: My sunflowers & corn has come up. Pumpkins planted...yeah, a bit early but I decided to go for it. We moved the adirondack chairs and umbrella over by the garden so we can sit and pontificate over our awesome garden in the evenings. Then yell at the dogs for having a wrestling match in the middle of it.

Good Day, All!

Kept trying to post yesterday but got wrapped up IRL . Let's see.. I think the last time I wrote an entry here was Saturday so I'll start with the end of the weekend.

Sunday

Today the sky is looking pretty grey but guess it's nature's needs being met and since the weekend's weather was fantastic I don't mind much.

Went to City Island to stand at the gate of an acquaintance (Covid-19 makes for some strange social calls, LOL), chew some fat, enjoy the sea breeze. When we left their house immediately went for seafood. Normally for a day visit we head to the end of the main drag trying to find an advantage eating at one of the last two restaurants on the street at the water's edge. This time no such dilemma as both had queues that wrapped around their parking lots a few times over so we went to a different eatery closer to the bridge. Oh dear heaven above, we ordered with our eyes instead of minds! Didn't take into account that this place mostly sold full dinners instead of entrees so wound up with 5 salads, copious amts of rice, pasta, and fries; fried scallops, shrimps, whiting, white fish, and a huge tray of broiled shrimps, scallops, mussels, lobster, and clams in a garlic sauce. We'll be rolling around the house in barrels soon :rotfl2:.
Ubered back home with all the goodies and had just enough energy to put the food in the fridge but not enough to do more than open a smaller tray and have a collective pig-out, no plates, no eating utensils but plenty of napkins, LOL.

Monday

Fried fish with rice for breakfast made DGD a happy camper.

Broiled shrimps and lobster with a salad made her happier still for lunch.

She wasn't here for dinner as her mother decided that they needed to go to NC earlier than planned. I froze the remaining rice and ditched the fries that DGD didn't eat. The remainder will be on the man and I to eat throughout the week so at least there will be a minimum of food waste.

Spent part of the day trying to get through to the glamping site company but wound up sending an email since no one answered the phone. Apparently yesterday was their first day of the season so I understand.

Question of the day: 5/18: would you rather be the best play on a losing team or the worst player on a winning team?

We spent a lot hours watching The Last Dance documentary about Michael Jordan. Matt and I were talking about would you want to be Michael Jordan when Bulls weren't very good or the bench player when the Bulls were winning it all. I was very much I want to be contributing to a team that is winning and my husband wanted to lead the team to win. Go figure lol

I'd rather be worst of the best; maybe I'll learn something new in the presence of others and change my standing:).
Just to note: I'm not a team player and prefer to excel or fail solo.

Here's hoping all have a wondrous day filled with good memories.

AuntieMe3, belated Happy Anniversary wishes! And  for you and your dog. I hope and pray that all is well.

 to you as well, mommasita. Always good to sit outside!

Congratulations, Breezy_Carol!

Glad to hear good news about your friend, Tina!

I'm not sure about the team question. I'd rather not be on a team at all! I'm hopelessly uncoordinated, have no interest in sports, and am not at all competitive. I've already been the worst player...PE class was awful for me. Always the last kid picked, even on the very rare occasion I was good at something (like dodgeball). Other kids would actually groan out loud and roll their eyes when they got stuck with me on their team. So I guess I'd like to be the best player on the worst team. Would probably do wonders for my self-esteem.

Our state is opening for Phase 1 tomorrow. Should be interesting to see how that goes. They were going to open salons and barbershops but that now has been put off until June 1st due to pressure from stylists, who don't want to open yet. But we did see that the New England Air Museum at the airport is going to open their outdoor museum this weekend only, and they're only asking $5 per person. We might take Josh just to get out for a bit; we can easily social distance outside and we will still wear our masks.

I can't begin to wrap my brain around the idea that I could even meet the bar of qualifying to be the worst on any sports team, let alone a team that can score wins. Needless to say the idea of me being the best on even a losing team is so far beyond my wheelhouse it would not only need a different ZIP Code from where I am, would require a different time zone, and in all honesty probably would need to exist in a universe in a completely different dimension.

There was a time when I was decent enough on skates or a skateboard but I can't risk those now. Arthritis is making the idea of even nine holes of golf almost completely unlikely anymore -- particularly since I wasn't exactly great at it when my back and joints weren't stiff and painful.

The worst player on the winning team is still a winner, right? Sign me up for that!! :cheer2:

Taking a little break from grandparenting. This is exhausting.

So many things I agree with. I want warm weather to stay. I like it hot. I am tired of my winter wardrobe and want to break out the summer clothes. And your comment about the dogs wrestling in the garden made me LOL.

Thanks again for the all the thoughts for me and my boy.... My poor baby has an ACL tear...he's probably going to need surgery. 😟 Our vet sent his xrays to the doggy ortho surgeon for a second opinion so we should hear back Thursday. If he was a smaller dog, the vet thinks we could leave it be but he's just SOOO BIG its not likely to get better with just rest and its actually more likely to end up completely tearing causing more damage. He's almost 130lbs and if he stands next to me his back is up to the top of my hip(I'm 5'1"). My poor boy is miserable right now. Our sweet daughter offered to split the cost with us if he does need the surgery. My bosses dog just had surgery for a completely torn in half ACL, so its crazy this is happening now with our boy. When I'm working we're always talking about our special need dogs.... Her dog has seizures and our dog's Lupus. 🤦‍♀️

Happy Tuesday to all,

I have been so confused about what day it is lately. It seems sometimes the days just blend together. It's been gross rainy here for several days but supposedly warm weather is coming this weekend that should test the new a/c equipment so that's exciting. I've had way too much going on in my brain today so I scrubbed my ovens today and reorganized inside my fridge. Then I baked some protein muffins and trying to get my brain and heart to settle down.

On a positive note, our neighborhood did a pack a truck (normal truck bed) of pantry items for a local food pantry. There was so much stuff it took two trucks to take everything. That's pretty neat to see happening here knowing so many others are hurting and people willing to help.

Dinner tonight: fresh tamales I bought a few weeks ago and threw in the freezer and steamed tonight, rice and beans with avocado salad.
I really enjoyed it. I heard my husband really liked it so that's a win.

Gratitude:
Clean ovens and fridge
Good dinner
Coming together neighborhood

Question of the day: 5/19: Picnic time! What's your favorite picnic food?

Supposedly, maybe, the weather is going to be nice soon and Memorial Day weekend is coming! It's such a weird time but I was thinking about packing up a picnic and just getting away for a pretty drive and somewhere new to relax and have picnic lunch. I'm not sure what I'd want to bring. We are pretty easy food people. I was thinking about fruit skewers, mini meat/cheese board with some good bread, and cookies. If you were out on a pretty day, what would you bring for a picnic?

We've had warm weather for quite awhile now. It actually cooled down and feels much better......but the air quality is really bad.
DGS is over for the day and night......been swimming twice today. Played outside, watching a lot of Hulk

haven't been to a real picnic in years. I am not a fan of outside. The ones we used to go to were always barbecues, so burgers, dogs and all the things that go with that.

Dinner tonight is grilled steaks, sauteed mushrooms, corn on the cob and green salad

Love the meat/cheese board idea. I'll have to remember that for my next picnic. Sadly no July fireworks this year. But that is where I like to take a picnic.
My favs are:
Veggies and Hellava Good Dip
Chips
Brownies
Jello Jigglers

Hugs AuntieMe3, keeping Buddy lifted in prayer and your bosses dog, too.

Tina, I sometimes have to think about what day it is or the day it is (especially at the beginning of a week) often feels wrong because it has to be later in the week than it is. Time is definitely odd right now that is for sure.

I don't have children but am a big part of all my church's day camps. Different weeks of camp have different ages of kids. Love them all but it can be some long days for sure. Enjoy this extra time with kids/grandkids that is precious :)

I also have not been on a real picnic in years. Maybe 4 years ago now we had a parking lot picnic at church which was great fun. Everyone brought something potluck-style. Tables and chairs were set up in the parking lot. I would enjoy doing this type of picnic again. I brought tater tots to it because someone had asked me to. I remember not having an easy time baking them in one of our two outbuilding ovens. For our Maundy Thursday dinner which is indoors and organized by grouping of last names as to what you bring, I have brought anything from a few pizzas to sandwiches to mini bagels which were a big hit. I think for a picnic at a park what sounds good is mini bagels/sandwiches, have to have potato chips and maybe some fruit and home-made brownies. It seems like a lot of picnic stories in books I have read all have brownies :)

I am most grateful today for:

A package of books from a book site I am a member of and printer paper from Staples (saved a trip there)
A surprise email from one friend and a phone call from another.
Sunny but cooler day.

A real picnic? Haven't been on one since....right after we moved to Phoenix, so 2001. (I'm not counting campouts as picnics, haha) I think it depends on what kind of picnic, and where. Romantic? A meat and cheese board, good bread, some wine and fancy chocolates would be just right. At the park or beach with the littles? Sandwiches, chips, juice boxes and water bottles, cookies for dessert. Doing a picnic just for picnicking? fried chicken, potato salad (properly chilled, of course), soft rolls, and maybe some pie.

Taco Tuesday for lunch, from Tijuana Flats. No one was super hungry around dinner time, so we just munched on pb&j's, chips, and some carrot sticks. I'm enjoying some dark chocolate peanut M&Ms, and playing WoW right now. Finished the Coco puzzle, so I can start a new one tomorrow.

Well for years we always packed food to take to games, sort of like a picnic - eating out in chairs on the grass or in the stands. We got pretty good at it, too. A good insulated bag is key. Our go-to was either chicken salad or turkey sandwiches made fresh on site with Piantedosi rolls, chips, fresh fruit, maybe something sweet like brownies or banana bread, with iced tea or Diet Coke, etc.

Early games started in late February, and it would be COLD! The first year DS played in college nobody really knew us at that point. But even in the cold we packed things to bring, often supper if it was a late game. One time I made a corn chowder and threw it in a big thermos for DH and I. The people behind us said they couldn't believe it when they saw STEAM coming up from our blankets! :lmao: Of course we shared with them and later became good friends. Sharing is always part of the fun!
