Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

What a tranquil and beautiful picture, AuntieMe3. Congratulations to and prayers for your DH to absolutely quit smoking. I will always remember as a young child how my beloved grandma finally chose to quite permanently after my reminding her yet again that I wanted her to live and be healthy. May your DH choose health and to stick with his resolve! I can imagine such a choice is not easy but by the grace of God he can do it! I also hope you enjoyed your 🍨 treat. No longer eat ice cream really but Rite Aid was always very tasty.

Hooray for a new 📺remote Lynn. Big hug and I’m sorry about your other electronic trouble. Gadgets and devices are no fun at times that is for sure! Dad and I will be looking at Black Friday ads on a few things including laptops and refrigerators. Prayers that you and anyone looking for a needed item will find one at a good deal.

Thanks, dear Pea. Extra :grouphug:

Stopping by this evening to say hi to everyone.

We got a sudden rain/thunder storm this evening which knocked out our DirecTV for about 20 minutes, so we watched a Rick Steve's show on Wales, which we have been tossing around going to next year. Its been on the short list for a while. Now I'm Watching a Halloween Baking Championship episode- I've recorded all this season but I'm only up to watching the second season.

Dinner this evening was grilled chicken, potato salad & cornbread - inspired by my husband driving by the fire dept. chicken dinner day at the local fire department but not being able to stop! I think tomorrow evening will be cheese tortellini & meatballs w/ garlic bread and a salad.

Youngest received two job offers late last week, and this afternoon decided on which one would work best for him, he took the one that paid a little less but interested him more, and I think he made the right choice for him. He starts next week, so almost immediately. He'll be moving to the western shore of MD to be closer. I know he's been stir crazy and bored & ready to get back to work after mustering out of the Army, so I hope this position suits him well.

I'm a little disappointed in the TV offerings in terms of Halloween (scary/ghost/haunted/witch/death) themed shows - might have to spice things up and watch a scary movie this week. Which makes me think of a QOTD- Do you enjoy scary/halloween-themed type TV/movies this time of year? For me - I used to stay as far away from horror movies as I could get, but I always enjoyed stuff they'd show on the History channel and related tv channels like documentary's/educational shows on witches' or History of Halloween or Origins of Samhain and that type of stuff. Then I started reading a few of the books written by & about the Warrens and finally watched a few of the movies based on their books. I haven't seen many horror movies - just a few of the Insidious ones and a few others. I don't care for the gory ones though.

Well, perhaps I'll indulge in a bit of chocolate peanut butter ice cream to go along with my Halloween Baking Championship show! Have a good evening one & all -

I kind of wish the guy had just left the old router and not put in a new one. It does seem to connect to the internet faster, but the other one was fast enough as it was. Oh well,,it is what it is
We buy our own routers. DD is into that stuff. I've had a rental router from the cable company c*** out and it's just easier to do our own thing. It flips between near and far and I get great signal outside without an extender.
Leftovers here for supper. Had some more of the butternut squash soup for lunch, with toast. 🐥 DH told me I’m not drinking enough fluids. OK, lol.
Love butternut squash soup!
We got a sudden rain/thunder storm this evening which knocked out our DirecTV for about 20 minutes, so we watched a Rick Steve's show on Wales,
I've probably seen it as I love watching travel shows and Rick Steeves.

And.......tonight we enjoyed our third Hello Fresh dinner!

DD prepared all 3 and did a great job. All 3 were very good. Tonight we had the Chicken Satay skewers with rice and mini cucumbers and carrots. I've always liked chicken satay so that was an easy sell to me.

The other 2 that she picked were the Peruvian Chicken with rice and the Bulgogi pork tenderloin.

I was a little hesitant on the bulgogi as it's not a favorite style or sauce in general for me. But, this one was excellent.

She linked me online to choose next weeks dinners and had already chosen 3 but said I could change them if I wanted. I was okay with her choices. I probably would have chosen a veggie dish but that's not her style and I have those options available for other nights.

There is more food than I normally eat and less than she eats so it kind of balances out. But no leftovers!

I do like the giant recipe/instruction cards. It would be very easy to replicate some of the recipes. But, DD is more likely to just order the box.

That's one thing I really dislike is messing with printers I feel your pain. I have two printers, one for faxes and one just for printing. Comes in handy when one of them decides it doesn't want to work that day. The one I use the most just up and decides that it is off line occasionally. So annoying. And it always happens when I really need to print something out.

I used to like Cracker Barrel breakfasts but not so much anymore. Since the pandemic their menu is not the same.

QOTD- Do you enjoy scary/halloween-themed type TV/movies this time of year?
Hocus Pocus is about my speed. I used to like to watch the Halloween sit com specials but it got to where they were few and far between. I rarely watch regular tv anymore.

I fixed a breakfast casserole for dinner tonight. It was a packet mix that I purchased at the Christmas market I went to on Friday. It was okay but I wouldn't buy it again. It was definitely different then any breakfast casserole I have made before. Had rice instead of hash browns and the eggs were baked on top.

That's on Freeform right now - the Pop n' Knowledge version!

I watch Hocus Pocus at least a couple of times every year, and usually Halloweentown as well. I don't often go in for the serious horror films, but I do enjoy Halloween episodes of TV shows.

Good Evening friends,

No mail again today at least not yet. We are now expecting a package through the mail by Thursday so it will be interesting to see if that comes. Sure, hope so along with of course our missing regular mail. I truly do hope all of you are getting your mail and that, of course, some of it is truly fun and positive.
Congratulations Easyas to your youngest son:cheer2:Prayers that his new job is indeed a wonderful fit for him! I admit to not being a fan at all of anything to do with traditional Halloween. I have also never cared for creepy or scary movies or books so lol no help there. You please take care, always, and stay dry and safe on the road with all the traveling you do!

 Judique, I am truly glad that you enjoyed your Hello Fresh meal! Yay. Wonderful also that your daughter has taken the initiative and care to plan ahead for future meal orders.

Breakfast (or something breakfast-y as you had with your casserole) for dinner is often the best, dear Kirby! 🙏that you and your grandkids have a good and healthy week ahead, all of you family, of course. As a P.S. Dad told me Kroger (Ralph's for us) is trying to buy Albertson's (Pavilions or Von's for us). Have you heard anything about this? Thank you!

🙏you enjoy a good movie and cozy evening, too, PollyannaMom!

Sweet Dreams, friends!

Mona, there was a thread on the CB about the Albertson’s sale to Kroger. One of our chains here is owned by Albertson’s so maybe there’ll be an improvement! (Not a huge fan of those stores but I do have to go there sometimes.) What in the world is going on with your mail?? We haven’t had any trouble with ours, thankfully. We get mail daily around noon. They will also take mail we have to send (though DH goes by a small post office on his way to work so it’s an easy drop off and that way we know it doesn’t get lost).

@easyas123 I’m so glad your son found a job he likes. Good for him! That was quick! What a smart kid he was to join the Army! You must be proud of him. It will be so nice for him to enjoy the Veteran’s benefits. My Dad was in the Army and it influenced a lot of things he did in life.

@Kirby it’s been a while since I’ve been to a Cracker Barrel. We don’t exactly have one nearby, so I usually only get to go when we’re traveling somewhere. It’s too bad the menu has changed. I hate when places do that, but I understand why they have to. DH was chatty tonight about work. (Food industry. We sat in the sunroom w the windows open and masked - I don’t want him to get sick again!) One of their major suppliers is on strike, so everyone is having trouble getting ingredients. Prior to the strike, I guess they let go a ton of their drivers during Covid, and when things opened up again, they were making them work super long hours, and there are strict laws about that in our state, so everything got delayed even after open again. It’s a big problem! So they are unable to get certain things right now. DH said he needed 1000lbs of mushrooms this week 🤣 and he can’t get them! It then becomes a vicious cycle when he can’t make what he needs to make and there’s a backlog of ordered products. I suggested just going to get them himself and he said he won’t cross a picket line. I hadn’t even thought of that! Hopefully it gets settled soon. (I just looked it up and apparently 16 people were arrested during the strike today, yikes! Here is an article from two weeks ago if anyone wants to read it. No mention of the long hours, but I heard some of them were working 12-16 hrs/day six days a week, which is a lot. https://www.wcvb.com/article/massachusetts-trucker-strike-concerns-sysco-boston/41523117 )

QOTD: I don’t watch too many scary movies except maybe Pirates of the Caribbean or Beetlejuice. (I guess those are more funny than scary.) I can’t think of others right now (except maybe The Sixth Sense.) I did when I was younger, like the Exorcist, Carrie, The Shining, etc. (Carrie really bothered me!) DS has been into the new Ghost Adventures series (which he discovered while he was holed up with Covid). DH and I watched it years ago when it was on, and Ghost Hunters. We watched an episode last night with DS (in the open sunroom). I also used to like The Ghost Whisperer and some other shows like that, but I don’t find them scary. We like ghost stuff here. (And believe! 👻)

I realized that I am still going to be on quarantine for the kids’ birthday. Ugh. Normally I shop, so I am going to have to give DH a list of things to pick up. We decided to do steaks on the grill, loaded baked potatoes (a new way) and probably string beans or a salad, and ice cream cake (request). DD isn’t crazy about steak so we’ll probably grill her some chicken instead. And that will be their bday dinner, at home. We probably would’ve gone out but this will be nice, too. We’ll probably sit out by the fire pit for a while and have a glass of wine or something, too (or maybe espresso martinis).

Good night! 🐥

:maleficen I agree this is going to be one of the ‘cool houses’ to go to! ::yes::
Funny you picked that bouncing emoji...she's my one and only tattoo! We remember being kids and getting the yucky candy that sat and sat until Christmas, when you could safely rely on mom to toss it out, so you wouldn't have too much after Christmas (before that, you'd get lectured about waste)... you know, the Mary Janes, Milk Duds, those black and orange wrapped candies, hard as bricks bubble gum, circus peanuts.... We like seeing kids happy and going "wow!" Lance may act like a big old meanie, but he is a marshmallow from his head to his toes on the inside!

I like scary/Halloween themed shows anytime. Christmas shows need to be around Christmas, but scary stuff...sign me up! We started watching 'The Watcher' this weekend, and it's not a classical scare, it is definitely creepy. Bought 'Black Phone' on Amazon (was on sale for $9.99 for Prime members, and I had $6 in digital savings, so I paid $3.99 to own it)...it was unsettling, and a mental thing. But toss on the original Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, or H***raiser, and I'm a happy girl.

HF is where I picked up some new recipes for us...especially the vegetarian ones. I don't think my dad ever had a meal without meat, and I have struggled to find recipes that don't include mushrooms, sweet potatoes, or squash (zucchini is ok, yellow is ok, spaghetti is ok, i don't like any others at all). I do find I have to contact them at least every other time about some issue; this week it was bad garlic, cilantro and sage. ☹️

This week, we are getting the Vegan Coconut Curry Soup; spicy Balsamic glazed grilling cheese (we like the cheese, but this is a new recipe); the Spicy Tunisian Bulgur Bowls (which we've had before and liked); and Cauliflower and chickpea Tikka Masala (we like, but first time from HF). The week after, I added a meal, and we are getting the moo Shu pork bowls, Banh Mi meatballs, Greek Goddess Bulgur Bowls (all of which we've had before and liked); then new to us Thai Ginger Curry (had in a restaurant before and liked it) and Curried Chickpea Fritters.

Oiy, that is not good. My dad was a truck driver for many years (he wore a lot of hats...minor league shortstop, US Army, US Air Force, firefighter/assistant chief, truck driver) and he wouldn't have crossed the picket line either. People don't seem to realize that without those big trucks, things don't make it to stores, to warehouses even. A lot of places are having trouble getting back up to speed after being shutdown, and part of it is management realizing that they can make more money if they charge more, and pay less people to do the work...and people realizing that they should be getting paid better, with better benefits.

@flyingdumbo127 Go onto the USPS website and report you are missing mail on the portal; then put in a complaint and the post office will call you about it. We've had issues in the past, with deliveries, and sometimes it was the mailman putting stuff in wrong boxes; sometimes it was delayed due to not having anyone to deliver it, for whatever reason; and once, we had a mailman who was helping herself to the good mail, and tossing the junk. They won't know you have a problem, and won't be able to fix it, unless you tell them!
----------------

I asked Lance to stop and pick up some half n half for our coffee, on his way home from work yesterday. (saved me from having to go to the store on Sunday for just one thing). We use the half n half now, instead of flavored creamer, and add shots of flavored syrups (Torani and Monin). Right now, I'm having a vanilla/pumpkin spice coffee...yum! Anyways, he brought me home eggnog too! :cool1: He likes it too, but he said he bought it for me. LOL He then asked if I could make the eggnog pound cake and eggnog ice cream again soon. :rotfl2: Always a motive, I swear. I had a glass while watching the Broncos start strong, then fade into nothingness, as usual. I do not like the new coach; I don't think he is ready to be in that position; and the penalties are ridiculous! >:(

Our tv has developed a circle of light, almost center of the screen.; and a few dead pixels, this past week. I'm glad we paid for the extended geek squad warranty, and that the issue happened now; we've had this tv since 2017, and the warranty expires in January! Hopped on online and chatted with them about it; at first, they were all "oh, well, you have to call the store because you won't bring it in and you don't have a monthly service plan with us" and I went "um, it's 65" and while I could bring it in, the warranty I paid for said specifically that in home service for tvs 55" and larger is guaranteed"....and so now a technician is coming tomorrow to take a look. We'll see if they can fix it; if not, we will be ok if BB wants to give us a reasonable credit, so we can buy a new one. DH wants a bigger, better one anyways, and we were planning on using a bit of his bonus to do so when the Super Bowl sales start up.

Dinner tonight is an applewood smoke pork tenderloin, garlic mashed potatoes, and some sort of veggie (have to look in the freezer to see what I have). My game is down for weekly maintanence all day, so I plan on mowing the front yard today (it rained most of the day yesterday, so I couldn't get out to do so). It's 66 right now, but it's not supposed to get above 78; and tonight, the low is 39!!! I cleaned the house yesterday; all I have to do today is 2 loads of laundry, that I will do after I shower after mowing :crazy2:, and vacuum the living room rug. I did everything else yesterday.

Y'all have a good day!

Happy Tuesday! :cold:

It's cold outside this morning! My computer is showing 38 degrees, at least I remembered to shut the windows last night.

My dad was a truck driver for many years (he wore a lot of hats...minor league shortstop, US Army, US Air Force, firefighter/assistant chief, truck driver) and he wouldn't have crossed the picket line either.
My dad was also a truck driver. No way would he ever cross a picket line, he took the union very seriously. My grandpa used to be the president of the carpenter's union in Cincinnati.

I used to like Cracker Barrel breakfasts but not so much anymore.
We are a big Cracker Barrel breakfast family. I never venture away from the biscuits and gravy and Evan (ds1) doesn't get anything except their French toast. He's been that way since he was little. I'm sure the rest of their food is very good, Evan and I will probably never know.😊
so we watched a Rick Steve's show on Wales
This made me think of my dad 💙. He would always watch Rick Steve's. I think he enjoyed watching his shows because him and my mom used to travel to Europe before she got sick. Then after she passed away, he never traveled anymore.🙁

Youngest received two job offers late last week, and this afternoon decided on which one would work best for him
Congratulations to your son for accepting a job 👏. I know after Evan (ds1) was done in the Army, it took him a little time to find his way.

Tonight for dinner I'm going to make the stuffed peppers mix. I chop up the peppers and add them to the mix so I don't actually stuff any peppers. It's pretty good so as long as it gets eaten, I'll make it.

Last week I was so tired every day. Last night I decided to go back to using my c-pap mask and it does make a difference. I asked Mitchell (ds3) if he can still hear me snoring and he said sometimes but not every night. Tonight I'm going to wear my Fitbit to bed and monitor how much sleep I get with the mask on and then on Thursday night monitor my sleep without the mask. I already know it's going to be a huge difference. 😴

QOTD: No I do not like scary movies or shows. I will think about that every night while I'm trying to go to sleep and I will convince myself that someone is in my basement waiting for me to do the laundry. I have liked watching that kind of stuff and I never liked going to haunted houses. I used to go to them in high school just to impress the guys we were with.

Back to work, people are starting to arrive. Have a great day!

I'm not usually one to complain, but in this case I agree. It's sounds to me like your mail is going to the wrong place.

Good morning. Like @footballmouse , it's was only 38 degrees here this morning, and it's only going to 48 today. Definitely felt colder last night. I turned the heat up just a touch. It's so funny, we have floor vents in the dining room and living room. The littlest one of our indoor cats , named Bug because of her size, sits and watches them. When she hears the blower kick on and heat start coming up, she runs over and parks her little butt right on top of the vent. You would think it would be too warm for her, but she is content to just sit or lay there for 30 minutes or so. The last few nights, she's come into the bedroom, and curled up next to me and slept there all night.

Don can't decide which printer he wants, so I will just pick one. I can count on 1 hand the number of times he's printed anything in the last year anyhow. I know I want HP brand, and I know I don't want anything huge, but why do there have to be so many choices? It's like that with everything. I can remember back to when I was a kid, and went to the grocery store with my mother. There were like 2 brand choices for bread, milk, canned goods, etc. Now there are so many choices it boggles my mind.

Just now ordered one from Walmart. Free shipping and will be delivered here today from the local store. That will give me time to install it and see if it works, if not, it will be going back tomorrow when I go grocery shopping, lol!

@Bianca and Bernard --we have the same kind of tv warranty as you,,if it's over 55" they have to send a serviceman to the house. I am wondering what will happen in that case, as we don't really have any local tv repairman around here anymore. Would probably be like the floor inspector was, and will have to spend an hour or more driving to get here. Crossing fingers that we never have any issues. I hope they can fix yours, or at least give you a good refund to put towards a new one!

As for scary Halloween movies, when I was younger, I enjoyed them. Carrie, Exorcist, Omen, and Rosemary's Baby were my favorites. Now, any horror movies I avoid at all costs. I do watch Rocky Horror, Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, but that's as far as it goes for me.

@flyingdumbo127 -I agree with the others. Your mail issue is something that needs to be reported. If you have called your local postmaster and gotten no results,,file a complaint online and someone will look into it. They might do it quickly, but they will do it.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

This week, we are getting the Vegan Coconut Curry Soup; spicy Balsamic glazed grilling cheese (we like the cheese, but this is a new recipe);
I looked at both of those but decided they wouldn't be enough for DD. Maybe we can do an add on some time so I get to check them out. This weekend I'm going over to son's house to see my new grandbaby. Son and wife have done almost all of the meal plans. I'm getting ready to text him and ask if he has saved the recipe cards.
We are a big Cracker Barrel breakfast family. I never venture away from the biscuits and gravy and Evan (ds1) doesn't get anything except their French toast. He's been that way since he was little. I'm sure the rest of their food is very good, Evan and I will probably never know.😊

I only ever want breakfast from CB but love going there. I always get Uncle Hershel's with 2 pork chops and eat maybe 1/2 and take the other chop home. Why? No one else here ever wants pork chops. I get my fix and then some. This happens maybe twice a year.

Also, it's been quite a while as I do CB mostly while traveling. Stick my leftovers in my cooler. I tried to get CB food in January but they had stopped taking orders when I called and weren't seating anyone, due to lack of staff, around 6ish in the evening. That was in NC on the way back from Hilton Head.

We have one not that far away, but I don't go there. CB is a 'travel' restaurant for me. I want to keep it a tiny bit special that way as they are all up and down the highway going south from Maryland and I know I'm on vacation when we stop there.

Another 'spot' I like to go to as part of my vacation is Crazy Crab on highway 278 towards Hilton Head. Always order fried shrimp and sweet tea with lemon and try to sit outside looking over the low country marshes. Part of my vacation ritual.

Going to take my friend there for late lunch early dinner next month on our way back from Disney. We will be stopping at Fairfield Inn in Santee so then we can go straight to our hotel afterwards and get settled in for the night - after we pick up some pralines at Smith's Exxon.

Just now ordered one from Walmart. Free shipping and will be delivered here today from the local store. That will give me time to install it and see if it works, if not, it will be going back tomorrow when I go grocery shopping, lol!

I have 2 or (maybe 3?) Black Friday printer deals from Staples. The 19.99 final cost type and all are HP. I may have already sent one to Goodwill. I rarely print anything. I'll show the coupon on my phone, etc.

The ink is so expensive. I bought ink a year ago and next time if I run out of ink, I'll watch for a BF sale and buy a new printer, lol. I had to buy the ink to print copy of my taxes for my records.

Good morning.

Usual Tuesday of Welcome Center at church and yogi this evening. Do need to stop for gas and crackers from the Food Lion.

It was cold last night and predicted to be tonight. DH gets so cold at night we decided to put on the down comforter today. I procrastinate because it is so hard to put the cover one it. So DH said he could try. (And we are aware of the burrito method). Well, he just said he couldn't do it so I said I guess we'd sleep without the cover. Not sure why I am supposed to have the magic touch. I hate doing that one chore. Oh well.

QOTD- Do you enjoy scary/halloween-themed type TV/movies this time of year?
NO! Enough said. I have never watched Hocus Pocus. Started and made about 5 minutes. I could live without Halloween entirely.

Since the pandemic their menu is not the same.
Agreed. But I still like it. We used to get Momma's French Toast Breakfast and get the eggs scrambled. Id eat my French toast and bacon and bring the eggs home for Grace (the dog). She loved it when we went to CB.
But we have to shop first, ok?)
Do you mean shop in Cracker Barrel? I always end up with something from the gift shop.

Dad told me Kroger (Ralph's for us) is trying to buy Albertson's (Pavilions or Von's for us). Have you heard anything about this? Thank you!
We don't have either of those stores but apparently Albertsons owns Acme and Safeway in this area, neither of which I shop.

Fairfield Inn in Santee
We stayed at the Best Western Plus in Santee last year. It was fine. Have the Fairfield Inn in Savanah Airport area booked for this Friday.

Better get moving.

OMG--I just decided to give the printer I spent 2 hours on yesterday, one more shot (while the other one is already out for delivery, lol). I used the HP smart thing (which I tried yesterday),,this time it found the drivers and reloaded them..and the darn thing now works again? Took me all of 5 mintues. How frustrating is that? VERY! I just printed off my grocery list like I normally did. I want to take the new one back tomorrow..Don says keep it, it was a good price and we might need it someday. Geez,,I am glad this one still works, as I am used to it, have never had any issues, and the ink was a good price. I will wait till we have to use the new one and order more inks then. I don't like the sound of that 'instant ink' thing they have now. I don't want to pay a monthly price to get ink when I need it, and all the reviews say once people cancel it, their printers stop working..how can that be?
