How do you feel about the quality of either Martha Stewart of OXO brand? I'm looking at getting all new stuff for the kitchen and really liked things from both companies.

I haven't bought any Martha stuff, so I can't comment on that. I do have a lot of OXO stuff, and most of it is great! I have the black silicone(?) bottomed bowls in 3 sizes, love those. Pizza cutter - the black handle came off several years ago but I glued it back on, it still works. I have the salad spinner, love that. Manual can opener-great. Some of the tools are very bulky; the handles etc., I am very picky about design and space efficiency so if it too bulky for it's purpose I pass on it. Happy shopping!

Can't comment on Martha Stewart brand - but I would think that the quality may vary, depending on what store it is produced for. I would guess that the Martha Stewart items marketed at Macy's may be of a higher quality than those marketed at KMart, but I haven't bought from either so I don't know.

The OXO stuff I have is fantastic -- I refuse to use any other brand of veggie peeler after trying the OXO one. I also love the OXO manual can opener. It did take a little getting used to, but now I would hate to have to use a different one.

I have had a Martha Stewart saucepan for about 6 years and it has held up well. Also have one of her small enameled cast iron casseroles, which I really like. I can't comment on her other kitchen stuff.

I also love the OXO can opener and the salad spinner. I bought a set of spoons and spatulas two years ago as a birthday present to me(exciting I know) and I like them, too.

The can opener is awesome. I removes the lids from the outside - it doesn't let the lid slide down into the food in the can, but allows you to lift it off, and leaves very clean edges. The best!

I would like to hear about the Martha items, too. I saw some things at Macys this weekend that caught my eye.

I also have a lot of OXO, love it. I use the clear bottom of the salad spinner as a cake cover, and it works great! Of course, it also spins salads really well. :)

I too have several OXO products and love them. I will buy them again. Martha Stewart things are probably good quality but will not try them or buy them.

All of the OXO products are good quality. I have their stainless mixing bowls with the black rubber outside and they are my absolute favorites! I have tons of OXO kitchen tools and they are all great. I love the liquid measuring cups that show the amount from the top and side. I don't recommend their measuring cups or spoons only because the paint wears off in the dishwasher...get etched stainless steel ones.

The Martha Stewart stuff looks like good quality. I only have the silicone alligator oven mitts (that is what I call them)...I like them. I haven't tried anything else of her line because I don't go to Macy's much.

Granted, this has been about 10 years ago, but I bought 2 Martha Stewart lamps at K Mart. They were terrible. The design was bad. They were very top heavy and just kept falling over. One simply fell apart.

Another thumbs up for OXO here! I like my OXO paring knives even better than some of my more expensive ones!

They have very good prices as well.

Do you use cooks illustrated? They do equipment reviews for every conceivable piece of kitchen equipment, and usually the Oxo stuff is at least near the top if not the "best buy" option for them.

Haven't used Martha Stewart and won't unless it's for decoration. My grandmother has some of her dinnerware from a few years ago (my grandma is stylish, don't worry!) and she really likes it.

What do you need to replace?

I also love my OXO stuff! The can opener is the BEST. I've gotten where I seek it out now as my primary brand of kitchen gadget :) No experience with Martha Stewart's line of products.

I've been very happy with OXO except their kitchen shears. They're unwieldy and don't cut particularly well.

I haven't tried any of the Martha Stewart products.
