Quality of Drinking Water at WDW

Last time we were at WDW, we thought the tea and water tasted awful - some kind of fishy taste. We did not remember it being that bad on our previous visits. We would like to drink tea at our nicer meals, but not if it tastes that bad :(

Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

I just realized this is our 100th post! And just days before our trip!

It is pretty awful tasting isn't it? I end up buying bottled water (which I NEVER do at home) and avoid drinks that use ice...seems the ice is tainted with the same taste. *duh, huh? LOL*

Oddly, I've found the taste varies in strength from park to park, with the MK being the most foul.

Someone said once that it's the high sulpher content in the water.....but whatever it is, it's awful tasting. But it does make my skin and hair glow after washing in it for a week or two.
Take the good with the bad I guess. :D

I don't like the water from the fountains in the parks, but I have found the restaurant water to be fine.

I drank some water from a fountain at the Orlando airport once and almost died it was so nasty.

Being from another area of the country, we simply cannot tolerate Florida water. I'm sure it's all what you are used to. My DD-6 only drinks water (strange, I know), but she just couldn't drink any water at the restaurants and we ended up getting her a bottled water ($2-$3) at all our sit-down meals. Maybe, if requested, the nicer restaurants would use the bottled water for your tea.

Water is just about all that I drink, but I think the water in Florida is awful. The only water that I have had that I think is worse is in Philadelphia!

I figured out after a couple of trips that the Orlando area water made my tummy feel not-so-good! Ever since I started drinking only bottled water on WDW trips, I've been fine. I'm happy to shell out the extra $$$ for water that doesn't make me sick.

Erin,

DS & I agree with you. 7 years ago we figured out that something in their water just does major numbers on our tummies. We only drink bottled water, even brush our teeth with it and keep the ice to a minimum. We have never had any stomach trouble since.

Mousebrat - our countdowns are almost the exact same! Almost time for us!! :) :)

I'm from Fl.. so it's the only water I know.. I see no problem with it. I'd get a Brita water bottle for the parks if it bothers you.. but as for tea, I have no suggestions. Sorry. Good luck!

You beat me to it!

I was going to recommend the Brita filtered water bottles. I got mine for about $6-7. They're great for WDW, and other trips. Also, we like to pack powdered drink mix (Crystal Light, etc.) in our park bags.

Hope that helps! Off to double-digit-disco....:jester:

Hey, Philly water isn't THAT bad !! I'm still alive after drinking it for 35 years(LOL)!!! Maybe I' m just used to it though....:earseek:

Being from the suburbs & drinking water from a well, I have to say that Philly water is among the worst I've ever had - however, Florida's is worse! We found it was much worse when they were having a drought, though.

We also used the Brita filters on our last trip. They worked great! About the tea - you could try a couple sips of water before ordering. Sometimes the taste isn't too strong & the tea-flavor will cover it.

Have a fun trip!!!

we have well water that we have to use a filter to even drink so it makes wdw water taste good by comparison . no complaints from me! I usually drink water with meals and didn't mind it ,only got it from a fountain once at ak and no problem with that either so guess it's relative! usually i am "sensitve " to digestive problems with water ( like the water in the local town next door ...well talk about tummy problems!) but it didn't bother me at wdw.

I like Philly water too! But now my husband is making me drink bottled water all the time so the baby doesn't get any potential contaminents. (I think he's crazy).

This is what we do on trips overseas and to places with bad water. I buy a 24 pack of walmart or supermarket brand water. I distribute it into our various luggages. Like 7 bottles in one suitcase, 7 in the other, 5 in the one carryon and 5 in the other. So it makes the suitcases really heavy when you carry them through the airport, but they seem like feathers on the way back. A smarter alternative would be to do a grocery stop with a towncar service.

Watch out if you drink the water. It may take a few days, but it may hit your digestive system.
When we vacationed here, I learned it was much better to drink bottled water. (DH always does anyway. I USE to pooh-pooh that.)
When we first moved here we lived in an apartment complex just outside WDW. Even my dogs had problems after a few days.
I switched them to bottled drinking water.
In the town I live now, we don't seem to have a problem. The dogs and I ;) drink filtered tap.
The water does smell like chlorine. But Omaha water did too. Guess we are use to that. ;)

since we are on the subject of tummy troubles and H2O, is that pun intended?:)

We tried the water fountains in the parks last year, it tasted absolutly awful!! This year we're doing the grocery stop and buying bottled water and bring Brita's Fill'n Go water bottle.

We didn't get sick from the water at all, but after trying it, we went with bottled water.

We think that the water has gotten worse over the last few years. We do ok with water in resturants but this past year we found the water at WL so bad we could not even use it to brush our teeth. We had brought a case but ran out and ended up buying gallons in the gift shop to use in the room.

I thought the water was horrible. Water is pretty much all I drink, but I just could not stomach it at WDW. A few times in the hotel (poly) I'd drink the tap water with my vitamin and just about gag. I ordered a coke once because the water was so bad and I noticed that even that tasted funny, not sure if the ice is made with their water or what. At MGM I did fill up a water bottle from a fountain and that was ok... not great but not as nasty as the hotel or MK. I used to live in FL (northern) and the water there was fine.

The park fountain water is undrinkable!!!! Thank heaven they sell Dasani.
