QANTAS/AA- Do you have to pick up your luggage at DFW? (And other dumb questions)

This might be me being dumb but I'm a little confused. On the QANTAS website it says:

if both your flights are booked on the same single reservation and your flights are all with Qantas or Qantas and another oneworld® airline your baggage will be transferred between flights for you. You may need to check-in at the connecting point to obtain your next boarding pass from another oneworld carrier.

I have read a couple of posts on here that have stated they have picked up their luggage at DFW. Can someone clear that up for me. I suppose I could try contacting QANTAS:lmao:

You need to pick up your luggage at the first airport you arrive at in the USA no matter who you are flying with or where you are going as you are entering the USA and need to go through all the immigration, agriculture etc checks.
However, no matter who you are flying with or where you are going your checked bags should be ticketed through to the final destination at check-in for your first flight, in which case there should be a bag drop area after you exit the immigration, agriculture etc checks.

Thank you so much. That makes sense. Originally I thought it would be logical to pick up to go through customs at first port. Then QANTAS makes it sound as if you don't giving you the least info possible to ensnare you. Then I read you do. Then I read somewhere else you get "checked through" which confused me. Now I see that you have to pick up your luggage but they don't have to be checked back in. Again thank you :flower3:

Ok another dumb question (thought I'd keep them all on one thread). QANTAS/AA flights don't have to pay baggage check fees do they. I came across the baggage check fee issue when I was looking through DME info.

Booking all your flights here on the "single" booking, means that you have an international ticket, so your baggage allowances are the same on AA as they are on QANTAS, including no fees (excess fees still apply though). Last trip went Syd-Orlando, Orlando-San Fran and LA-Syd all on the one booking and the baggage allowances and free baggage went all the way on the AA legs.

The baggage drop at Dallas is perhaps 20-30 meters after you come out of immigration/customs. You don't have to take them far at all. It's straight in front of you as you exit.
