For those who've stayed here has it felt worth the extra £200-300 over the HNY for a couple of nights? DH & I both fantasised about staying there but it would really have to be worth it for that kind of money!
We are considering (well, if I'm being honest, I'm considering!) going on our own and staying here with AP discount.

We stayed there in Feb having stayed at the HNY last year. The location of DLH is fantastic but I personally preferred the decor of HNY. Also staying in DLH I did sort of miss the walk through the Village back to the hotel. Would stay in either again but I don't think I could justify at least a couple of hundred quid for DLH, I would rather put the money toward another trip!

Good to know, thankyou. So many decisions, so many possibilities!

I've been wondering the same thing. Love the HNY, but I really want to stay at the DLH one day - then I would have tried all of the onsite hotels too.

I've got a significant birthday coming up next year, and I can't decide whether to go for a regular room at the DLH (I just can not bring myself to pay for Castle Club!) or maybe see what the prices are like for the new Empire(?) Floor at the HNY.

It's unlike me really to be considering the DLH - seems such an awful lot of money to spend. But we spent our whole trip in Feb wondering what it would be like and if we were to go without the kids (a whole other guilt-ridden thread in itself really!) that would seem to be the ideal opportunity.

Hi

We stayed at the DLH a couple of weeks ago, having previously stayed once before in the Sequia Lodge. We have not stayed in Hotel New York so cannot compare, but can say we absolutaly loved the DLH and cannot fault 1 thing about it. We particularly loved the closeness o the parks and the fact we always felt we were part of the park. What better way to have breakast than overlooking main st and the castle and to walk through the hotel at night and see the castle and park lit up. It cost about £300 more than Sequia Lodge/Newport bay and I defnatley think it was worth it.See my trip report for more info.

We stayed at the DLH a couple of weeks ago (9th - 12th March) and thought it was a great hotel and the closeness to the parks was a big plus for us as it rained a lot & was quite cold, it was great at the end of the day to be back in your room in a minute or so. For the dates we went there was the Free night offer - we stayed 3 nights/4 days & paid for 2 nights/3days. Also this could be combined with the Kids under 12 Stay & Play Free offer, so it worked out a surprisngly affordable trip for us (as both our children got to stay for free). It worked out round about the same cost as our trip last year when we stayed at Sequoia Lodge in May (no free night offer then, Kids Free was for under age 7, so we had to pay for our DD, DS was free).

I definitely would love to stay at the DLH again but it would depend on what offers were available.

I can only sign what aoifesmom said. We stayed at the HNY and DLH. Both are great hotels. But the DLH is so magical. You feel like sleeping in the park. And it is great to see the Castle and Mainstreet in the morning while you are having breakfast. And the hotel can be very usefull if there is rain or if it is very hot outside. Then you are in your room within 4 minutes and you can refresh or heat up yourself.

We're a bit biased as we've only stayed in DLH. But we have had a look round the other hotels, either for special Xmas meals or just to nose. I'd say its definitely worth the extra - you really can't beat staying at the Park gates - its the only Disney where you can do it.

I would suggest however that if you're splashing out its worth faxing in advance to ask for a room in an area you'd like to stay. We'd recommend the ground floor of the west wing. We stayed there as did crmscotland and its in her recent trip report. You have a patio, are close to the pool and there is a door to the park seconds from your room.

You can't guarantee getting a room of your choice if you fax in advance, but the staff do their best to accommodate you.

I don't know about you Cathy, but everyone is doing a great job of selling the DLH to me!! :teeth:

I remember there being a thread about staying in this area at the DLH - which I think you posted on at the time, Andy. Weren't there also some photos?

I have a vague recollection, and there may have been photos - but they weren't ours. Crmscotland has some from inside the room in her trip report. Its also worth mentioning that there's an area with sofas and coffee table by these rooms where the corridor forks

Thanks for that tip - might just be doing that!

...And I'm beginning to feel a bit better about booking our one night for Halloween, despite the fact that it's costing £100 more for just that one night, than the other 5 nights we are staying at My Travel Explorers altogether!!!!

Aaargh!!

I meant to add before that another thing we really liked about the DLH was that we didn't need to decide beforehand on a time for breakfast - you just turned up when it suited you, anytime between 7am - 11am. Does someone who has stayed there in peak season know if that's what happens all year round or just at quieter times of the year?

We never had to queue to be seated either. :thumbsup2

I havent stayed in either but i think if i had the money i would stay in DLH, just for the experience really.

We were there at Christmas and it was the same, you just turn up when you want. One time when it was really busy they also used the breakfast area of the suites that's on the opposite side of the corridor just beyond the bar. We ate in there one day and it looked very similar to the pics of the CC breakfast room just posted.

Me too ~ as I haven't stayed at either DLH or HNY I can't contribute anything useful to this thread other than to say Becky and Cathy, go for it and treat yourselves!! :)

At both the DL hotel and the hotel NY you do not have to book for breakfast, you just turn up when ever you want to.
