Put Liquor in checked luggage

Just back from Orlando. My siblings and I just had carry on luggage. We were there for 10 days.
Made the mistake of buying liquor at ABC and not at duty free shop and had it taken by USA security at airport when they scanned our luggage. We could have put it in checked luggage but we got our Air Canada tickets on line and got a cheaper fare because we were using carry on luggage instead of checked so we didn't have that option unless we wanted to pay $50.
Lesson learned: should have checked with Air Canada beforehand
Even with duty free liquor, it has come back in checked luggage.

Thanks for the info--lesson learned for everyone here as well. Other than that, how was your trip?

good tip! same thing on our trip: brother bought some souvenier type limited edt. coke bottles sealed, but yes with Coke inside...and we were watiing to go thru security and he said 'i should have put these in checked shouldn't i have'

luckily he figured it out, and we took one of our carry ons and went and checked it wtih the bottles wrapped safely inside.

luckily we had no problems!

Hi

Other than the liquor fiasco, our trip was wonderful. Check out our visit to Universal under the Universal thread (trip reports). My brother bought a house in Fort Pierce so my sister, other brother and I visited with him and his wife there for a week then headed to Orlando for 2 days at Universal Studios. My oldest brother (the one with the house) drove us and stayed with us at our hotel for the 2 days. We stayed at Fairfield Inn and Suites on Canada Drive and it is a great hotel. Shuttle service to park was outstanding and the free breakfast was quite welcome. My only complaint is that the sign showing Canada Drive is so small that we missed it altogether and had to ask for directions to the hotel. We arrived just after the tornado so our first day at F.P. was cool and windy but the rest of the time the weather was great. Came back sporting a nice tan!!

Where do you live in Nova Scotia by the way? I'm in Halifax.

Sounds like a great trip! I'm in Sydney but we temporarily lived in Halifax for a few years after graduating from university. Love the city!:goodvibes

I'm from New Waterford originally. Have lived in Hfx for 30+ years.
Looks like you go to Disney a lot. I assume you have children, how old are they?
We took our daughters to Disney, the most recent visit was some 10+ years back. It was fun except we went at Christmas (Must have been insane at the time)....

We took our oldest daughter the first time when she was 4. That was a better trip because we went in the spring. We had a lovely time!

My kids are really adults--DS turned 20 last week and DD is 17. We are all Disney fanatics (including my husband) which makes it easy for planning. Can't wait for our next trip in 67 days!!:goodvibes

We purchased duty free in Cancun, initially not a problem but we had a connecting flight in Miami. Had to quickly adjust luggage contents in order to move the liquor into our checked baggage.

Even with duty free liquor, it has come back in checked luggage.
This isn't true. If you purchase liquids after clearing security you can carry them on to the aircraft. I did this yesterday. It is only liquids purchased before security that need to go in your checked luggage.
