Purchasing DVC from Disney on a Credit Card.

Right.

You all might think i am mad but i am thinking a purchasing 160 AKV points from disney on a credit card.

And i am thinking of the best way to pay for it and i was wondering if Disney will let you pay for the whole lot on Credit card.

This for 2 reasons.

1) I expect the exchange rate will be better as it is not a cash rate!!!

2) I will get 12 months 0%


Does any one have any thoughts or experiences on this?

I've paid for each of my add-ons with a Nationwide credit card to get the best possible rate. I can't see why Disney wouldn't allow this so long as you have the required credit limit, but I'm sure someone else will come along if there is a reason why not.

If you've got a 0% deal for 12 months and are happy with your financial position, then I think it's a good way to purchase

When we bought back in 92 the credit card was the only way to do it because you couldn't get a loan from Disney or buy once you got back to the UK. We have also financed a Marriott timeshare on a credit card so it should not really be a problem - after all they take credit cards for everything else!

When I purchased back in 2002 it was the easiest and most cost effective way. Also my CC limit was less than the total cost but they let me pay half one month clear my card then pay the other half the following month.

We paid for DVC with a credit card and we did have an issue.

DVC charged us the wrong amount (in Dollars) and we never noticed (only a few dollar difference), the next day they noticed (presumably when the paperwork got to the accounts department) and they credited the credit card back the correct amount (in Dollars) and then finally debited the amount they should have done (in Dollars).

Now, after all that the dollar amount on the card was correct BUT because they'd credited the original amount (instead of cancelling the original transaction) and they were done on different days the three transactions had three very different Pound conversion rates. The overall cost in Pounds was arround £600 pounds more than it should have been if the correct amount had been charged in the first place. It took 12 months to get this money back and it was paid by the credit card company instead of DVC. The Credit Card company took ownership of the problem almost straight away, but then proceeded to not keep me informed or do anything until 12 months later when they 'wrote-off' the debt - I hadn't been charged any interest on this amount.

The moral of the story is, it's easy to pay by credit card but make sure they charge the correct amount!

This is what we are going to do if we decide to go ahead - we will be using mostly cash from savings so will just put it on the card to earn the points and then pay it off - off course you can always transfer it to a 0% balance transfer card afterwards although most have a handling fee on the transfer.

When we bought 330 points in 2006 we ended up buying it using 2 cards and four transactions due to the max transaction on the cards being below the total amount.

We paid a load of cash onto the cards rather than taking TTs or doing a bank transfer as we thought it would be easier (Capitalone got really stressed about me going into positive balance though).

Disney didn't have any trouble with it, in fact our agent (Jim McCoy, great guy I highly recommend him) bent over backwards to handle the screwy payment method.

So as other people have already said. I don't think Disney care how you pay for it as long as they get your cash.

Just remember dues are in advance...
