Ok, maybe I'm crazy, but we just made our final payment and chose not to purchase the insurance. I know at the point when I made the decision not to purchase it I understood the terms, but now I forget. If something happens and we are unable to make our trip, do we lose everything, or do we lose our $200 deposit? What is the charge to make changes to our ressie from this point forward? Anyone else not purchase it? Thanks for the help :)

(I apologize, I know this topic has been covered before, but when I searched for 'insurance' all it gave me was pages and pages of threads regarding health insurance or DCL stuff.)

Different conditions apply if you book the room separately than if you book the entire trip through Disney Travel Company. In either case, you have a certain number of days before the reservation in which you may cancel. The air portion of the trip is where the real complications can come in.

We are booked through the 5 + 2 Dream Maker. No air reservations, but the hotel and tickets are booked through Disney Travel Co. I know the balance is due 45 days out which is Tuesday, but we paid it all today. So now I didn't know the policy from this point forward as far as making changes or if something happens that we cannot go.

Trip insurance covers anything that you won't get back if you cancel. I don't know how it works with Disney, but it'll either be completely nonrefundable at this point or they'll have a tiered system (if you cancel between x and y days prior you get 50% back, if you cancel between y and z days prior you get nothing back etc.)

Now for my lecture, to anyone else thinking of not purchasing insurance:
For my clients that don't purchase cancellation insurance I have a very long, detailed waiver form that they must sign so I have a copy in my files. It details what the insurance would cover, how much they stand to lose (ie the cost of their trip) and how much the insurance would cover. This is in case they have to cancel their vacation and try to say that I didn't tell them what the penalties were.

I'm working on a big group to the Caribbean at the moment, just got it all finished up yesterday. Almost 20% of them declined the insurance - which was packaged cancellation and medical - and I just don't understand why. When I explained the cost and the risk factors to one she said "Well I have to go, I'm the maid of honour, so I know I'm going so I don't need the insurance". To me that's like saying "I know my house isn't going to burn down, so I don' t need to buy house insurance". There's absolutely no way of knowing if something is going to happen and you can't go, and the cost of the insurance is minimal compared to the cost of losing all that you've paid for your trip.

:Pinkbounc Still waiting to see if anyone has an answer. Maybe I will just call CRO :)
