Purchased 100 Points Resale. Can I Now Buy 50 Points Direct?

My husband and I own 250 direct points at Grand Floridian for a February use year. But last month, we decided to purchase 100 points of Boardwalk through resale with an October use year. My question is - IF we were to go through Disney direct, would they permit us to purchase only 50 points because we now already own 100 points (even though those 100 points were purchased through resale)?

Last time we were talking to a DVC guide, they explained that to buy into Boardwalk for an October use year, we would have to purchase at least 100 points. I did not ask if those points had to be through Disney direct or if they could be resale. But in the end, we bought resale. So, if we want to add on through Disney direct, are we allowed to purchase only 50 points or would be have to purchase another 100 points?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Since you’re already an owner - you can buy the owners minimum direct - doesn’t matter if your original 100 was resale or direct…

Good to go! Great taste in home resorts! Although…. the BW direct pricing with the number of years left… 😱

Thanks for all the input. I think we will proceed with another resale contract. It is just hard to find the exact contract we want. Wrong use years, too many points, etc. Disney makes that part easy, but I agree, the direct pricing is high. Because we were only looking at 50 points, I thought it would sting less. But you are right. It doesn't make financial sense.

You want to add 50 BWV direct or some other resort?
You can buy anything you want direct, but as you already said BWV is not worth it direct.
You don’t have to own anything specific to be able to add on. Once you are a member you can add on any amount at any resort. (there are some minimums, but 50 is good to go anywhere)

I think they were wanting the 50 direct points for an October use year. That is why they would have had to purchase the minimum of 100 points. If they were adding on to the Feb use year they could add on 25-49 using cash or 50 above with cash or financing.

Now that they have a new membership number to go along with the October use year they are free to add on to it in amounts less than the new member minimum.

To top it off it’s not the like the 50 points will get you any benefits either because you’d still need another 100. The only benefit would be being able to book RIV, VDH and CFW but that’d be a poor use of BW points lol. Resale is definitely the way to go here and keep the 5k+.

They already have a blue card with the February use year. They previously purchased 100 points in an October use year and I’m assuming they only wanted 50 more. With an October use year it is hard to find small contracts and Disney would allow this to happen and do so almost instantly but as others pointed out a resale contract with more points would cost less than direct (except for the dues on the extra points of course).

Oh woops I apparently didn’t bother reading the whole thing while I was half asleep this morning

If you are not finding what you want on the Broker sites, check Facebook groups too. Just be certain ANY resale purchases go thru a legitimate DVC experienced escrow, no matter where you buy. 50 point contracts are out there in pretty much every Use Year, you might just need to watch for a few months.

Like others have mentioned, Boardwalk as a 2042 resort just does not have enough years left to justify $240 Direct pricing to most of us (resale prices were fine for me, since I really wanted that 11 month priority). I paid higher for small contracts - but not $240 ;)

One "fine point" which seems to confuse new people - once you have a Use Year in your name thru either Resale or Direct, you CAN add on to that with Direct in small point amounts (any resort - although some of the older resorts stop direct sales off-and-on, be patient). When you contact a Disney Guide for an "add on" it must always be in a Use Year you already own, or you'd have to buy the minimum number of points any new person does. Just one of their weird quirks.
