Purchase SW Points With Discounted SW Gift Cards

From time to time, Southwest will offer additional "bonus" points when you purchase points. Has anyone purchased points during this type of promotion using discounted SW gift cards?

I have previously tried to make the math worth and just do not see the benefit.

I cannot make the math work to see the benefit either. I often wonder how many people actually do this.

I'm fairly certain that you can't use gift cards to purchase points.

Because I like to "play the game" with my airfare (on my last trip, I got 9 price reductions between the time I booked the flights when they first became available and the time we flew), I would rather be playing with points (which get deposited back into my account) rather than credits (which have to be used by 1 year from the time you booked the original flight). The last time I purchased points, I needed to use a credit card to do so.

I wish that I could "double stack" and purchase the points with a gift card.
