We are currently wanting to do small add-on direct- I have already decided direct and I know all about resales. I currently own 100 points at VWL with a Sept. use year. Originally we wanted to add on 30-50 more with the same use year and were planning to get this year's points too if we got in before the end of August with that Sept. use year. Found out from my guide that there was no way we were gonna get sold out points that fast so now we are reevaluating. I really want the extra points to use for a vacation next summer so I am not sure what to do. I know if I buy at AK I can get them no problem but I really am not interested at ALL in buying there. That leaves my option as VGF. So my question is if I purchase before the end of August with a Sept. use year will I also get this year's points and then the next again in Sept. (esentially getting two years of points) or won't I because the resort if not technically open yet? Trying to figure that out and any help is appreciated.

You will get points Sept 2013 then September 2014.

You want to buy direct but they don't have the resort you want, so you are willing to own contracts for 50 years at a resort you don't want to get 50 extra points this year?

Doesn't seem worth it to me.

VGF will not give you the points that you are looking for. Since it doesn't open until Oct of this year there are no 2012 points and Feb and March UY's aren't even getting 2013. Only AKV or Aulani or any other resort they might have points in your UY available but I don't think it's worth owning someplace you don't want to for 2012 UY points.

You might be better off looking for a point transfer since you don't wish to purchase AKV and then get on the waitlist for VWL points as well as keep an eye on resale for getting more points there.

If you don't want to wait for the right resale contract at the resort you like is it possible for you to use your points and then also RENT whatever other points you need for a vacation next summer?

Think about why you want the extra points. If it's just for the one vacation, you would probably be better off renting or getting a transfer.

If you see yourself wanting the points for more than the one vacation, remember 30-50 really isn't many to work with if you want/need home resort priority.

Will you be OK with trying to complete a booking at 7 months? If not, stick with the VWL. Getting 30-50 "extra" points one time by buying before 9/1/2013 may not really be the best deal. Remember you will have to pay pro-rated annual fees on them as soon as you get them.

Why not just pay cash for a room for the nights you are short?

Buying VGF seems radical to me. 30-50 points at VGF will not go very far at VGF, so unless you plan on adding on later. However, if you wouldn't a short stay at VFG every 3 years....

Or do something else, being in DVC does not mean you HAVE to stay DVC

I don't want them for just one vacation- that was just a bonus. We have been planning to add on for awhile but I was planning to rent points anyway and I thought this way I could avoid renting and wasting that money. I guess I should have also clarified that I don't dislike VGF at all I just don't really want AKL. I also know 50 points at VGF won't get me very far but we only travel every 2-3 years and I bank points so I would either stay a night or 2 there or change at 7 months out. I was planning to try and switch to BLT for next summer anyway. I have 300 points available but only needed 70 more to get a 2 br for the week and I imagine that is the situation we will be in. At this time we are not a family who will go each year so this works for us.

One of you did answer my question which was would I get the 2012 points like at AKV and it sounds like no which is what I wanted to know. I guess it doesn't even matter because I could borrow 2014 too. I appreciate all the advice but I have done a lot of research and I know what works for my family so I guess to each his own.

Also purchasing 30-50 points additional gives me an additional 60-100 if we went every 2 years or even more if it is every 3 which is the perfect amount for us. I also liked the idea of newer points with a longer contract and the idea of a monorail resort. It doesn't really seem like I am ever going to have a problem getting more days at VWL at the time we usually go but getting into another resort at 7 months is trickier. If BLT was still available that would probably be my firsat choice.

Did you ask your guide about BLT? They may be more likely to have points there than at VWL as I suspect they get some back there more frequently that the loans are defaulted on.

I did not ask about BLT because I didn't realize initially how long the wait lists had become. Then when my guide made it clear I was not going to get VWL or BWV (initially my second choice) without a lengthy wait I had to stop and reevaluate things. The demand for resales and old points has changed dramatically since we bought in 3 years ago- we got VWL points direct no problem! Then the more I thought about it buying a newer resort really made sense to me since the cost of old points has risen and my family likes MK best. I think I would be very happy at either VGF or BLT so I may ask about that option too. Thanks for the idea!

The scary thing is that BLT is selling for more than VGF although I think I saw a post where someone had still gotten a discount based on the number of points so if you inquire ask about that. But if they did have points in your UY and you could get the 2012 it would be about the same as if you had to rent for your trip although you did mention you could borrow 2015 points.

Good luck with finding something that works for you! It is crazy these days compared to how it was even just a year or two ago.

Yes, I was shocked that BLT is $165 and more than VGF! That doesn't really make sense to me. I knew that it was sold out so I didn't think there would be any incentives and figured I would have to waitlist. All the options make my head start to spin. I am almost glad that we didn't instantly get the points at VWL because VGF and BLT seem like much better options for us right now and I can always add on in the future. My husband also thinks so and he doesn't care where we buy. I guess my with the cost increases at least it makes my purchase 3 years ago seem more valuable since we bought in at a much lower cost.

it's all about location and accessibility. At the end of the day the GF seems to appeal to the OOC market which is probably a smaller share than in-country.

We own BLT and it's is so worn from all the use but if we can't get into BCV or BWV than we're doing BLT. For us, it's all about avoiding the buses.
