My husband and I have wanted to purchase for years but having children has delayed us. We love Old Key West the best but as everybody knows it is sold out. We are going to hilton head Christmas week. If we purchase at Hilton Head will be have problems booking the 7 month window for old key west for peak times-xmas and easter? We realize we could purchase a resale but we don't have enough money to pay in full and we like the idea of the magic beg. program. Also, we don't like the wilderness resort being from New York we see that atmosphere all the time. Would appreciate any opinions.

Old Key West is the largest DVC resort, so you *might* get lucky at the 7month window, but I wouldn't count on it for the peak seasons/holidays you mentioned. As you may know, on this board, everyone advises possible purchasers to "buy where you plan to stay". The 11 month window is very important for special, peak times. Have you visited the Wilderness Lodge Villas? They really are gorgeous, and pictures don't do them justice. The units are more like Boardwalk in size, which means rooms are smaller than Old Key West, but the feel of the whole area is great. Of course, Hilton Head is a wonderful resort also, and the MB program there is great at the present. I just did an add-on there myself yesterday! Good luck with your decision.

Just becuase it is a resale doesn't mean you have to pay in full. The Timeshare Store, which is a sponsor of this board, offers financing. Also, I'm not aware of the current state of the MB program (haven't been on the boards much lately) but I do know that you can rent your points for around ten dollars, so this would be comparible to magical beginings. Also, many resales come with banked points. I'd give resales another chance, because their prices are lower and the most important advice about DVC is buy where you want to stay the most. Good luck in making your decision.

Gotta agree with mooses and Candace....if your main destination for DVC will be WDW, then you should buy a "home" there.

If you love OKW the best, that's where you should buy. There are currently 28 listings on The Timeshare Store site alone for OKW! $60 - $65 per point, which compares with VWL with Magical Beginnings. And lower maintenance cost for the annual dues.

As for financing, if you don't want to do it it through the Timeshare Store or other re-seller, you might consider a home equity loan. Interest rates are low....great time for such a move!

DVC is all about loving the places you stay. If you love OKW the best, you really should buy there. You don't want to be kicking yourself for 40 years wishing you had bought there so you could get the "home resort" 11 month reservation advantage.

Read this board.....the one consistent, constant and never changing piece of advice is to buy where you want to stay.

Good luck with your purchase process!

Hello DisneyAngel

I've purchased Hilton Head Several years ago and I never had a problem booking OKW.

There a times we were placed on the waiting list but it always came through.

Your plan is not a bad one but it may not be the best for you. If you want to go to HH part of the time and want to go during the summer, I'd buy there and take your chances at the 7 month window as long as you don't want holidays, spring break at WDW. With essentially any other scenario, I'd just buy OKW resale. It'll still save you money to go resale unless you're looking at the minimum points purchase of around 150.
