Our local news ran a short story this eveniing about airfare. It advised to not wait around to purchase airline tickets and there is an expected major increase in prices due to fuel prices. They said since people would be buying airfare before the price increase that it is even more urgent that those wanting popular vacation destinations not delay as their would then be a shortage of seats.

First, I was a little concerned. I've been putting off buying our tickets and thought I should hurry up and buy.

But, now I'm thinking haven't fuel prices been on this rollercoaster for a good while now. Our gasoline at the pump price did go up $.11 this weekend :sad2: but it is the same price as last October.

What do you think? Do you think this news story was blown out of proportion or is there truth to it?

Cnn reported yesterday that oil price plummented. Tomorrow it might skyrocket.

A friend of mine is leaving April 3 and she told me she booked her daughter yesterday for $139 each way and the airfare went down to $79 today. (there is a $50 fee to change).

Usually fares tend to be a little higher during busy travel times, around holidays etc. Alot depends on if the airline has a fuel hedge, if other airlines up the fares, many variables. I say buy asap IF you think it's a good price. But then again, airlines want the flights to be full. So if flights aren't full, here comes another sale. I wouldn't panic, but I work for an airline and we were told to expect things to stay pretty tough, considering how much fuel prices affect the bottom line. But if Delta goes bankrupt it could change EVERYTHING! So my advice, if it's a busy time purchase as much in advance as possible, but make sure it's a price that you're comfortable with. Maybe $15 to $30 more per ticket that an off season flight. And be flexible as much as you can on travel dates. Tuesday vs Monday flights. Or returning on Saturday instead of Sunday. That can make a big difference in the price you pay. Good Luck!
