Puppy Update: I'm adopting my chihuahua this weekend!

For those who remember, I started a thread recently about the responsiblities of caring for a puppy. I thank all who gave me tips, and thought I'd give you a quick update.

I decided to go thru an AKC certified breeder. The woman had an ad in the paper so I called to get information. She has two puppies left, a black/silver, and a black/tan, both male 8 weeks old. I received an e-mail of photos of the puppies and I really took to the black/silver puppy! This puppy gets along with cats and children which works well with us, since we have two cats, and plan to have children in the future.

So this Saturday we are going to see the puppy! If all goes well the puppy will come home with us that day. The breeder lives 2 hours away from us, but it'll be worth the trip.

Gotta go out shopping for all our puppy supplies!
Now if only I can decide on a name.....Tobey or Nemo.

ahh...congrats and good luck! Don't decide on a name yet though - wait until you meet the pup.

A chihuahua, eh? The Taco Bell dog? hehehe When I worked at Taco Bell many moons ago, I wanted to get a chihuahua and name him Pico. (pronounced 'Pee-ko'...it's what the "fiesta salsa" used to be called back then. heheheh)

Best of luck! I hope you aren't going solo to pick the pup up...see if someone will go with you. Our dog was scared of her mind when we picked her up and brought her home (2 hour drive as well.) All the cars on the highway scared her...she didn't like being alone in the little crate we brought with us...she insisted on sitting in DH's lap...that made her "his" dog right off the back...but she only stopped crying if he was holding her.

Yay....a new furbaby! Have fun shopping! Hope all goes well and thank-you for choosing a reputable breeder. I'm assuming all relevant health tests were done on the parents and the pups have been well socialized. Enjoy puppyhood...it goes soooo fast. My puppy is already 1 yr.....yikes! Don't forget to post pix

Stinkerbelle- My love for chihuahuas started with the Taco Bell dog, but I didn't really fall in love with this breed until I hung around my friend's chihuahua. But the puppy I'll be seeing on Saturday looks nothing like the Taco Bell dog. He is black and silver, and his eyes don't bug out as much as the Taco Bell dog.

My husband is coming along, he'll be driving so I'll be able to sooth our new pup if need be. Although he will have to stay in the crate because I'm not sure if he's started potty training yet. (He's 8 weeks old as of today.) Another question I'll ask the breeder when I meet her.

The breeder did mention how well this puppy socializes with stangers, other pets, and children. (Great for us since we have two cats!) Also just had a vet visit last week, and weighed in at 1.8 pound!

I'm pretty sure everything will work out. Got a list of questions to ask when we meet and if everything pans out, we'll be driving home with our newest family member!

You know, from A Bugs Life. I'm a huge Disney fan.
I've decided against Nemo. So now it's Flick or Tobey. We won't decide though until we bring him home.

Diznee25- enjoy your Chihuahua. My grandmother had one when I was growing up and she was the sweetest little dog. I really like this breed, also. My favorite part of Legally Blonde was Bruiser (love that movie). Good luck with house training. We are still working on our new puppy and I am so tired of getting up in the middle of the night (usually twice) to let her out to go potty.

Stormi65- Your puppy is so cute. My family had an American Eskimo and she was also a really sweet dog. We considered getting one a couple of months ago, but wound up with a Great Pyrenees instead.
