Hi to all.

Off and on I have needed to turn to the experts on this board for help :goodvibes

IT'S TIME AGAIN!!!! :dog: :rotfl: :dog:

Cody is 5 months old and as cute as ever. If I knew how to add his picture I would - there is question number one please!!

He has been great about housetraining and crate training. Could not ask for more :cool1: :cool1: Has been letting us know when it is time to go outside

When he is not in the crate we either keep him in a "playpen" (kitchen dining room area which is gated and big enough for him to run and play) or out and about the house with us. When he is out with us we keep an eye on him at all times.

In the last three days he has started to have bowel movements when he is out with us with no warning!! Only on carpeted areas NOT in his crate OR the "playpen" area. I will be playing with him and all of a sudden there he is doing is number 2 on my carpet:(:(

Any ideas? This was going so well. Have a call into the vet to talk to him about our cat's asthma attacks (cat and dog are not getting along - cat keeps stressing and her asthma is getting worse) and will talk to him about this as well. But in the meantime I need help!!

Thanks for all....I am such a puppy newbie.

As an update or edit........he will do his business outside. Just got back from a walk and he did both:):) So now what is he trying to tell me about the carpeting in my house....hmmmmmmmmmmmm

This puppy training is harder than it looks:):)

yep, puppy training is HARD.

I would leash him to you at all times. Also referred to as the umbilical method. Tie the end of his leash around your beltloop and he goes with you - you can stop him immediately and take him outside and save your carpet that way.

Bumping for the Monday morning crowd..........

Help??????????

Have had this problem sometimes with my doxie, if she is allowed in a "new to her" area of the house. I clean up the mess without a fuss and use Nature's Miracle to get rid of the smell. Later, when the Nature's Miracle has dried, I'll make it a point to play with her or lay in that area with her to make it clear to her that this is a place for playing and living, NOT a secluded bathroom spot.

Best wishes for nipping this problem in the bud!

Get thee a copy of Surviving Your Dog's Adolescence by Carole Lea Benjamin. Your dog is at that rebellious adolescent stage. It will save your sanity and your dog's life.
ETA: I should add that when all hope seemed lost I got this book. Whether I really would have given Petey away in a fit of frustration I really don't know but understanding this stage of your dog's life is critical. The vast majority of animals surrendered to shelters are between the ages of 4 mo and 2 years. Most of those for potty training probs. Not saying that you are even considering sending her away, just that your situation is entirely normal. Get the book, you'll be thanking me later.

My advice is to take him out before playing with him. Playing seems to just loosen things up. :teeth:

Our pug who is 4 has gone a couple of times in the house when we've been playing, and she's been housebroken for years.

Since we moved, our schedule is different and I was playing with her early afternoon. She usually goes out morning, after work, and before bed. Well, I didn't think too much about it, but we were throwing the ball up and down the stairs and she was chasing it. Well, as she comes back down the stairs, out comes the poop. :rotfl2:

Totally not her fault. Now we just make sure that if she hasn't been out in ahwile we take her out before playing in the house.

Well I would say that at first glance he has decided he wants to poo on the carpet. Got to catch him in the act and correct him.

I wouldn't give him free roam anymore. He has too much too early. Scale it back or have him leashed to you.
