:confused3 Has anyone every taken a taxi to Punta Sur? How much would the taxi fare be for a family of four? I'm also concerned that I might not get a taxi to take us back to the ship. Will the taxi wait. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We went to Punta Sur back in January with a DCL excursion so I can't tell you about taxi rides and the cost. It seems like it took about 45 minutes for us to arrive at Punta Sur from the port area which made me a little nervous. Punta Sur is really nice & serene looking. Be sure to wear something on your feet on the sandy part of the beach there are little burrs everywhere that do not feel good when they are stepped on. Have fun!!

Thanks, this is the excursion that we booked and I thought it might be better to do on our own in a taxi. We'll probably just continue with the excursion. Question....what food or drink is provided and should we bring some food of our own?

You can rent a jeep near the cruise terminal and drive to Punta Sur yourself. It really isn't far and it's a nice ride! You have to drive stick shift of course, but they do drive on the "right" side of the road. We went down to Punta Sur and it cost us $6.00 per person for the tour back in 2003. If you are smallish, you can climb to the top of the Lighthouse. Amazing views from up there! You can then continue on around the island and stop at Coconuts for some refreshments. Nominate a designated driver though because they make their drinks pretty strong there. It's a really nice bar that overlooks the ocean and the rock formations, flora & fauna are really beautiful. You can then just make a complete circle of the island and it won't take you more than 1 1/2 to 2 hours to go all the way around.

Google a map of Cozumel and you can see the main road that goes around southern section of the island and then cuts back across to San Miquel. It's a lot of fun!

As far as drinks go, I think after our tour was finished and we were on our way back to the ship they handed out soda and beer. As far as the snack goes, I can't remember ever getting offered a snack but they may have added that to the the excursion. I think back in January this tour was fairly new so it ran beyond the time we had planned. We had early dinner seating at 6pm. We were supposed to be back to the ship by 4:30 but did not make it until 5:45. We took very fast showers and showed up a little late (I think about 6:15 or so) to dinner which totally offended our servers. Once we explained why were late they were a little better about it!

You may get some reviews from cruisers who have done this tour more recently to get more up to date info. All in all a great tour but the snorkeling we did was not for little kids that are just beginning. My daughter was 7 and had snorkeled a couple of times but we had to pull her along on this tour to keep up. There was a cross current that made it hard too which could be hit or miss depending on the weather I guess. The lighthouse was nice and we did climb to the top, there is also a crocodile pond there and we weer able to check that out too. One last note, the vehicle in which you get from the ship to the park is an open air vehicle - it started to rain while we were on our way out to the park, luckily it did not last long but it was enough to get everything soaked including our towels. You may want to have everything in a waterproof bag just in case:thumbsup2

The Jeep rental sounds interesting.....is it expensive?????

Cozumel has most of the major car rental companies with small kiosks right near the big pier (not the downtown pier) although there may be a few locations downtown too. So, you could check with companies like Avis and Hertz to see what the cost was. I know that I paid an upcharge because I brought it back without refueling. I went to a Mexican gas station, but I really couldn't figure out how to pay at the pump, didn't have any pesos, and I was a little leery of using my credit card there. So, I think I paid about $60 for the jeep and an upcharge for the refuel. $60 may seem expensive, but there were four of us and we couldn't have done an excursion for that amount.
