Has anyone ever pumped at the baby stations? When we our on our trip in Dec. our DS will almost be a year old and I am trying to decide if I should wean him before our trip. BTW I only pump I do not breastfeed.

My daughter was in the icu for two weeks after she was born and because they fed her through IV and bottle, she never learned to latch on to nurse. Pumping was such a PAIN! but... I did it for about 10 months. I used the carnation baby care centers and the CM's were wonderful! They refrigerated my milk, pump, and held my "pumping stuff" for when I returned every 4 hours!
Good Luck!

I'm glad to hear that they will accomodate mom's who are doing this. I also pumped exculsively for 7 months and it was tough. Good for you for keeping it up for a whole year! :cheer2:

Hi Gals!
Just wanted to pat you on the back. I nursed older DS until he was 3 and younger DS for 15 months so far. I only had to pump when I was at work. From someone who was able to do it the easy way - I have to say good job to you ladies for pumping exclusively. Do the best that you can and have a great vacation! I'm also glad to hear about how well bfing/expressing moms are treated there!

I totally agree and am THRILLED to hear that WDW is very accomidating to pumping moms!!! :) I BF my oldest till he was 2, my second till she was 2.5 and my youngest is still going strong at 11 months and will be nursing thought the trip no mater what the couple says that are goin with us!!!
Good for all you mamas that pumped so long for your baby!!! That is just great!

Wow, that is great to hear that the Baby Stations were so accomodating!!! Much better than hauling a pump and cooler bags all through the parks (especially on hot days)!

As a side note, if you can wait past a year to wean, you can probably go straight to milk rather than making an intermediate transition to formula. The intermediate transition may be easy or hard, depending on your baby's preferences and tummy!

Thanks everyone. I am so glad that I won't have to put the pump in a locker it will be much more convenient to just leave it there. My DH won't be too happy to hear this. He thinks it is a pain and that I am going to wean DS before we leave - too bad. Thanks again!

A huge pat on the back to you!! I pumped at work for a year and while it was extremely worth it, it was a drain on me!

I wouldn't wean for the trip either. If they can accomdate you and it sounds like they will, go for it!! I would expect some strange looks if you travel by air and have to send the pump through the scanner though!

We did transition to whole milk at day care and breast milk at home at a year and had no problems. Heck the money we saved on formula probably would have paid for Disney trip by itself!!!

FWIW, my friends with older babies all told me that weaning just before a trip or anything else "new" like moving house or some other big change is a bad idea if you can avoid it. It will probably be a lot easier to comfort your son if he still has the familiar bm, kwim? That way if he is upset or confused or just not adjusting well to the travel or new places you still have bm to help calm him down, and it is relaxing and nice.

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say that I think you're awesome! :cheer2: Pumping is hard work, and your baby is incredibly blessed that you've done this for him!

I pumped too for about 6 months at work 2-3 times a day! I'm glad it's done, but well worth it!

From what remember the baby care center at MK has private nursing rooms. I assume you could pump there in privacy --- or at least just in front of other breast feeding mothers.

One more thing though...I thought the same thing - that I would need to do the whole breastfeeding thing when my DD went to WDW around age 1. But around 7 months we both weaned ourselves off of breastfeeding. She didn't like it anymore and got very fussy because I wasn't producing enough milk anymore. I couldn't produce enough milk either to sustain her at day care all day especially when she started solid foods. I just transitioned to formula. So it may be an non-issue for you if you need to transition. You might be lucky enough to just pump in your room. Also, which by the way I think the resort would give you a refridgerator.

That's awesome!! I'll be leaving my youngest daughter at home when I take my son in December. I'm hoping to still be nursing then, and really didn't want to do a pump and dump.

I did see someone pumping when I was there this year. I loved the baby stations with our daughter !!

I get lots of accolades at work for continuing nursing (DD#3 is nearly 9 months old and I am pumping 4x a day!!) but anyone who has pumped exclusively deserves a HUGE medal. Way to go mom :cheer2:

On one hand I say "good for your for nursing and pumping for 9 months" but on the other hand I think "how sad that it is a BIG deal that you've nursed for 9 months". What a shame that nursing for at least a year like the AAP recommends is such a big deal to people.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that the baby care centers can help out those moms who exclusively pump. I was *thisclose* to being an EP'er and I don't think I could have stuck it out.
