What do you guys think of this? I personally don't like the idea at all. I think it might be the worst choice they could pick for an addition into World Showcase. I mean, it's a US territory... they even voted to become part of America in 2012!

I actually really like the idea...Puerto Rico has a very rich culture and history that's unlike anything in the U.S. Most of their culture is completely uninfluenced by the U.S. as well. I'm all for adding more pavilions into Epcot.

I don't think my hometown will become a state any time soon. We are USA citizens indeed but I don't believe that this change will happen as soon as you said

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rican_status_referendum,_2012

On our last governor election the Island vote for this referendum in 2012 but nothing was concrete. I don't think they want to lose their identity yet.

And IMHO I don't see a big deal with having Puerto Rico in the World Showcase , but I guess the public will decide which country will be a better option.
So Tony have you try our "cheese flan " or Rice and black beans ? You should try them and let us know if you like them ! :thumbsup2

Our country is rich in culture and traditions and we have a big influence of Puerto Ricans living in Orlando and working for Disney for the last several years.
And now the WDW cruises are sailing from San Juan .( Some of them ) But overall, we need to keep our minds open to everything. Isn't that the purpose of the showcase? To try new things?

I really hope that guest visiting the Food and Wine Festival in Epcot will enjoy our food and recipes !

I don't know if the businessmen would be willing, but Puerto Rico could be the center piece of a pavilion about the Caribbean. It could reflect the entire area but center on Puerto Rico.

Even if it is only Puerto Rico, it could be very good. There is plenty of room and no one else interested. It would be a great experience. I have been to Puerto Rico once, it was great.

I too think that PR is too likely to be American state to be part of World Showcase. Love PR, mind you. Just ought to be included in the American pavilion.

Thanks for your vote of confidence as well ! :thumbsup2
And glad to hear that you visit my beautiful hometown.

Teacher..

It's not unprecedented ... if you consider the World Fairs before 1980 to be the model for Epcot.

At Expo '67 in Montreal, Quebec there were several pavilions representing Canadian provinces including the host province Quebec and next-door neighbor Ontario. Plus a couple of nearby US states.

I would be happy to see any US state or territory represented at Epcot, or any Canadian province or Mexican state for that matter - as long as it's a nice building with great rides, shows, dining and/or shopping.

Why not? People complain there isn't enough and then complain when something new gets added as well.

Ah, yes theming at World Showcase. The country of Arendelle and the country of Puerto Rico.

That aside, Puerto Rico is pretty nice. I kind of wish that it would take over the whole American pavilion area.

If they did add PR........where in WS would it go???

I haven't looked recently to count available spaces, but there are apparently six to eight "open" slots where other countries were originally planned to go into World Showcase but did not -- i.e., the expansion space is already there and waiting to be filled.

As for Puerto Rico filling a spot, I'm good with that. Yes, it's technically part of the U.S., but as said above, its culture is sufficiently different from the continental U.S. that I think it could be a great learning experience for guests...and if other actual countries are not willing to pony up the support to fill in some space at WS (which they've had 30 years to do...why wait any longer?), then that's all the more reason to allow another culture (even if part of the U.S.) to come on in and set up shop. I love seafood, jerk beans/rice and fried plantains, so I'd be all over the Puerto Rico/Caribbean-inspired dining options.

As said above, people complain when things leave Epcot and when things are added. In this case, nothing would be replaced...just a brand new pavilion. What could possibly be wrong with that? Bring it on.

I think it would be a great addition, just as long as they have mallorcas to eat and coqui frogs to listen to!! :beach:

Brazil would be a much better bet.

I agree!

If you are strictly focusing on the Carribean I wouldn't go for Puerto Rico - there are so many other Carribean nations with more diverse interesting cultures, foods and backgrounds. How about Cuba or Jamaica....

I would also be concerned about security in a Puerto Rico pavillon - not to be politically incorrect - but I don't worry about Brazillians getting out of control - but I would certainly be concerned of the the Puerto Rico pavillon - so no - no vote for Puerto Rico....sorry....

Wait, are you a troll? Brazil is recognized as one of the most criminalized countries in the world with a murder rate of around 27 per 100,000 persons.

And are you implying that by adding a Puerto Rico Pavilion that there would be an influx of Puerto Rican criminals to the Disney parks? Or that somehow Puerto Rican people are more rowdy than Brazilians and would flock to their own Pavilion to cause a ruckus in a watered down experience of their everyday life at home? I'm so confused.
