Looking at GoogleMaps it seems that driving to the Publix at Orange Lake Town Center that is about 3-4 miles outside of AKL is our best option to stock up on groceries for a week long stay? Can't see paying for a grocery delivery fee since we will have a car and be a few miles from the store. Although ordering ahead and having it delivered through Instacart seems nice to not have to spend the time shopping. What do others do if they have a car and need groceries at AKL?

Once we discovered the Publix at Orange Lake we only go there even if we are staying further away like SSR. We have tried Garden Grocer and ordering a few things through the DVC website, but really prefer this Publix. It is fairly easy to find, is in a nice area, very clean, and they have a good variety of foods, especially pre-made and ready to cook items. We usually rent a car for just one day to do our shopping. Haven't tried Instacart yet.

I think Orange lake is the best from AKV, Lakeside from the MK area and likely Water Tower from the EPCOT resorts. From SSR Regency is the closest Publix. Though the Wynn Dixie and Goodings are the closest from SSR, I'm not a fan of either. From BWV we normally go to the super WM on 535 by way of Victory way and Oceola though the Publix Water Tower is probably slightly closer.

We are at Kidani now and we went to the Publix you are mentioning. It is the closest one from this point. If you go out of AKL turn at 1st right onto Sherberth Rd. then right onto 192. Publix is around 3-5 miles on the right. You will pass under 429 and Public is not too far from there. It will be on the corner of 192 and 27. We went Sun after check in, grabbed groceries and got a sandwich from the deli.

If you went to the Publix near US-27, you went TOO FAR and drove past a Publix on the way there. There is a Publix just before you get to 429.

Just a note, pick a land mark as you exit Sherberth road as you turn on to 192, so you can find the turn on the way back. It looks very different as you return, lots of traffic, multiple lanes and turning lanes... A tip when leaving, as traffic is usually heavy and the left turn signal is short, go across into the target center, make a U turn and go bank out to 192. We got stuck for 2-3 lights waiting to make that left.

OK, so driving there seems like the way to go. All good tips about traffic and locations. The turn around in the Target lot sounds helpful! I just saw the other Publix on corner of 192 and 27 (Summer Bay). Looks like the one at 192 and 429 (Orange Lake) is right around the corner from AKL. Thanks to all!

That Publix is an excellet grocery store; however, if you have a Target Red Card, your best option is the Super Target, directly across the highway. That Publix is actually only about 2/3 mile from AKL as the crow flies but you would need to walk through woods and swamps to get to it. The driving distance via Sherbeth Rd to the Publix or Target is about 2 miles.

In getting to the store via the Sherbeth Rd route, you have two options. Take Sherbeth all the way to the Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (192) and turn right and go through numerous lights to shortly before 429 (Target is across the street on the right), or you can take a right off Sherberth about 60 yards before it gets to 192 on a street named Black Lake Rd. That has no stop lights along the way and you take it all the way to its end where it joins 192 and turn right and then it is just a short distance to Publix (or Target).

Definitely heed the advice above about making sure you check landmarks for the roads because you can easily miss your turn off of 192 coming back; that is particularly true at night because as we discovered there is no lighting beaming on the road name signs and you can barely see the road names as you drive back.

I will be sure to watch those landmarks! Appreciate that warning from everyone. And I think I'll go ahead and drive the 2-3 miles vs. the .66 mile hike through woods and swamps (although it could lead to some good adventures and stories!)

Do you know the address of this particular Walmart? I assume it is the closest WM to BWV.

Thanks

Walmart Supercenter Get directions
3250 Vineland Rd, Kissimmee, FL 34746
Ph. (407) 397-1125

It's literally right beside the exit off osceola parkway. Best way to get there from Disney anywhere but the Disney Springs area, by osceola parkway either off world drive or by way of Victory way. From OKW/SSR it's 536 to 535 then Right (south). I'd have to check but the one by Westgate might be as close for SSR/OKW as the one above.
