Big scare in Debsterville today. DS is at summer day camp. Once a week they have field trips. Today was the New England Aquarium. I LOVE the way his center handles field trips. All the children wear the same Tshirt, as do all the teachers and chaperones. So they are a noticeable group! They also put wrist bands on the kids, with the name of the Center, the phone number of the Center, and the cellphone number of whomever is in charge of the group for that day.

Well....today, my DS became a 'lost' child. Seems he and his buddy were looking at the Sea Turtle, and when the group moved on, they did not notice. Well, it took a minute or so, and they noticed they were alone. Well, being the smart, careful, 6 and 5 year olds that they are. They stayed exactly where they were. A group of 4 middle school girls found them. 2 of the girls stayed with the boys. 2 of the girls went to go find help. On the way to the main office of the Aquarium, they found the Director of the Center (recognized her shirt) told her what happened, and took her to DS and his pal.

Long story short, the boys were "lost" for about 5 minutes total, from what I am told, and Bless these girls for taking the time, being so grown up!!! I am going to see if the Director knows where they were from, because they do deserve a BIG thank you, and some recognition.

So peoples, talk talk talk to your kids, so they know what to do when they lose their grownups!

***sorry Pop Daddy, but this is super long, but for a very good cause*** :teeth:

Glad there was a happy ending, Debster! :) My daughter does weekly field trips with her summer day care and they do the same thing, they all wear matching school shirts. It's good to know that your son was well-versed in what to do, and thank goodness for the thoughtful middle school girls who helped out! :)

Glad they did so well and got help so fast.

Never fear on the length, this was nothing length wise - have you seen some of my stuff? I can make War & Peace look short, and I am just joking around.

Deb, your son and his friend were very smart to stay put. Who ever taught them that did good. And the middle school girls, well, it just goes to show that "all kids" are not heathens, illbehaved, etc. A great end to a possible panic situation.

And on another note, Zurg, you are outdoing yourself this week. Your creativity is amazing as always, guess there were no While ZW was in NC" projects to keep you ohterwise entertained.

Oh my goodness! How scary that must have been for them. Good for them for being smart enough to do the right thing.
Im glad everything turned out ok and thanks for the reminder. I will talk to the kids today.

I have also told my daughter that if she gets lost she should find a policeman/woman or a mommy and tell them what happened. Because you know once a mommy hears the story she'll move mountains to help :)

Also parents, make sure your children know their address (complete including town) and phone number as soon as possible. We had a policeman come to DD's daycare when she was quite young and they recommend teaching your children this important information as quickly as possible.

Very scary sounding Deb!! I am just glad that they stayed in their place and were found so quickly. Give Bubble Boy a hug for me :)

Very Scary - I am SO GLAD ALL TURNED OUT WELL! You should be proud of your son and his friend:D

I'm glad you had a good ending to tell. Those girls did a great job.:) That's a good example to put on the Random Acts of Kindness thread.:)

LOL! My ds loves to look at the turtles when he sees them too. He could watch them for hours.:)

When I was in Search and Rescue we would do classes for kids and the BIG THING we taught them was if if they got lost TO STAY IN ONE SPOT (actually to HUG A TREE).

That is great that your DS remembered what to do!!!!

Glad to hear a happy ending! You have a smart little boy. Those girls were smart too. Good to know folks are raising nice children.:D

I'm sorry they got lost, since I know they must have been scared, but that was such a sweet story. It sounds like all of the kids acted very grown up and did just the right things. They should all be proud of themselves.

Glad it worked out ok; I've been jumpy all day, today is my 6 year old daughter's first field trip to "the big city"; the Museum of Science in Boston. They all wear the same shirts too, and we had the talk about what to do if she gets separated, but even so, I won't be ok until she's back at home. I guess I have quite a bit more of this to look forward to.

He is such a smart lil' guy :D I am sooo glad it had a very happy ending and it is so sweet of you to track down those wonderful girls!

Glad everything worked out. The kids certainly knew what to do.

I love to see groups with the color coordinated shirts. This is something I do with my own daycare group when we go out. I found out the hard way. I was always prepared for one of my daycare kids to be lost -- just didn't expect it with DS8's friend. I could not remember what the boy was wearing -- after all he was 7 years old.....wasn't suppose to be the one I was going to loose. Scare me -- turned out he was never really lost, just waiting his turn in a line right behind us (where we didn't look, of course!). But went out and got matching t-shirts. Now we definately look like a group.
