Do you think it will be possible to get a reservation for October 8-18 when we finally close and get in the system around early June? We still have our cash reservation, but, I'm not sure I would be willing to spend the money on it after spending the money on the DVC purchase.

For that long of a trip their may be a room open in the largest resorts - are you willing to be flexible about room sizes? a 1 bedroom is most likely to be avaialable. Are you open to switching resorts 1-2 times? If you are willing to allow those things you are more likely to find something than otherwise.

you might have to waitlist or even do a split stay. this is the F&WF so good luck.:goodvibes

I'm doing waitlist now for BWV to add on to my 4 other rooms at BWV

Be prepared to book what is available and do some creative waitlisting. Read up as much as you can on waitlisting. It will prove effective. Also, once you make a reservation don't hesitate to call frequently to see if anything has opened up; don't rely just on the waitlist. For example, we are going 9 nights in November. We have AKV for 4 nights, and I was waitlisted at BCV the entire last 5 nights, but called every day and suddenly 4 of the 5 nights opened up....wouldn't have come through on the waitlist. I booked the 4, and now I'm waitlisted for 1 night. Much more likely I'll get 1 night than 5!

So grab what you can, and work your waitlists, and call MS daily if need be.

In what section should I go to for waitlisting information?

Start with the Planning page and go back through old posts. It's not rocket science, but at least make sure you understand how they work, what you can waitlist for and how to prepare for making the reservations when you call. In other words, how many rooms do you need; what can you get by with? How often do you want to switch resorts? MS is very helpful about giving you options, but you have to know what you want.

I called last week and I'm already on a waitlist for 7 days. Nothing was available the entire month of October consecutively. Most I could get was 3 days. Same for November - except the tail end.

Here's to pixie dust for all of us!

Not even at SSR?

I think that anything more than 3 or 4 nights is really hard to get in October after the six month mark. That's why people are advising that you might have to do a split stay. Many WLs are for 7 days in a row at one resort and they are very difficult to get. Good luck. But don't give up your cash reservation yet.

Can I ask what type of room?

That's what I'm wondering. I called last week and got 5 nights in a 1 bedroom at OKW with no trouble.

OP, it's been my experience that if you waitlist at the larger resorts (SSR & OKW), at that time of the year, something will become available.

There should still be openings at Saratoga Springs at that time. It is almost always the last to fill up.

It's a 1BR. Since I have little ones DH prefer we stay at BLT anyway due to naps, etc. But, I did have them check the others on two different days and they told be nothing was available for 7 days. Since we are flying, I don't want to book only a few days without a guarantee for the others. Plus the 3 days they had available were in the middle of the trip. I even had them check a studio at BLT and nothing was available all of October, mid-Sept, and most of November. There were a few days at the end of November which won't work for me unfortunately.

I'm new to the waitlist thing so I'm definitely open to any of your suggestions.

I greatly appreciate all the expertise!:)

I wanted a studio in BLT for 7 nights in early October. I called right at the 7-month window. Only 6 nights available. I booked VWL instead (which was available for all 7 nights at the time). I have been wait listing for all 7 nights in BLT and still wait listing. If I had taken the 6 nights at that time and wait listed only for the missing night, I would have already got it. Now, I don't think there is any chance I will get the 7 nights BLT. I call frequently, and the availability seems to get more and more scarce for early October.

So, to book in June, to maximize your chance, like many already stated, you need to be flexible. Early October is food & wine and also Columbus Day. Book the nights at any resort with rooms. Then wait list the rest of the nights. You can only have 2 wait lists max. But waiting for fewer nights (like 1 night) will give you the best chance. So there is no good way other than to book as many nights as you can when you first call (meaning likely at multiple different resorts), then wait list a couple of nights, and call back often as availability changes frequently.

Good luck!
