PTR & TR-The trip of many "Firsts," introducing our kids to Disneyland!

They will be staying at the PPH as well and we have requested adjoining rooms.

Hi, I'm so excited for you for your upcoming trip! I just read this, about the adjoining rooms, and wanted to let you know that for some reason DLR hotels seem to believe the word "adjoining" means "next to," not "connected." We go with our in-laws every year and want connecting rooms since they help with childcare and because the kids love to wake up Grammy and Pop Pop. So we were a bit surprised, after the folks at check-in assured us that our request for "adjoining" rooms had been honored, to find that there was no door connecting the rooms!

It took a bit of time to sort out--had to spend a lot of time talking to CMs before they would change the room--but what I learned from it is that you need to use the word "connected" or "connecting" rooms explicitly when you request the room and when you check in. If you use the word "adjoining," they may give you rooms next to each other that don't have a door between them. (One of the CMs finally started laughing when I asked why GCH thought it was okay to change the actual dictionary definition of the word "adjoining.") :-)

So, my advice, call back and make sure your request contains the word "connecting"--and then reiterate this upon check-in.

Have a great time! I can't wait to read all about your trip.:yay:

Hi :wave2: thank you SO much for this information! The whole point of adjoining rooms was so the door between the rooms could be open so the kids had more room to play and could be in either room easily. I will be asking for "connecting" rooms then. I really appreciate you sharing this information with me.

Most hotels actually qualify them this way. We also learned this the hard way at a hotel in Boston. Now, I always ask for connecting! Up until that trip I didn't know there was a difference, but the explained to me just what you did - adjoining means next to each other, connecting means interior door.

We had the most magical, amazing and fun trip. Disneyland is so incredible viewing it through your children's eyes. It was perfect, I will cherish this trip forever. I hope you enjoy reading about our Disneyland vacation.

Our toes are ready...

Suitcases packed...

Now it's off to bed. I lie awake, pondering how the next day will play out and what I may be forgetting. Add being overly excited and anxious to that and it was a waste of a night's sleep.

I wake up before my alarm :confused3 It was set for 2:30am. Both kids got right up and were excited to leave :cloud9:

We arrived at DH's parents' house at 3:45am, both kids were still wide awake. We get to the airport at 4:30am, we head straight to security (since I had checked us in the day before on the mobile app, so cool) which had a much longer line than I had expected. I was glad we decided to get to the airport early. As we approach the line, an airport employee shows us a line far left that is for families with kids. Score :thumbsup2 we just saved a bunch of time. Getting through security was hectic. DS had a massive tantrum because his beloved blankie had to be placed on the belt. All was good once we got it back, but it felt like it took a lot longer than it really was for that darn thing to come through. We find our gate and the kids got a thrill looking at all the planes...

They had never seen one on the ground and up close before. Once on the plane, it was "When are we going to go up?" for a good 20 minutes.

DD did great at take off, DS was scared and wanted to go home but eventually was he calmed down when he saw his new Lightening McQueen toy. They had fun playing with all their goodies in their backpacks. DS was the first to fall asleep about 45 minutes before landing and DD fell asleep about 30 minutes before landing. Needless to say, landing was a breeze :cool1:

We arrive safely to SNA about 8:48 :yay:, we had just missed the Disneyland Express :(. The next one didn't come until 10, that was a bummer. DS kept saying that every shuttle or bus that came by was our bus. I told him "Nope, look for the one that has Mickey on it." When the bus finally came it was all white with a little logo, no Mickey...disappointment :confused3 Our driver, however was awesome. He was so lively and fun, a great welcome to start off our trip.

The first Disney thing the kids notice is a Mickey head on top of a lamp post at the Disneyland Hotel stop, and they made sure to point out every singel one they saw until we got to our hotel (and there were a ton of them). :crazy2:

We arrived at Paradise Pier Hotel :cheer2:

I check in, verify the "connecting" room and bags were taken to Bell Hop to store until our room was ready. As we start to head out, we see Goofy and Mickey at Surf's Up. The kids were in awe, just smiled and waved. We go out of our hotel in search of DL. This was by far the longest walk to the park all week, we had no clue what we were doing. We went through the GCH and missed a few turns. Once we got into DTD, we took a left and walked all the way to the end until we realized this wasn't right, turned around and went the other way. We found it eventually :rolleyes2

Just walking into the gates was amazing :goodvibes I was in shock that we were actually in DL! We wandered around and realized that we needed to eat. Some how we ended up in Toon Town and could not go any farther without food. So the kids and I got food at Pluto's Dog House and DH goes to Daisy's Diner. None of us were thrilled with the food, it wasn't bad, just average. But it sure did the job :thumbsup2

DD found little birds and enjoyed feeding them bits of bread.

Feeling much better with food in our tummies, we were off to find Dumbo, as this was the ride DD chose to be her first ride. The wait was about 20 minutes. I love how DS' hair was standing up from the ride. He was very uneasy and did not like going up. After the ride, I asked if he liked it and he said yes.

While on Dumbo, DS saw Casey Junior Train and said we had to go on that next. We jump in line and it's about 15 minutes. DD loved it, DS loved it at first and then freaked out towards the end but said he still liked it.

It's a small world was next with a 10 minute wait. The kids both really enjoyed that one, but DD felt it was a little too long. A ride too long?! You're not my child ;)

The ride exit ends with a store, so of course DD HAS to buy something. She told us before we left home that she was going to buy a Sully when we got to DL and she stuck by her word. She picked out Sully and Pluto. DS got a Astro Blaster gun and a Buzz Lightyear light up spinning toy.

At this point we decided that we needed to exchange our PhotoPass+ voucher for the card and we needed to get autograph books before our Goofy's Kitchen dinner at 5:00pm. We walk to main street and find a photo shop. I get my card and we check for autograph books, but they only had a small selection. We decide to check World of Disney on our way back to PPH. We didn't make it out of the photo store before both kids were zonked out.

This was exactly what I had hoped for, rest before dinner. We needed to get our bags out of Bell Hop and into our room. So we leave DL, go to DTD and pick up a couple autograph books at World Of Disney. The walk back to the hotel was much shorter this time :lmao: We unpack while the kids sleep and rest a bit before it's time to head to Goofy's.

We find our way to the Disneyland Hotel and seek out Goofy's Kitchen. We got there a little too early, so we explored the gift shop nearby. More toys were purchased. This time a baby Lady with a blanket and a huge Buzz. After we pay, the CM asks if we want the Buzz out of his box and we say please. Another CM asks us for our names. We give her the names and spellings and were given an 8 x 10 black and white photo of Lightening McQueen and Mater saying "Welcome to Cars Land." We really thought that was special.

Time for Goofy's!

I don't have my PhotoPass CD yet, so this is a picture of the one we were given while at dinner. DS was terrified of Goofy, DD was a little nervous but did great!

After being seated it was time to scope out the food.

These are the biggest plums, I've ever seen.

Salmon, my favorite.

My favorite dessert at Goofy's

I loved these...

Our first character to visit was Minnie Mouse, she was incredible with DS who was very timid. She got him to do high 5's

She did too slow Joe with him and he loved it.

DD was in Heaven

Minnie liked her new Lady

Next up was Pluto

DD meeting her first princess

Chip came next, he liked Lady too

He liked DS' Sunglasses

Jasmine was next

Rafiki showed up, he didn't stay long and was the least interactive. DS was scared of him so maybe that was why.

Dale was scared of Buzz's laser

Since DL closed at 7:00pm, we venture to DCA. The kids decide to push their new toys in their strollers.

We decide to see what the wait for TSMM was. It said 30 minutes I believe. We parked the strollers and headed for the line. The CM standing out front stopped me and said "You guys just dropped this pass that allows you to bypass the line right?!" I was confused and he said it again, I said "Oh yeah, that was us." He gave us this pass and we bypassed the whole line and got right on. First pixie dust of the trip pixiedust: It was awesome! I loved that ride, DS hated all the turning.

It was almost time for WOC, we didn't have fastpasses but checked to see if there were any left when we got there. No luck, they were all gone. I received an email prior to our trip explaining what benefits and activities our hotel had. One of them said you could get WOC FP from the front desk. I asked and was told every way to get them, but through the hotel. I was a little bummed, and think they need to update their information before sending it out. We decided to just try to grab a spot without a FP. We found an area just to the left of the Golden Zephyr so we stand there and feel like it should be an okay view. Just before the show started, the CM's moved a rope and we were able to get an even better view. More pixie dust pixiedust:It was great, not perfect but it worked for us. We even got misted which DS hated. With two sleeping kids, we went back to the hotel and called it a night. We had a great first day and couldn't wait to see what day 2 had in store.

We had our alarm set for 6:30am. We get ready and head to White Water Snacks for breakfast.

The kids got Mickey Waffles, but weren't a fan.

I got the American BF which was alright. I ordered my eggs over medium and they were barely cooked in general. Luckily, I wasn't feeling that great anyways so I didn't need much to eat.

DH loved his Buttermilk Sandwich, it was huge!

After eating, we head to the security through DTD. We passed the GCH DCA entrance and it was packed already. I knew I wanted to use the wide right technique for RSR so the main gate was where I wanted to be for faster gate entry. We were the 3rd family in line at the DCA gate. We head in through the gates, and stay right until we hit the rope. We are behind one couple on the far right. As they move the ropes we stay to the right, a family cuts in front of us. We ditch our strollers near flo's and get right in the RSR line. We get a rider switch pass. DH and DD get right on RSR. :cool1:

DS takes a picture with Stanley

And Red (this is a photopass photo)

DH and DD get off, DH didn't like all the hills/bumps in the racing part, but thought the first part of the ride was awesome. DD enjoyed the ride until the racing part, she was scared of going that fast. I asked her if she would want to go again with me. She hesitantly agreed. We used the rider switch pass, this system is great! We only had a 5 minute wait and we were on the ride. We got to the starting line for the race part and the ride broke down. :( We sat for a good 25 minutes on the ride. They kept saying to stay on the ride and it would be moving shortly. Eventually, it did go and we were off on our race. As we came to the boarding/exit area, the CM told us if we wanted to ride again to just stay put. SCORE!!!! We got to go again and I was able to experience it all the way through without stopping. Loved, loved, loved that ride, I now know why it is so popular.
While DD and I were on RSR, DH took DS on Luigi's. Neither of them cared much for it.

DD and I on RSR.

This is where we were stuck.

We then hit Mater's with a 15 minute wait. DH and DD had a blast.

DS was a little uneasy, but said he liked. He kept searching for Mater because he heard him talking. lol. I thought it was short, but fun.

We took pictures at the petting zoo/farm next.

We see Lightening taking photos, so we jump in line. Waited about 5 minutes.

A picture on Route 66.

We find a waterfall and a photopass photographer and Stitch shows up;)

Disney Junioir Live on Stage was next on the agenda. We sat right up front, but next time may sit a little father back. This show was really cute and interactive. My kids were shy, but DD did warm up a bit. The entire family enjoyed this show. The kids favorite part was catching Gold Deblunes (sp?).

After the show we were in need of food, I knew I wanted to try those continuously raved about Lobster Nachos. So to the Cove Bar it was. On the way, DS fell asleep. We got into the Cove Bar with no wait, and there were only a few other diners in there. DH and I both order adult beverages, which were strong and good. DD and I share the Lobster Nachos and DH orders the Sliders.

The food was fantastic as was the atmosphere. The chips for the nachos were thick which was nice because they didn't get soggy. I will be needing those nachos on my next visit. YUM!

After lunch, we go to ride the carousel but we see Woody out so we get in line. Unfortunately, we just as we get to the front of the line, he leaves and Jessie takes his place.

Then to the carousel finally, DD was waiting for this all day. DD hated it, out of all the rides he hated the carousel the most. :confused3 DD wanted to go right back on again, but we wanted to see the Aladdin show.

On the way to see Aladdin, we see Sofia!!!! DD and Mommy were super excited!

We grab a few drinks and some chips across the street and make our way to Aladdin. We waited about 15 minutes for the next showing. Again, we all enjoyed this show and it was a very nice way to get out of the heat for a while.

It was hot and the kids were ready for a break so back to the hotel for a swim it was. I was unsure what to think of the water slide not being connected to the pool, but it is actually genius. My DD has taken swim lessons, but I would not trust her going down a slide that drops into a pool and she would also be frightened of it. This slide just stops with shallow water at the bottom. DD climbed to the top and planned to go with DH, but only one person was allowed at a time. Then she thought she had to lay down because that was what everyone else was doing. So she climbed back down the stairs instead of going. I asked her why she hadn't gone down, she explained and a lifeguard overheard. He explained that she was welcome to sit, and she didn't have to lay down. So up she went. She thought it was AWESOME!

I honestly could not tell you how many times she went on that slide.

The nice thing about these pools were they were salt water, which was nice and refreshing. There was also a shallow pool for little kids, that's where DS and I hung out most of the time. Swim diapers available to hotel guests as well. I wish I had known that. Trying to find swim diapers before we left was a challenge as stores had been getting rid of all the summer stuff. Noted for next time. I thought that was a nice touch.

We head back up to our room to meet up with DBF and her family. We got the kids changed and opened our connecting door, gave DBF a few instructions and then booked it to DL for our date night to hopefully get in a ride or two.

We jumped in line for the Matterhorn with a 30 minute wait around 6:30pm. The park closed at 7:00pm. We waited about 20 minutes and were inside the sheltered area, we still had at least another 10 minute wait but, the CM asked if there were any groups of two. I raised my hand immediately, thinking I was too far back and didn't have a chance she would pick us. She did!!! We got to bypass at least 10 minutes of waiting and jumped right on the ride. More Pixie Dust pixiedust: The ride was rough and my back hurt afterwards but it was worth it. I love that ride.

We rushed off towards Star Tours which had a 15 minute wait. Since we were a group of two we got to go in the shorter side of the line. While on the ride, I used the tips to attempt to be chosen as the rebel spy but no such luck. DH and I had fun. The park was closing when we got out so we went to DCA.

We got in line for Soarin Over California. It was a 40 minute wait, the longest wait we had all day. This was really the only ride we really wanted to ride so we waited.

After Soarin, we were in search of dinner. We wanted to try The House of Blues. The wait was 15-20 minutes which we really weren't wanting to do so they told us there was room at the bar. We head in and it was so packed and so loud, we turned around and left. We debated where to go and ended up at ESPN Zone. We were seated right away. The restaurant was quiet and not crowded. Perfect. We each ordered adult beverages again. DH got a lemonade with Sweet Tea Vodka (Angry Arnold). Oh my was it good. We had to buy some after we got home to make drinks. I ordered the Bleu Cheese Burger and DH got the Smokehouse Burger. Both were delicious, we were very happy with our dinner selection.

It was time to head back to the hotel to see the kids. Both had a bath and were sound asleep in there beds. Yes! DBH said the kids played at the arcade, watched a movie in the theater area, and swam while we were gone. She had some bad news to deliver to us though...before heading to the pool, DS would not leave the room without his new big Buzz Lightyear. DBF tried to get him to leave it, but he would not budge. So Buzz came with him to the pool but didn't make it back to the room. While they were all swimming Buzz had disappeared. They searched every where, but he was gone. The only thing to do was wait until morning and call lost and found to see if some how someone had turned him in. Luckily, DS hadn't realized he was missing.

DBF had decided after the long day of traveling, they would not be doing EMH with us and said she would meet up with us in DL when they arrived.

This ends a very busy day 2. Tomorrow is DL and attempting to get on Peter Pan.

We woke up at 6:00am, got ready and made our way to Tangaroa Terrace, but they didn't open until 7:00am. We didn't want to wait around for 15 minutes so we go to DTD and see if we can grab something to eat there. We find nothing, so we get Jamba Juice. Some smoothies and 2 waffles and the price tag was insane. We could have had a sit down meal.

We get to security at 7:20, DL gate by 7:35 and let in at 7:45 with the rope drop at 8:00. The CM at the rope told everyone he was sorry to report that DL was closing at 5:00 tonight and that Frontierland and Adventure land would close even earlier.

Picture from the rope, I was loving the Halloween Decorations that were up already.

We went straight to Peter Pan and waited 10 minutes. DD liked it but was actually a little nervous. DS whined throughout the ride, but said he liked it (notice a pattern?). DD wanted to ride Dumbo so we jump in line and only wait 5 minutes.

We hit Alice with a 5 minute wait, DD was not a fan of the queen and DS was very unsure.

Tea Cups were next with no wait, both kids LOVED them!

Pinocchio was a walk on. The kids weren't too crazy about this one.

On our way to PFF, we took a picture in front of the castle with the photopass photographers.

The wait for PFF was already 40-45 minutes just after park opening. While in line, DS started getting tired and wanted his beloved blankie, but of course we forgot it at the hotel so he had a major meltdown #1 in line.

DD was star struck with the princesses. First, was Cinderella.

Then Sleeping Beauty (2nd meeting with her). She was so great with DD, they spun around and did a courtesy.

After meeting the princesses, we wanted to check to see when the next showing of Tangled was. We met a Photopass Photographer on the way.

DS decided he really didn't like pictures taken on this trip for some reason.

They were starting to let people into the Tangled show, so we grabbed seats on the carpet up front. DH was hungry so he got a Bagel Garlic Cheese Twist and got the kids a Chocolate Twist. The kids liked DH's better. The whole family enjoyed the Tangled show, even DH said it was better than he thought it would be.
We waited after the show to meet Rapunzel and Flynn. It amazed me how many people didn't know that they come out after the show. The CM I spoke to before the show said that you cannot leave the theater after the show, if you do they will not let you back in. I had forgotten the autograph books so DH ran to get them after the show. He stayed outside and handed them to me. The CM there saw him handing the books to us and let him back in, which was very nice. Rapunzel and Flynn were great, they were asking DD where she was from and then said Max had been trying to run away to WA because he heard the apples were good there. They also told her that if Rapunzel ever got lost on an adventure, that DD could fill in because she had the long blonde hair and the dress.

At this time, we decided to venture to Frontierland due to it's early closing. DS fell asleep in line for the Jungle Cruise, which was a 20 minute wait. Carrying a sleeping child through that crazy long queue was a fun adventure I'd like not to repeat. DD loved the ride, afterwards all she talked about was the piranha fish for some reason.

POTC was next. This was one ride I was keeping my fingers crossed that wouldn't be down during our trip. It was closed on our last trip. I wanted to see what was added since the big refurb years ago and DH had never been on it before. I thought the new additions were great!, I really love that ride! DD was scared, and hated the drops. DS was freaked out the whole ride. Even DH wasn't a big fan, he claims it was because after one of the drops his side got soaked. I'll be curious to see who goes on it with me next trip or if it will be just me.

After posing in front of Club 33 for a quick photo, we ran into DBF and her family. They had great news for us, Big Buzz had been found and was waiting at the Bell Hop for us! YAY! I guess the CM's regularly look for items sitting around and bring them to the lost and found. We were so relieved.

Someday, I hope.

DBF and her family were hungry and went in search for lunch, we weren't quite ready yet. However, after wandering about for a bit, we decided to get lunch too. I wanted to try the famous fried chicken from the Plaza Inn. We all got the fried chicken meal.

The chicken was good, nothing too special. The potatoes and gravy was my favorite and none of us liked the green beans. There was a ton of food, I could have easily not ordered and just shared with the kids. We would consider going there again, but it would not be a must do for us.

After lunch, we jumped on Buzz which was a walk on. DS loved the Buzz ride, it was hard just getting him past the Buzz before the ride. The ride stalled while we were on it, so I was racking up the points.

We hit Autopia next with a 5 minute wait. I think DD liked getting a driver's license more than getting to drive the car. She asked if this license means she could drive when she got back home. I told her it was only good at Disneyland, bubble burster over here. LOL.

DS was too short to really do much, but he liked the ride.

Nemo was next with a 10 minute wait. Both kids thought it was pretty neat. I was worried about that ride because so many people talk about getting claustrophobic in the sub. I thought it was quite roomy and didn't have an issue.

On the way back to get the strollers, a CM stopped DD, addressed her as Princess (I loved this) and asked if she had seen the princesses yet. DD told her that we had just seen them this morning. The CM pulled out a white envelope, handed it to DD and asked her to open it. Her eyes lit up as she pulled an 8 x 10 black and white photo of the princesses and it was signed by them all too. The CM told DD that the princesses had asked her to give it to DD. It was such a magical moment, more pixiedust: for our trip. It was such a simple thing to do, but totally made DD's day. DD treasured that photo the whole day and still does.

DD fell asleep on the way to Toon Town, we saw Donald and got in a short line to meet him.

We left Toon Town since DD was asleep. We hopped on the train at the Toon Town Station and rode that all around the park because DS really wanted to ride the BIG choo choo train. The breeze while riding the train was fabulous.

We disembarked and went back into Toon Town since DD woke up. DD wanted to ride Gadget's Go Coaster. DH and DS went to play on Donald's Boat while DD and I head into a 20 minute wait. Or so we thought, we ended up getting right on.

DD was nervous, but said it was awesome! She thought it was funny how the frogs got us with water. She wanted to go again.

We checked to see if DH and DS were done at Donald's, but we didn't see them so we ran back in Gadget's line. This time it was about a 10 minute wait (still posted as 20). As we are boarding, we saw Sully (DBF's Son and DH) exiting the ride.

After the ride, we go in search of DH and DS. We went to Goofy's Playhouse to see if they were there, nope. We started into Donald's Boat and here comes DH and DS walking out. They hadn't made it to Goofy's Playhouse so they checked that out while DD and I checked out Donald's Boat.

We met back up and DD decides she wants to go on Gadget's AGAIN, DH went with her. While DS and I waited and watched, DBF found me to let us know they were heading back to the hotel because it was so hot, but that we should meet for dinner at PCH Grill later.

After Gadget's for the 3rd time, we were planning to head to Tom Sawyer's Island but realized there wasn't enough time, if we wanted to get a spot for Soundsational. We jumped on the Tea Cups again at a 5 minute wait.

Both kids then requested to ride Alice again, it was posted as a 20 minute wait but was only 10.

We grabbed a spot and some Mickey Ice Cream Bars and thoroughly enjoyed the parade.

Disneyland was closing, so we head back to the hotel for dinner at PCH Grill. DBF had decided to just grab some kid meals and feed her kids in their room. DBF and her DH wanted to go to dinner together on their date night. On the way, we stopped at Bell Hop to retrieve our Buzz. As we were seated, DS had a major meltdown (you'd think he'd have been happy getting his Buzz back), DH had to leave the restaurant with him. We were supposed to be at our room by 6:00 but because of the meltdown, we didn't even get to order until then. DD ordered the build your own pizza. This was very cool and DD enjoyed helping make her food. I really like the Mickey Mouse shaped tray.

DS got the Macaroni and Cheese (this was the kids meal, it's huge).

DD's Pizza all cooked.

DH ordered the Macaroni & Cheese with Shrimp. We both thought it was delicious.

I ordered the fish, it was a large portion and very tasty.

This was the magical star cocktail with glowing ice cube which was yummy.

We had a great dining experience here and will be returning next trip.

We head up to the room at 6:30 (only a half hour later than planned). The kids were so excited to see each other and were running all over. We decided to take all the kids swimming. The slide closed at 7, we hurried so the Sully and DD could go down it. After awhile the kids started getting cold, so we headed to the room for a nice warm bath and get in jammies. The kids run around playing with all the new toys and eventually crash around 10. DBF and her DH went on California Screamin and went to dinner at House of Blues but said it wasn't very good. And so ends day 3.

We woke up at 6:00, got ready and decided to do Tangaroa Terrace. EMH wasn't as crucial for us today since we already did RSR earlier and no one besides me wanted to ride again.
I ordered the Banana Caramel French Toast. It was filling and VERY sweet. I have a major sweet tooth and after awhile it was too sweet for me.

The rest of the gang gets the American Breakfasts and enjoys it.

We got right in to DCA at just after EMH started. So what do we do with almost our whole EMH? Shop. Yes, shop. I felt like I was wasting such valuable time, but it was nice to be the only ones in the store. ;) The kids picked out several items, I got my first souvenir, a sweatshirt. We had the store hold our items for us, until we were ready to head back to the hotel. Boy was DS upset, he wanted his Zurg and Lightening McQueen now! He was extremely mad at DH and I.

After we leave the store, DD decides she wants to ride Ariel. We come up to a rope and we were so confused. Are we not able to go there? I start thinking maybe it was for the regular park opening. I grab out my hotel key and security lets us go past. Yay! We get right on The Little Mermaid. We get off and DD wants to go again. We jump right back on. She wanted to go a 3rd time, but DS was not so willing. He disliked the ride more the second time than the first.

Mickey's Fun Wheel was next, DD had been wanting to go on it. As we get closer, DS says he doesn't want to go. DH and DS wait while DD and I
get in line. DS changes his mind and jumps in line with me. DH has a thing with heights and just watched. We got right on again. I was loving how quiet the park was this morning. Both kids loved it :thumbsup2

DD saw the Silly Symphony Swings while we were on Mickey's Fun Wheel and wanted to do that. DS wasn't tall enough so DH waited with him. We got right on and were sent to a tandem swing. We both loved it, laughed and waved to DH and DS. We were given the option to stay put if we wanted to ride again, so we did. After this second ride, I started feeling nauseous. DD would have gone again but my stomach couldn't handle another ride.

We jumped on Jumpin Jellyfish again no wait and rode it twice. DS took pictures of DD and I on it with his disposable camera, it was really cute. "Wheeee" pretty much sums up that ride for DD.

DS needed to get on some rides so we're off to Bug's Land. We rode Hemlich's Chew Chew Train, it was a 5 minute wait. Both kids liked it and DS even threw a fit not wanting to get off.

While on the ride we saw Flick come out for autographs and pictures. We hurried over to get in the short line that had formed. While waiting in line, DD had her sharpie ready to go and accidentally drew on her dress. She was very embarrassed and didn't think Flick would like her with marker on her dress so she refused to take a picture.

DH grabbed a wipe and tried getting the ink mark to come out, then he remembered that sunscreen helps remove sharpie so he sprayed some sunscreen on there too. It was barely noticeable after that so DD said she could meet Flick now. We jumped back in line.

We found the cool popsicle stick bench.

Tuck and Roll was closest so we hop on that, another 5 minute wait. The kids laughed and laughed on that ride.

DD wanted to ride the "ladybug" ride, I still wasn't feeling better so DH took the kids. Of course they liked it.

It's Tough to be a Bug was showing in 5 minutes, so we grabbed some bug eyes and a seat.

The kids hated the show with a passion, oops. DS hated the water being sprayed on him more than anything.

We still needed to see Woody, so we stroll over that way and he's there! Our stroll turned into a run. We wanted to get in line quickly and hopefully not miss him again. We wait in line for 10 minutes before they announce Woody is leaving in 5 minutes. The wait was longer than that, shoot we miss him again. I asked the CM what time Buzz and Woody would be there, Buzz was scheduled to be there in 30 minutes. DS fell asleep, so we decided to wait. DD and DH ride the carousel. We see Buzz coming out so we jump in line. DS wouldn't fully wake up despite our best efforts.

After Buzz, we waited for Woody to return. Just before Woody came out, Goofy's Instant Concert Just Add Water had started. So while we were in line, we had some nice entertainment. DS was more awake this time, he liked meeting Woody. He gave Woody a high five and showed Woody that he was wearing a Woody shirt. Woody did a little gallop and threw his hands in the air. He pointed at DS' shirt and then at himself. Needless to say, it made DS' day. He talked about Woody liking his shirt the rest of the day.

Our tummies were starting to complain, we knew where we wanted to eat...Flo's V8. I had heard rave reviews of the BBQ pork and I knew you could order the kids meals in a Lightening McQueen lunch box. So it was a must.
On the way we see Mater, so we jumped in line to get a picture.

The kids loved that their food came in a Lightening McQueen lunch box.

The kids chose Macaroni and Cheese.

The BBQ Pork was very good, DH and I agreed that it took a couple bites to get used to the Coca Cola sauce but we enjoyed it. Next time, I would get the sauce on the side, my pork was swamped in it. The milkshakes are awesome. I am pretty sure this will be a must do on future trips.

Turtle Talk with Crush was another "must do" that I had read rave reviews on. So we went to the Animation Building. I wasn't that impressed and found it a little boring. Unless the kids request this next time, we will probably skip it.

After that, we headed to the restrooms over by Monster's Inc and saw Meeko!

We were ready for a swim so we grabbed our purchases from earlier on our way out. We stopped at Build a Bear because we had promised DD she could make an animal. DD chose a multicolored bear, she named Rainbow.

DS chose a Monkey with a Buzz outfit, he named it Buzz.

We got back to the hotel and found this. Housekeeping went above and beyond. DD thought it was so cool.

We go swimming and cool off.

Then it was time to head back to DCA for the Pixar Parade which started at 5:15. We grab a spot large enough for our family and DBF's family in case they decided to come. DD was sound asleep and slept through the whole parade, I think all the swimming wiped her out. DBF showed up just before the parade started. We all watched the parade which was very cute. Minus the parts where they squirt you with water, DS hated getting sprayed.

After the parade it was time for our dinner reservations at the Rainforest Cafe. We get seated upstairs and it's really loud. The kids like all the animals and decor. DH and I ordered the Panama Punch, mmmmmmm! I ordered the Jungle Steak and Shrimp. DH gets the Mojo Bones. DD gets Macaroni and Cheese. DS gets pizza. I was bad and didn't get pictures of the food this time, sorry. My food was fantastic, DH didn't care for his too much because he said the ribs were tough.

After dinner, we all head to DL for the special LTM Unleash the Villains. There was quite a line to get into DL. Once in, we see a line for the dance party formed in front of the flowers. Knowing the Unleash event doesn't start until later, we get in the dance party line. We waited a half hour and a CM says this line is just for dancing, no characters there is a separate line for that. Seriously?! Could they have announced it a little earlier? Everything was so disorganized. We get out of line and decided to go on a few rides so DD and Sully can ride together. It was insanely crowded. We finally make it to the Haunted Mansion which had just opened that day with it's Halloween overlay and the wait is 2 hours. No way I am waiting 2 hours with 2 young kids. It was so packed, we felt like we could lose our kids in this crowd. We decided it wasn't worth this nightmare. We grab a seat near the hub and wait for the fireworks. DBF and her family left the park, went swimming and watched the fireworks from there. Both kids fell asleep before the fireworks went off. The showed was delayed for technical difficulties but ended up working. I loved the firework show and really wish DD could have seen Tinkerbell fly.

The fireworks ended and we head towards the exit, CM's were telling us to which ways to go. We got to go behind the scenes to exit! I don't know how often that happens, but it was awesome! I was taking my time it was really neat walking behind the shops on the way out of the park. I wish I had thought to grab my camera out. DH and I got separated and met at security (a previously determined spot) to head back to the hotel for the night.

Our last park day is tomorrow and I am already sad.

Ugh...I was almost done with this day and I accidentally erased it all. Grr.

Okay, take two.

We get up at 6:45 and are down to security by 7:20. We wait in the DL lines.
I was loving these Halloween Character Pumpkins!

We wait to the right at the rope. Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy was our first stop. We got a Rider Switch Pass (RSP), DD and I jumped in line first. We waited about 15-20 minutes. DD was very scared, I on the other LOVED it! I think I still prefer the original but man I could ride SM all day without getting tired of it. DH asked DD if she wanted to go again with him, and surprisingly she agreed. So it must not have been too bad. With the RSP they got to use the wheel chair accessible line and got right on the ride. We only used RSP twice, but it was sure a big time saver. I am so thankful to be able to take advantage of it.

I adore this picture of DD, the look on her face is priceless. We are in the front.

DH and DD in the middle.

We stroll down Main Street to see if Mickey Mouse was out, since we had yet to see him. He was there with a large line and no Photopass Photographer. We decided to check back later.
We did the walk through Sleeping Beauty's Castle. I had never experienced it, it was nice to do once. DD was scared, worried about the dark mostly I think. I was worried she wouldn't finish the walk through, thankfully she did.

I bet you can't guess what ride we hit again in Fantasyland.....

We hadn't seen Tinkerbell yet so we wandered over there. The line wasn't long but it sure took a long time. DD hadn't been nervous with any characters, but she was really worried the fairies wouldn't like her :confused3

Tink was really good with her and got her to warm up.

It was 9:25 now and we had 9:30 reservations for Minnie's BF at the Plaza so we booked it over there. Oh my was it packed!!! We got seated right away outside in a corner. I grabbed the kids food and got them all settled. While I was gone getting my food Minnie came by, luckily DH took a picture.

Then Dale.

Winnie the Pooh! The kids were real excited to see him.

Fairy Godmother

She tried to do knuckels/fist bump with DS, he wasn't having it.

Captain Hook was next, he was the best character interaction for the meal. He looked at DH's jersey and gave him a thumbs up, we all smiled and then he turned his thumb down. He did a secret handshake with DH and tried to do it with DS, but DS was not a willing participant. I said DD will. Captain Hook grabbed her hand and kissed it instead. While signing autographs, he kept slamming his hook on the table. DS thought it was really funny and still talks about it.

Tigger was good too, he bounced for the kids at their request.

Chip

Eeyore, DD liked the way he signed his name.

White Rabbit

A HUG?!!!! I never expected to see that this trip with DS but to be honest the White Rabbit kind of snuck the hug. It's okay, I have a picture so it counts.

During our meal a guy sitting at the next table pulled out two stickers of Mickey Mouse in a firefighter outfit. He gave the stickers to the kids and said he was a Firefighter here at the Disneyland Resort. The kids thought it was awesome, some neat unexpected pixie dust. They wore their stickers right away and when they were done, I stuck them into their autograph books.

Our Photopass picture from Minnie's.

I guess now would be a good time to explain the shirts. DH and his parents are HUGE Washington Husky fans, they were season ticket holders for years. I grew up watching the games with my Dad who was a big Husky fan too. So naturally both kids are as well. We watch every game, but since we were at DL we were going to miss the game. So we decided to bring our team spirit to DL. It's funny, we didn't tell DH's parents we were wearing our jerseys at DL, but the night before the game my FIL told us "Remember to wear your colors tomorrow." Little did he know ;)
We got a bunch of "Go Dawgs" and thumbs up from other guests which was fun. For the people who didn't get it, we just said we wore the same number to keep track of each other.

Continued in next post.

Next up was the HM, I couldn't wait to see the NBC version. On the way we ran into Princess Tiana. DD was really excited to meet her.

Okay, now it was time to do HM. The wait was listed at 30 minutes. Much more doable than the 2 hours the previous night. It was starting to really warm up quickly, we enjoyed the shady areas in this queue. Once in the elevator with the lights off, the room was quiet and DS cries very loud. The whole room went "Awwwwwww." It was pathetic and cute at the same time. We all got to ride in one buggy together, it was a little cramped but fun to experience it all together. I loved loved loved the layover on this ride. It was so bright and colorful, I think that helped make it less scary. DS was scared anyway. DD really liked it, she wanted to go again. It was really getting hot and I didn't feel like torturing DS again. So we moved on.

We promised DD a trip across the water to Pirate's Lair (Tom Sawyer Is), but ran out of time a few days earlier so we jumped right on the raft. DD was nervous about going in the first cave, but after that she was ready to lead us on an adventure. She took us all over the island, we all had so much fun.

We stopped for a restroom break, DD was not happy. She wanted to continue her adventure.

That's better.

She was very happy to find treasure!

At this point we needed to take a break from the sun. This was the hottest day of our trip so far. DD was angry, she didn't want to leave. She has vowed not to take us on any more adventures. LOL silly girl.
We got right back on the raft, but the other side was full of people wanting to head to the island. We were thankful to have had great timing.

We had yet to experience the Winnie the Pooh ride, since we were in the area we got in line with a 5 minute wait. The air condition was Heavenly, I wanted to stay on for a few rides but didn't. The kids really enjoyed the ride.

We grabbed a drinks at a nearby stand and then made our way to the Tiki Room. I knew I wanted a famous Dole Whip Float. The regular line was insane, but the inside line was not very long at all, so I got in line. Just after I got in line the 2nd CM went on break so it was one CM managing both lines and she favored the regular line. It took forever to get the float, so much so that my family went into the Tiki Room and I was left still trying to get our floats. They closed the door to the Tiki Room, I started wondering if I was even going to make it in there. I FINALLY get the floats and see a CM, I ask if I can go in with my family. She replied "We don't usually allow late arrivals, but I'll let you in this once." Phew! Just as I got in the door, I saw my family standing up, they were coming to find me. We all sat back down and watched the show. I missed the best part, the tiki song. Sadness.
We thoroughly enjoyed our floats, they didn't disappoint one bit. Incredible! It will has been added to the must do list for future trips. Even the kids liked them.

Off to find another cool indoor ride, IASW. It was a 15 minute wait, but more pixie dust...we got bumped up in line. The CM's were asking for a group of 4 and no one in the big line ahead of us was a group of four. Score!
On the ride, DD kept arguing with me that they took out Nemo, Lilo and Jessie. I told her no, we just aren't that far into the ride. She was insistent that they were removed. As we approached Nemo and Lilo, she no longer said anything.

DS fell asleep on the ride.

DH carried him off the ride but some how DS' brand new Husky hat fell into the water...EEK!!!! Thankfully we were able to retrieve it, but it was now soaked. I'm glad DS was asleep because he would have freaked if he knew his hat was wet.

We caught the next showing of Mickey and the Magical Map, 1:00 I believe. We sat right in front, off to right. That show was really fun, we all enjoyed it. I really liked the princess part where 3 princesses sing together. I was bummed that they didn't have a Lilo and Stitch character for the Lilo and Stitch portion. All the other parts had a character from the movie to go with the songs, I just found it a little odd I guess.

It was now back to Toon Town, we were in search of Mickey. Thankfully he was there! But as our luck has been for character lines, we got to the front and a CM explains "Mickey is going to go eat some cheese." Really?! Ugh, we were actually expecting it to happen. I even joked with DH "Watch we will get to the front and he will leave." Yep! Luckily, it was a very short break. I told DD and DS to go see him. DS actually ran up to Mickey Mouse without me and was totally comfortable. I was so thrilled, DH was in shock. The most important character and DS did awesome!

We were hungry, but had dinner reservations at 5:00 so we didn't want to eat a full meal. We grabbed a couple kids power packs and a couple pretzel bites at Troubadour Tavern. The kids power packs were really neat, everything kids liked and healthy options.

Then it was off to Frontierland to see the Big Thunder Ranch Petting Zoo. I don't remember ever seeing this area before. The kids really liked the goats and they even had festive bandannas on.

This particular goat was very entertaining. He loves his hooves massaged.

He liked DH.

I really loved the washing station and the decor.

We found a jack o lantern, um I mean Donald. He was worried about DS' gun.

DS got him.

At this time, our dinner reservation was just 15 minutes away, we weren't quite ready to eat. I went over to BTR BBQ and requested to switch my reservations to 6:00pm. I was happy they honored my request.

I then got in line for this.

At least we were going to get to see one villain other than Captain Hook this trip. While waiting a skeleton appears, DH took DD to see him.
I love this picture so much.

Then it was our turn to see what Villain we created....The Queen appeared.

She was SO good. She gave DH a hard time, it was really funny. DD kept asking why the Queen didn't like Daddy.

After visiting the Queen, we saw a line up for Pluto so the kids got in line. Wouldn't you know it right as we get to the front of the line, he has to go be part of a parade. This was starting to get old. Luckily, Photopass Photographer gave us the heads up and told us where to go so we could be ready for the parade. Pluto danced with DD and held her hand until it was over. She enjoyed it.

We had a great time in this area and wished we could have spent more time here.

Off to dinner we go and DS falls asleep. The wait for BTR BBQ was insane. I was beginning to question why I even had bothered with reservations. We still had to stand in a very long line to check in and get a pager, then sit and wait for over 20 minutes for the pager to go off. We waited at least about 40 minutes. It was a little frustrating. We were in dire need of a drink, our waiter took our drink order and it seemed to be taking way too long. Our food actually shows up before our drinks. After awhile our waiter shows up and the couple we were seated with had to ask for our drinks, he had completely forgotten. He was really great other than that minor issue and I wouldn't have even cared that much at all normally, but we were so thirsty. We really enjoyed all the food minus the corn it was a little mushy. We filled our bellies with as much as we could and left Frontierland.

We got our picture taken.

Then ended up at Astro Orbiter so I took the kids on that. They both wanted to go again, but I wasn't a fan of how that ride sits/loads. It was really hard getting two kids in there by myself and then me having to climb behind them, all while sitting at a very awkward angle.

After that, we did some final shopping and then took a picture in front of the Mickey Mouse pumpkin.

To finish our last night in DL, we watched Fantasmic! Both kids slept through it.

DH ran into one more store to grab a shirt while I watched the fireworks. Then it was time to head out and say goodbye to DL. I didn't want to leave, but teary eyed I forced my self to walk out the gates. DH and I were already talking that night about wanting to come back as soon as we can. We got back to the hotel, packed our bags and went to sleep.

Our alarm went off at 7:00am, none of us wanted to face the day today. We drag ourselves out of bed, get ready, do a final look over to make sure we hadn't forgotten anything and head down to check out.

We check out around 7:45 and go see when the next DL Express will be here. They had just left. We now had an hour to kill. We went back inside and got breakfast at the Surfside Lounge. They didn't have a very big selection, but we it was enough to satisfy everyone.

After eating, we walked outside to wait and wait. The kids killed time by playing hide and seek.

The DL Express finally got there around 8:45. This time our driver has zero personality, I am glad he wasn't the one who picked us up to take us to DL.

We got to the airport and only had to check one duffle bag. I happy about that. We got to the security line and waited a good half hour. As we waited I had a mini panic attack, I turn to DH and ask if he remembers getting or seeing B-L-A-N-K-I-E. He doesn't, and both our stomachs start to turn. We have to hope it's in one of the bags.

We get all our stuff on the conveyor, boy that's a chore. 4 rolling suitcases, 3 back packs, 1 smaller bag, 2 strollers, our shoes, phones and anything else we had. It was seriously a work out.

Then there was a small hiccup. At breakfast the kids got a small bottle of chocolate milk. I figured DS might want the rest of his later and put it in his backpack. Dumb Dumb Dumb. It was over the 3.4 oz rule so they had to pull it out and test it. I told them to just toss it, but they weren't worried about it. It passed the test and we could take it back with us. It just took much longer than normal, I felt real bad for the people behind us in line. Oops.

We find our gate and wait. The kids met a little girl who had a bunch of crayons and paper so that helped kill the rest of the time for them. Meanwhile DS and I are unzipping all the bags in a frantic search for Blankie. We don't find it. Crap! We have to hope it's in the duffle bag that we checked.

We got on the plane and a very easy flight.

Unfortunately, the kids were awake for this landing and it was not good. DS is getting tired and asks for Blankie...oh no! I tell him I'm not sure where it is and that it might be in the suitcase. He starts crying and screaming. Poor passengers, I'm so sorry. I tried everything I could think of to calm him down, but nothing has the power like that dang blankie. He cries for a good 30 minutes, not quietly either.
Then DD starts complaining that her ear is hurting really bad. I tell her to keep chewing her gum. It doesn't help.
Needless to say landing was very stressful and not fun.

We get our duffle bag and wait for my FIL to come pick us up. As soon as we are back to his house we get out the duffle bag and search for Blankie. It's not there. The most important thing we needed to remember was the one thing we forgot.

The last time we remember DS with it was at DL during Fantasmic. Did he drop it some where on the way out? Did he sleep with it in the bed and leave it in there? Serious panic mode sets in. We check online, can we buy another one? Yes, for $56. DH calls PPH with hope that by some miracle they have it. They do!!!!!!!!!! It was found in the laundry chute and was taken to lost and found. The CM on the phone told us she would ship it out the next day. I felt like crying, I was so happy we had found it and that they were willing to ship it back to us. Now the chore was breaking the news to DS and then not having Blankie for a few days until we get it.

I told him we accidentally forgot Blankie in California, but Mickey Mouse found it and was going to send it back to him in the mail. Using Mickey was hopefully going to make the pain a little less. He still cried and you could just see his heart breaking which breaks my heart. He had several rough nights and would wake up asking me to help him find it. I would have to explain that Mickey was sending it back. I think after a few days, he thought he wasn't getting it back. It took 4 very long days, but we got it! They even included a cute note with it and shipped it to us at no charge. That was above and beyond my expectations, I was so thankful for all the help from PPH.

DS with his Blankie, returned to him by Mickey Mouse. He told everyone Mickey found his Blankie for him and mailed it to him.

Here is all the loot we had to bring back.

My favorite souvenir from our trip.

Overall thoughts on our trip...
-Had a good experience booking our entire vacation through the Walt Disney Travel Company but I think we will try a different travel agency next time.

-While carrying everything onto the plane was a bit of a hassle, I wold do that again.

-DL Express was not quite what I expected and waiting an hour isn't pleasant after a 2 1/2 hour flight. Not having to haul car seats made it worth it though.

-John Wayne Airport is great, small and not very busy. We will fly into this airport again.

-PPH provided us with a great stay and out did themselves. EMH was worth it alone. We will stay here again when we come back.

-September was a great time to go, minus the refurbs and shorter hours. The lines were short and the weather was still gorgeous. I liked seeing the Halloween decor as well. We will most likely come back in September again, but Christmas time is still on my to do list.

-5 days was a good amount of time for us, but I would have liked just one more day. There were things we didn't get to do.

-I wish we had done a later flight home. So the kids would sleep and we'd have one more day in the parks.

-I would do gift cards for the kids' birthdays again, that was so convenient.

-I enjoyed having the character meals paid for in advanced.

-Photopass is definitely worth it and I would buy it again. But I would like to find more magic shots.

-I would get more snacks, we really didn't have many snacks on this trip and there were many things I wanted to try.

-Goofy's is a must, we will do that again. The variety of food was great, it wasn't busy and the character interaction was incredible.

-Minnie's is not a must and we will not to that next time. It was crowded, food was just okay, and character interaction was rushed.

-Strollers are a lifesaver, we will bring them again.

-The places we would eat again are The Cove Bar, Tangoroa Terrace, ESPN, PCH Grill, Flo's V8, Rainforest Cafe, and Big Thunder Ranch BBQ.

-The Rainforest Cafe was expensive, but one of the best meals we had. I signed up for their rewards card before leaving home. It was a $25 fee, but you get a $25 credit the first time you use it. We also got 20% off of our toy purchases after dinner.

-We mailed postcards to family from DL, but forgot to send them until Saturday. Some didn't show up until over a week later. We need to mail them the first or second day next time.

-I wish I had taken more videos of the kids.

-More pool time would be nice and I would have liked to take advantage of the poolside bar and the hot tub.

-Going with friends was nice, I really enjoyed having one night out. I wish the kids could have rode a few rides together and had their pictures taken. I did like doing our own thing and not feeling like we had to stay together.

-I would love for Grandparents to tag along with us on a future trip.

-I liked just bringing cash. No need to keep track of debit cards or transactions. We always knew how much we had.

-I would focus on more rides and less shows next time since we saw most of the shows on this trip.

-Let the kids do more leading and choosing which rides and when.

Seeing my kids' first glimpse of that magical castle for the first time was an amazing event stamped in my mind forever. Watching them meet their favorite characters for the first time was pure magic. Experiencing my favorite rides as a child, now with my kids was more incredible than I imagined. Disneyland became more magical to me this trip because I was able to share it with my kids. We had a perfect first family trip to DL. Hopefully many more trips are in the future. We enjoyed great weather, short lines and lots of magical memories. The kids cannot stop talking about all the fun they had. DS asks to ride a plane and the choo choo train almost everyday. DD wants to go back for the rides, characters and most importantly to shop. I am already pricing everything out for another trip. Ideally, I would like to go back before DS turns 3 to save a little but I don't think that's a possibility. I am hopeful that we will have a Disney trip in 2015 at the latest. A Christmas trip to Disney World would be a dream! I have a ton of research ahead of me for that though, but hey I've got time.

Well this officially ends my very first TR, I hope you all enjoyed touring DL & DCA with us.
