PTR-Cheating on Mickey w/Harry!...OMG! Only a month to go!

So today we're leaving on a road trip to Vegas!

I can't believe it, we are packed and ready to go all before noon! This has never happened before! All I have to do is shut down the computer and get this cat off my lap!

So I may not be around much this week, what with all our plans and no free internet at the hotel. They want you in the casino gambling not on the DIS in your room. :rotfl2: Here's the plan:

Take off in the next 15 minutes. We have already found two places featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives off the I-15 one to eat on the way up and one on the way back! :lmao: Tonight we stop in Jean (about 1/2 an hour from Vegas just over the stateline), and get our fix of low minimum Blackjack hands with plenty of free drinks. The Goldstrike Hotel & Casino has a Coffee Shop, Buffet and Fancy restaurant so we'll see what we feel like when we get there.

Tomorrow morning we head for Las Vegas. We're staying at Sam's Town, cheap but effective. We'll have dinner in the hotel that night at Willy and Jose's Mexican Restaurant.

Tuesday night it's Andre's at the Monte Carlo. Wednesday night is the Hofbrau Haus, followed by a visit to downtown for the Fremont Street Experience. Thursday night we'll be eating at Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse.

Other than dinner plans, we're just going to hang out, gamble, check out the new casinos and have a good time! Plenty of food porn coming your way! Until then TTFN!

Ahh, be safe today!!!! I think the weather will be on your side!!

Can't wait to hear about the diners you visit from Diners, Drive Ins and Dives! Love that show!!!

O.M.G.!!

I can't believe that I missed the post of the FOOD! I've died and gone to heaven with those shots.

Have fun in Vegas...what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas...unless you decide to share on the Boards. ;)

Hope you're having a wonderful trip to Las Vegas!!! Be safe, enjoy and share lots of food porn with us when you return home! And hope you win big enough to buy even more DVC points!! ;)

Thanks everyone! We are in Jean, spent last night playing single deck blackjack. We're basically even, maybe a few bucks ahead. Great $10 prime rib last night! We're going tohit the breakfast buffet and check out & head into town. Food porn to come when I hook up the computer!

So here’s a pictorial summary of our Vegas trip first day (long boring driving moments and casino action not included). :lmao: Around 3:30PM we decided to stop for second lunch. We are fans of the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Drives (aka Triple-D) and whenever we travel we try to hit any of the restaurants that are featured on the show if they are anywhere nearby. We could think of two places in Texas we’ve been and another (also on the route to Vegas), so Sunday’s stop makes the fourth place we’ve been to from Triple-D.

Our stop was in the hot spot of Yermo, CA at Peggy Sue’s 50’s Diner.

Almost 30 years ago, Peggy Sue and her husband moved here and took over the Diner. It was perfect place to display their large collection of memorabilia and they have been serving Peggy’s mother’s recipes for burgers, meatloaf, fried chicken and other favorites. There is a soda fountain and they’ve also added a kitchy gift shop full of souvenirs featuring Elvis, Betty Boop, and all sorts of other blasts from the past. They play music from the 50’s and 60’s and the walls are filled with autographed pictures of the mouseketeers, Wolfman Jack, a VERY young Dick Clark, and dozens of other celebs. Here’s me sitting in front of the larger than life Elvis Statue.

After debating all the choices of comfort food, we decided on a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich which came with Fries and our choice of the normal options, soup, salad, cole slaw, tomatoes, etc. We went the Broccoli & Cheese Soup of the Day. It was really good, more broccoli flavor than cheese, but since it was only in the 40’s and windy, soup was a yummy option. Our food and double chocolate milkshakes showed up in less than 5 minutes! They even split the milkshakes for us, and as you can see they are GENEROUS portions.

Everything was REALLY good, I couldn’t finish my half of the sandwich, but I DID finish my chocolate shake! It wasn’t a wussy chocolate shake where they take Vanilla Ice Cream and add chocolate sauce. No siree! This was chocolate ice cream, probably with chocolate sauce added! We were full and on our way in less than an hour and that’s with browsing through the gift shop.

About an hour and a half later we ended up at the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino where we planned on playing some cheap minimum Blackjack and staying overnight. It was dark when we arrived but this is the hotel.

Our room was nice sized, although there was no bathtub, just a shower. :sad2:

BTW both Fran and I are addicted to our SmartPhones that we got in December, she can't stop playing Tetris and I keep posting on the DIS.

Since we ate at 3:30 we weren’t very hungry (checked in at 6:30 and didn’t have much settling in since we were only there for one night) so we decided to play Blackjack and get free drinks! We did that until about 9:00 and decided to go to the coffee shop for the $10 Prime Rib. We also had a “buy one get one free” coupon from the slot club so dinner was about 15 bucks.

Fran got Bacon and Eggs for Dinner!

We went back to the tables for a couple hours and it was pretty late when we finally went to bed. Surprisingly enough we woke at 7AM and were ready for breakfast

After that we went and played yet some more Blackjack. See this was SINGLE DECK blackjack, you almost never find that and at $5 per hand, it was quite an experience! However once we lost the small amount of money that we were ahead from the previous night, we decided it was time to head into the city, and it was only 9:30AM! What a start to our day!

Wow great food porn!

On Triple D, what was the course that they featured on the show for the 50's diner?? Was it an item in particular or was it everything they had to offer? That shake looks AMAZING!! That could be a food picture on the menu for how professional it looks, with it dripping on the sides! :thumbsup2

Can't believe you guys got up sooo early!!!! :lmao:

Okay I am in for the ride on your TR. I have so many to keep up with. I just ate and now my stomach is growling again. Dont run anyone over with your scooter. I have ate at a few TripleD. I guess we will stop in june when we go. Looking forward to more.

If Fran got the B&E and you got the prime rib...who got the pancakes???

Loving the food porn....popcorn::

How are the prices there? It does look good.:)

Because we stayed, they gave us two calendars that had "buy one get one free" coupons at the coffee shop. Breakfast was about $11 w/tax & tip and we both got coffee. Dinner was about $15 since I got a glass of wine. Fran had a prime rib sandwich for breakfast today and we still have about two more meals out of it!

I don't think we saw the episode where he went there, or we don't remember. We found it through Google. Our version had a place where you set your location, when we searched on Triple D someone had pinned all the locations he had been to, at least in So Cal. They were all displayed on the Google map.

I will tell you, be patient, I have to get to yesterday before today! It's worth the wait, but my food coma is really kicking in!

Ahh, a food coma! Love it! :goodvibes

Waiting here patiently as we are in the middle of an ice storm...schools are closed but DH and I decided not to go in because we can't even walk outside our house. First time I have ever taken off due to weather...not bad for 12 years of teaching in NYC I guess.

I'll be waiting to hear more about your trip! popcorn::
