Our EPIC Vacation – This time we’re bringing friends!

Hi, My name is Lynn and I am new at this! :scared:Best I let you know that now so that when things go a bit pear shaped you will be understanding and hopefully a little sympathetic!:flower3:

I am 38 years old and work part-time in the finance industry. I enjoy my job but am pleased to have the best of both worlds in that I get to pick my kids up from school and run them around to their various after school activities yet I still contribute to the family income and most importantly the holiday fund (or in American speak – the vacation fund!)

We live a long long way away from Walt Disney World but don’t worry – we haven’t let that stop us. :rotfl2:As a child I was fortunate to be introduced to WDW and since then have made numerous trips. I am not going to reminisce on those as we would be here all day. Instead we will fast forward to when I met my DH (Dave) :coffee:– we made a few more trips and were introduced to the benefits (in our eyes) of staying on-site. :cool1:Admittedly – back then we used to stay at the values as we were hardcore – we were in the parks at opening and didn’t get back to our room until after park closing. We are older now (lol!) :rotfl2:and we have 3 kids ::MickeyMo:darth::tink:(you’ll meet them soon….). We now appreciate the finer things in life (you know the things I mean – sit down restaurants, lazy afternoons by the pool, a gentle stroll around World showcase…..) Holidays have evolved over the years. We have our own touring style and it fits our family. Our only regret is that we can’t afford to do it every year but hey – we need to eat right!

So, we first introduced our children to WDW in 2004 when our youngest was 2, our middle child was 3 and our eldest was 5. We stayed at the All Stars and had the most amazing family vacation (see – I’m getting the hang of this now). We couldn’t wait to go back so we saved hard and booked again to go in 2006. We decided to book a moderate for this trip so we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. This was our new favourite resort and we stayed there on our next two trips. By the time our youngest turned 7 she had crossed the Atlantic 5 times to see Mickey (Aren’t we lovely parents!) :cheer2:

Summer 2011 was our last trip – we had booked POR again but I did a lot of overtime and we got a bonus from work so we decided to upgrade and we were fortunate enough to stay at the Beach Club. (Free TS dining!) WOW! We were in heaven – this place was beautiful and we had the most amazing time. (We had pixie dust too – they upgraded us on arrival to a water view – it was simply stunning – the view when we woke up each morning was incredible). pixiedust: So that was that – Vacations would never be the same again. We knew that when we returned the only place we wanted to stay was Disney’s Beach Club. As my eldest (who is now 13) would say –It was EPIC! So we are now planning our next EPIC VACATION!

Hope you have heard enough to stay tuned….

One further thing to mention before I do the formal introductions is that I have been a ‘lurker’ for many years – I read these boards daily but I have hardly ever posted. Am sorry about that but life can get pretty hectic in our household. Once you get to know us a bit more you will understand…. I promise that I will try and post more and get involved. It was my husbands idea that I do one of these so if I don’t get any followers I will just blame him:rotfl2: – would love to hear from you……

Coming next….. some pictures so that you know who we are. (I always like to put a face to a name – hopefully you will too).

So, as promised here are some photo's of us:

These are our 3 children. This picture was taken a couple of summers ago but it is one of my favourites.

Our eldest is Ben - he is now 13 (where does the time go?). Our middle child is Sam - he is now 11. Our youngest is Bethany. She turned 10 in August. We had them pretty close together and whilst it was really hard work when they were small they now get on really well and (most of the time) are good friends.

The story of how it all came about…..

So – if you have read the introduction (don’t worry if you haven’t) you will know that we kind of like the place and are sad that we don’t manage to visit every year. :sad2:We skipped 2012 as we moved house so our summer was pretty busy (think emptying loft that contained 9 years worth of junk, packing far too many boxes and putting furniture into storage, moving into temporary accommodation with enough clothes for 3 weeks, finding our temporary accommodation was going to be for an 3 additional weeks, then finally moving into new house and starting school 1 week later).:headache: We needed a vacation – unfortunately we were going to have to wait a whole year for it…. But you know it will be worth waiting for……

Once we had signed conditions on the new house and had accepted that our 3 night camping trip with good friends was our 2012 vacation we started thinking about where we could go next year. If you ask the kids they always say Disney. So we didn’t ask them…. We thought this one up all by ourselves…..

We mentioned it to our friends as they have never been. :scared1:(I know – I can’t believe it either). They were interested. We got excited. They have 2 boys. Our kids (although different ages) get on well. We have taken short camping trips with them and enjoy their company. We think they enjoy ours! We get together at weekends and share pizza over a bottle of wine. Perhaps we could talk them into it….. :goodvibesWe got out the photos and the holiday brochures and showed them the hotel choices. We were pretty good and explained the differences between them (weren’t at all biased).;) We looked into costings and compared dates. We even found out that we could get the DDP free again if we were to book by a certain date. (And a $200 gift card!):goodvibes

They were tempted…it didn’t take them long to cave in (I mean decide that they too would like to have an EPIC VACATION). That was that.

August 2013 – Disney’s Beach Club. Party of 5 + 4.

It was Storm Along Bay that sold it to them, along with the fact that we would be within walking distance of EPCOT and a boat ride away from the Studios Park, and we could eat on-site at Cape May, ooh and there was Beaches and Cream….it wasn’t that hard a decision really!:woohoo:

So there you have it – A PTR in the making. Only 319 days to go…. Hope you can stick with us……popcorn::

Up next…. Our friends who are accompanying us……
