Pteranodon Flyers Question

So we're dropping in to IOA for a day Sunday (I know, the crowds, it's going to be nuts, but we're down in Orlando at KSC to see Endeavour on the launch pad Saturday) so we thought, let's do a quick stop in.

While I expect we'll spend a lot of time at Seuss Landing (and WWOHP depending on crowd levels) I have a dinosaur mad almost 3-year-old who misses the height limit on this ride by about an inch.

I totally get that these are for safety reasons, but since this is a ride that can be done with a parent, I wondered if anyone had any experience on how strict they are if the child is a) very close and b) accompanied.

I'd like to know before we get there so I can prepare myself mentally for his reaction. Because of course we have a very tall 6-year-old who will be ale to ride most things.

They are pretty strict about the measurement. You can try and enter, the worst thing you will be turned away.

Thanks so much. I think if that is the case, it will be better for all of us to not even make like it's an option for him. Maybe I'll have the spouse ask quietly when we're looking at something else.

Not sure if you knew this, but the ride is located inside a rather large play area. I think it would be pretty easy for one of you to sneak off with the older child for the ride, while the other parent entertains the little one with slides and such.

One warning though -- you can see the ride from the play area, and a 3-year-will probably know there are kids whizzing by overhead, and want to join. Might even see the 6-year-old...

And yes, they are as strict about heights here as everywhere else.

Ha! The six year old is just enough of a sadist to call out to his little brother too as he whizzed overhead.

It's not the sort of seating that you're thinking of.

The person you see is my son. He's sitting in his own seat. The feet behind him are my husband's. He is sitting in his own seat.

You can see hubby in his seat behind DS in his seat. You're in one vehicle unit, but you're not next to each other or really in touching distance.


The employees at the Flyers have to have THE hardest job...because there's a minimum AND maximum for kids, and because adults cannot go on unless they have a child of appropriate height riding with them, those TMs are explaining ALL day long. They also have a cool measuring stick.

When my younger DS was around 3, that playground was his favorite playground of all. He was so happy just to stay there and play for hours. They have a very cool water feature. Also, be aware that the pteradon flyers usually has a long line. It is such a slow loader, and there are only a few flyers going at one time. We have always gone there first thing in the morning to get a ride when the line wasn't awful.

I'm so glad I asked - thanks so much all for the answers. I see what you mean about the seating, you're right, I was picturing something quite different.

Good to hear the play area is great. We're going to have a good, line-free time by skipping 80% of the rides.

I'm glad the pictures helped. I will tell you I wasn't expecting that sort of seating either, and by the time I looked up and saw them, hubby and son were well into the line. I was a little fainty looking up at them to take the pictures. (you should have seen me on WDW's Space Mountain...deathgrip on DS's shoulder as I forgot all about physics and was worried he'd go flying out BUT my hand on his shoulder could keep him in the seat LOL).


Remember, Universal does "child swap" *inside* the lines, well, not at Pteranodon unless you had two tall-enough kids and just one parent who could ride with them, so you don't have to skip everything...just do the child swap so the adults get to ride stuff while the little one is kept amused and you all get to be together almost the whole time!
