PSA: Please, don’t stop in the middle of a walkway in the parks.

This really should be common sense but it’s abundantly clear that isn’t the case.

When you/your family need to gather your thoughts, get your bearings, etc please do so on the side of the walkway. Do not stop smack in the middle of the walkway to chat about what’s next. My frustrations aside, it does pose legitimate safety issues in large crowds. I’m not talking life or death issues. But safety concerns, nonetheless.

So, please, for the sake of mine and others’ sanity and potential safety, don’t stop in the middle of a pathway; just take a few steps to pull over to the side.

I very much agree with you. It is something that gets on my nerves every time I'm at the parks. But I don't think people are going to change.

I realize the majority of people posting on these boards likely aren’t the people this thread is directed toward.

However, even if I can save one person, I’ve done my job. Maybe a daughter seeing this will think to tell her mom. Or a buddy to his guy friend. We gotta get the word out. This epidemic needs to be resolved. Lol

Meh...it's annoying for sure, and it's happened to us, but I don't see it as a big deal or a huge safety issue. If we're going to stop and chat for a while, we find a spot off to the side. But I'd be lying if I said we have never stopped momentarily in what some would call a "walkway". When massive amounts of people start gathering along each side of the walkway, it just makes that walkway more narrow and harder to navigate. For example, the area around Small World/PP is narrow to begin with. So even stepping to the side, you're still in the way.

Like I said, not life or death safety concerns. But if you’re (not you, “you”) the one stopping abruptly and get rammed by a stroller then don’t complain.

Look, I’m not losing sleep over this kind of thing. But it is annoying and if people would step out of their bubble (no pun intended) to realize they’re not the only ones in the park then it would be appreciated by many who have to endure those momentary lapses in judgement.

I coined a term for this: "pedefreeze" origin from the Greek pedestrian freeze. Def: People (pedestrians) walking among large groups of people who suddenly stop with no warning. Would they do this in an automobile on the freeway? No they wouldn't or they wouldn't be at Disney World today. While the consequences aren't nearly as dire as my motorist analogy, it's still a big speed bump for the thousands of people behind and around you.

This is how I view instant stops now

I agree. I'm guessing these are the people that just don't have the ability to comprehend that there is anyone else in the world besides themselves...until they want something.

Just buy one of those build your own lightsabers and hold out directly in front of you. Chances are those people will learn not to just stop randomly in the walkway anymore (ok I'm just kidding, kinda)

I agree and in addition may i add for guests not to stop immediately when they get to the top or bottom of an escalator (think The Land). happened to me. going down the escalator the guests in front of me stop at he very end to look which way to go. i had no choice but to bump into them. they had the audacity to give me a look.

I agree. I'm guessing these are the people that just don't have the ability to comprehend that there is anyone else in the world besides themselves...until they want something.

I don't necessarily think that is true all the time. For most people, Disney world is a place of awe and new sights and sounds. Sometimes you have well planned things, but see something absolutely wonderful to stop and stare at for a while. I think this is a part of Disney's magic and this will never stop because of it.
that being said, there are always people who have no consideration of others, but most are just enjoying a magical, beautiful place that they have dreamed about. I know I have stopped in awe before, and will again. Sometimes it is not possible to step to the side at all. I just go around these people if they stop in front of me and don't waste my time on it. It's Disney and it's all good.

Agreed! This goes for all public places - like the grocery store, shopping mall, etc. So many people are not aware of their surroundings. They are either too self-centered or too aloof to realize that there might actually be people behind them, and they could be in the way!

It's funny, when people do it I get pissed. Then I step back and think, I've done it, just like I'm sure everyone here has. As long as the person realizes what they did, and move or say sorry, or something to that nature I don't mind at all. It's when they do it, know they got in your way, and just don't care at all that I get mad.

Sometimes we have to put ourselves in others shoes. Thats like one time on the bus a dad had his huge double stroller folded up, and his huge backpack on. Well, he's trying to do things and keeps hitting my mom in the face with the backpack (he's standing, she's sitting). After the 4th time, I finally said something to him, and it wasn't in a nice tone (not like I yelled at him, but it was definitely in an annoyed tone I guess you'd say). Looking back, I wish I wouldn't have, could've probably just let him know what he was doing. He really didn't look like he was having any fun trying to carry all that crap. But at the same time if one person has so much stuff they take up the space of 3/4 people on the bus, maybe they should rent a car and drive, or try to take a little less stuff into the parks.

Gotta be honest at Disney this does not bother me and I really never even notice because the walkways are so large.... BUT I work in NYC where the walkways are not and people stop all the time to text, talk, gather or just a family of 4 or 5 walking side by side and taking up the entire sidewalk lets not forget the cool people who feel it right to walk down the middle so people going both way have to move and the more important people than any one else that have to walk the opposite way on the side where everyone heading the other direction is walking because the other side is to slow and when you have to stop for a do not cross sign-rare here-it is like the civil war with 2 walls if people heading towards each other and last but not least the lovely people who stop on the first step of the subway station to text or talk..... I say the people who stop at Disney they are a pleasure for me. Someone please stop the people in NY so I can too be annoyed by these people in Disney you speak of.

I think it's always been a problem and always will be. Just more evident now with greater crowds in the parks and less personal space everywhere you go.

I'd like to add...
When walking down a path, please do not walk three, four, or more people abreast. It prevents other people from the opposite direction to continue down the same path. Please move over and allow others to pass.
