SIL bought her young daughters some play make-up at their commissary. I think she said it says "Dream Girls" or something like that on the lipsticks.

Well, the daughters put it on their eyelids and lips and cheeks (mostly on the 6yo, barely any on the 4yo), played outside for a few minutes, then SIL called them in for bathtime. The makeup came off really easily, but with it went ALL of 6yo dn's eyebrows and upper eyelashes!!!!!

SIL is contacting the company who makes the make-up. It was lipstick, so didn't really belong on eyelids anyway, but it IS "toy make-up." For little girls.

Just a warning, in case anyone's dd gets this stuff for Christmas!

OMG, how horrible!

I do know that even halloween makeup has warnings on it to not use red by your eyes or blue near your mouth. Why I don't know.

I have gotten my girls the Disney lip balms from Avon and Target with no ill results and I have allowed my daughters (with my help) to wear some of my makeup that was more natural for play time.

Those poor girls, thank goodness it didn't scald their eyes. I would definitely be reporting this!

Oh my gosh, I hope they get this resolved. How scary. Definitely take photos as proof.

That is terrible! Tell her to take a picture, too. Poor girl.

Wow, not something you'd expect from a toy makeup kit, wonder what's in it! If it can take your eyebrows off, I wouldn't want it on lips either!

A couple of things...
The product needs to be reported to the Consumer Products Safety Commission.
Your SIL must contact the manager of the commissary. At the very least, the local commissary should pull the item from their shelves.
If the packaging hasn't been thrown away, she needs to save it. Any consumer agencies she contacts will want any possible date/manufacturing codes from the package.

agnes!

I hope she did. I will remind her. She said it was rough the first few times at church, school, and around the base. People thought she was keeping chemotherapy a secret. The eyelashes are coming back quickly, but eyebrows are soooooo slow!

I went to send her the link for CPSC, but it says its not for cosmetics. Play make-up is a toy, right, not cosmetics? ACK. I sent her the link anyway. It's not REAL cosmetics, lol.

As someone whose daughter naired her eyebrows I can promise they do grow back. And it won't be as quickly as the lashes- but it wasn't very long either.

How horrible! Tell her to contact the Consumer affairs department too. They might want to recall that product asap!

Those poor girls. I lost all my eyebrows and lashes some years back, and it was horrible. Thankfully the lashes came back. A good portion of my eyebrows have not.

What a terrible reaction! As far as the red and blue, my dd6 has severe red dye allergies. She can actually start having anaphylactic symptoms if she ingests any food with red dye. At school a few months ago they put a temporary rub on tattoo on her cheek. She had an immediate contact reaction. Those tattoos are made with red food coloring, which has red dye. A lot of makeup has the dyes as well.
