PS - do you need a credit card to book?

Hi-

The last time I went to Disney was in 2001 and I made a bunch of PS ressies and was not asked for a credit card. I have been reading on the boards and have seen posts commenting about giving your credit card to make the bookings.

I completely understand if this is a new policy - they probably have a bunch of no shows...but, do they actually charge your card at the time of booking, or is it just to hold the PS and they charge you when you are there to eat?

Also, is the policy different for say a regular PS, a character PS or a show (like Hoop De Doo)?

I know these are silly questions, but I just want to find out how much activity my credit card is going to get?

Thanks for your help!!

They dont ask for any credit card info on most restaurants, as of right now... PSB and Cindys Table are the only two that do require a deposit, and I *think* maybe the Fantasmic dinner packages, though I am not completely sure on that.

All the other restaurant PS are the same... no deposit/card needed.

I have read on this board that the ones that need a cc, like Cindy's, will let you mail a check. I have never done it myself, but others here have.

They also ask for a credit card to book hoop-de-doo but as far as I know they haven't charged my card the balance, just a deposit each.

Although we haven't experienced this, I understand during the busiest times, specifically Christmas Day, Easter Day, Mothers Day, they do require a card for a PS anywhere, trying to prevent people from double or triple booking and not showing up. We haven't been there for any of these, but that is what I've heard from more than one place.

For HDD and the Luau you have a reservation, rather than a PS, so you're charged for your tickets (or a portion of them) right away. The same is true for the special events at the Food & Wine Festival, although I was told that my credit card wouldn't be charged for a month. I'm afraid I've forgotten about the Fantasmic Dinner Package info, but I seem to remember that there's a $10 no show fee associated with it.

For the other restaurants, we have had credit card info taken for NYE and New Years Day reservations, and were informed that we had to cancel 24 hours (48 hours?) in advance in order to avoid a $10 no show charge per person. As Ahutton says, other holidays are treated the same way - Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc - but I'm not sure what the complete list of holidays is.

Most of the time, however, they'll just take your information and give you a PS confirmation number, and that's it.

Have fun!

Hmmm, I just made reservations for the Luau last week and I was told that they do not charge the card unless you're a no show or don't cancel prior to 48 hrs before your scheduled time. But I think things vary depending on the time of year you go.
