DS's school had their first performance of their spring musical, "Hairspray," last night. They were all so wonderful and it was an awesome show. DS played Edna, Tracey's Mom (the part that John Travolta had in the movie). He was fantastic!!!! He really got into the part. He even told me after the show that pantyhose are comfortable!:rotfl: Here are a few photos from last night's performance.

Telling Tracey that she cannot audition for the show:

Singing in the song "Hear the Bells" (I think that's the title):

Hearing the bells! DS's girlfriend is the cute one in pink next to him.

Getting his/her groove on outside of Mr. Pinky's - this part was awesome because this is when the crowd really started going wild for him. He said that was the best part!

More grooving!

After the show with friends/castmates. The parts they played are: Motormouth, Tracey, Edna, and Tammy (one of the Nicest Kids in Town - and she's also DS's girlfriend)

Great photos!!!

He looks good in heels.. didn't look awkward at all!
Pantyhose..comfortable... tell him to go take a walk in the sunshine and high temps and get back to you on how comfortable they are! LOL

I'm glad they had a wonderful first performance... Enjoy the rest of them...

Stephanie -
Thanks for sharing! This is such a fun show - and a GREAT part! - it looks like he is truly having a ball out there!!!

Good luck with all the college decisions looming for you in the next week or so - I'm sure this is a nutty but wonderful time in your family's life...

Pam

Looks like he was having a wonderful time. Definitely a proud momma moment! Thanks for sharing the photos.

Stephanie - those are great! I love Hairspray!! He looks like he had a great time! Enjoy the rest of the shows!

Looks like he had lots of fun!

You're so lucky to be able to take pictures, we are never allowed to during the shows--a photographer comes in for final dress and takes pics then. We have to buy the CD if we want pics. Helps raise money for the drama program, but, I can't get all the shots I want.

Tell DS to break a leg for all of the shows ;) Good luck making those final college decisions.

Thanks for all the comments. DS is having a blast with this part.

Cheryl, we don't have anyone come in a photograph or videotape performances. We can take photos as long as we don't bother the audience or performers with any kind of lights (AF illuminators, flash, display screen on the back, etc.) or beeps or anything else. I turn everything off on my camera and use the viewfinder. I take hundreds of photos and most will be blurry because there is so much movement on stage, but I do get some decent ones too. I always sit in the front row too so that I don't get any heads in my way and I'm closer to the stage since I can't use flash or anything. I'd be lost without taking photos!!

Stephanie--they say it's because of copywrite issues. But, I'm sure it is because of the distraction flash causes for the performers as well as the audience. Drives me crazy that I can't take pictures because some people don't know how to turn their flash & beeps off! However, it is a nice source of income for the drama program which is completely self funded. Rachel would love to be at a school that funds the drama program so they could have some newer or more popular musicals (they are just too expensive for us to get the rights on the very limited budget we have to work with).

This was my favorite Broadway show to watch on stage. popcorn::

Your son and friends look like they did a fantastic job..and had a great time.:thumbsup2
